Olson Energy Service

Furnace was installed in 2002, with an electronic air filter. We bought the 10 year all inclusive warranty. We bought the annual check up service as well. This started at around $100 per year but escalated to $150 by 2012. The services typically went well. However, we feel they installed an undersized furnace because it never seemed to heat well. In 2012, just before the warranty ran out, at the annual service, they said both heat exchangers were rotted out and needed replacement. They did the work based on a Carrier settlement. They charged over $600 for extra labor not covered by the Carrier settlement. The installer seemed to have problems with the installation, but yet we get charged the extra labor. Also, I did not realize it at the time, but we should have not been charged at all because the work should have been done under the warranty instead of the settlement. We called for a service early this year because the furnace was making a lot of noise and vibration on start up and shut down. Now, we are just outside of the warranty and they want $1400 for a fan. They are recommending that we pay for a new furnace instead of this expense. Are you kidding me? Also both filter units in the electronic filter are malfunctioning and we were quoted about $250 each for replacement. Decided to go with just a regular filter instead of paying to restore the unit to working order. I am not sure if this unit ever did anything anyway. It was because of this new incident that I took a close look at our warranty and questioned the previous year charges. They have refunded the charges for the heat exchangers. They said they had lost the paper work. We are very disappointed in the product and the lack of support from Olson for a bad product. We were better off with our old 80% furnace that was still working. We just thought we needed an upgrade. Recommendation: If your old furnace is working well, don't upgrade to high efficiency. It may cost you more than you save for repairs due to all of the high tech parts involved in the newer furnaces.

Repairman arrived on time. He was asking if I had a manual for the fireplace. He said the fireplace would need to be replaced or it would take a considerable amount of money to repair. The technician didn't have a gas meter which is needed to accurately diagnose the situation. I spoke with Thompson Hearth and Home and they are actually certified to do fireplace repair. They informed me the fireplace could be repaired for a little more than I paid Sundance, who didn't correctly diagnose or repair anything.I am going to contact Sundance to see if I can get a partial refund for the service call.

Our 25+ year old furnace was past due for replacement. I contacted several companies for estimates and Olson Energy was our choice based on price and reputation as well as Angie's List recommendations. The installer arrived exactly on time and completed the new installation in less than four hours which included quite a bit of new duct work along with a new chimney liner. We are quite pleased with the new furnace and really appreciate the follow-up on a minor filter issue we discovered a month later.

The work was done to specifications and on time. The workers were very professional and cleaned up thoroughly. There was a squeaking noise coming through the vents when the furnace was running for a longer period of time. I called to make the report and a services call was coordinated within one day. The technician fixed the problem immediately even though I could not identify to him where the squeak was originating from. My furnace is working perfectly and efficiently. Olsen did a great job.

The crew was prompt and courteous. They accomplished all of their work effectively and efficiently. However, they didn't take quite as much care as I would have liked (e.g. they allowed the condensation/water from the connections fo their pneumatic hose to drip on my hardwood floors, they didn't do anything to protect the corners in the house from getting rubbed by the pneumatic hose as they went from room-to-room, they didn't ensure that they picked up all of the paper sheets which were used to flag the vent locations). However, when I thought they'd missed a couple of vents just after they'd left, their dispatcher sent them back immediately to finish the service - they had cleaned them but did what it took to ensure I was satisfied with no complaints.

This was my first service by Olson Energy in my new home. The technician was prompt and professional. He thoroughly explained his service actions and recommendations. Based on this routine service appointment, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to friends and family.

I scheduled a heater and duct cleaning. They came out and hour and a half early without a phone call. They performed the service and left. I happened to drop something down the intake, so I pulled up the grate a saw a giant (bigger than my hand) ugly old dust bunny. I was appalled at what I saw. I then proceeded to check all the other intakes and found the same dirty mess in all of them. I just made a call to their company asking that they redo the cleaning. I am waiting for someone to return my call. I will update Angie's List as the problem gets resolved.

Punctual estimator who came across as a professional during the estimate, though he couldn't take the time to provide an estimate over a more than reasonable period of time, despite even going to trouble to contact again and asking where the estimate was.

The repair person arrived on time, relaxed and friendly. He answered our questions knowledgeably and willingly. He worked patiently to solve an atypical problem and charged fairly for the time.

They are fabulous. I would rate them an A overall.

From the beginning, I was impressed with the great detail the company went into when informing me of my options. I selected a furnace (a great deal, according to my contractor, who then bought one for his own home through Olson's!) and they installed it, along with the two water heaters, without problem. They asked me exactly where I wanted the meter, and helped me select the best spot for the exhaust vent. All in all, a relatively painless experience.

Just found out from a different heating company who was servicing my furnace, that my furnace was manufactured in 2002. I had it installed in 2005 so it was already 3 years old. I am not happy about this because I am selling my house and an inspector will point out the manufacture date as its age. I will not use Olsen Energy again.

It went very good. I would hire them again. They were prompt and efficient.

Several years ago my furnace quit working. I hired Olson Energy to install a new furnace and also signed an annual maintenance agreement for annual cleanings and inspection. They are always prompt, professional and friendly. I have the furnace serviced yearly to keep the warranty valid as well as making sure it is operating properly. I am very pleased with the service that Olson Energy provides.

Thank you Ken from Olsen energy for getting our furnace back up and running. It turned out to be a multi-layered problem that made it trickier to diagnose but Ken got it working and the majority of what i got charged for was the parts replaced. Even though the work took a couple different visits they were fair in charging me only for work time that was necessary and I appreciated that, especially these days. I had had a terrible experience last year with a different company that charged me for every minute they possibly could including an hour each way to kent to pick up a part. I will likely sign up for Olsen's maintenance plan in the future.

Great and paid the price a competitor charged just for the drive out.

I spent about $200 on the service. I was very happy with their service. They were overscheduled. So, they were not able to make the original appointment. They called me in plenty of time and informed me. Later, they rescheduled and gave me a discount. It was really nice. Their price seemed reasonable. They were very professional. I would absolutely use them again in the future.

Not much to tell, we needed a cleaning and they did a good job.

I used Olson energy to service our furnace for years. I pay a reasonable annual fee. Between checks if there's a problem, they don't charge you for the labor. They are very professional. Their price and service is competitive with other firms. Additionally, they are punctual and prompt. I would highly recommend them.

Their price is a little bit high, but the quality of their work is good.

Had my furnace serviced on 6/11 ($133.69) for an annual service. Technician was polite, prompt, and was not rushing through the job (was onsite over an hour). I didn't use the furnace until 9.10.2011 at which time both my wife and I noticed it was CONSIDERABLY louder. Fearing something was wrong I called and asked for a technician to be dispatched to ensure it was safe to operate it. Somebody did come by that day (A for responsiveness) however the technician was there about 15 minutes, checked to see if there was water in the tank (standard, about 2 minute operation) and then looked at the furnace for 10 minutes. He said he didn't know why it was doing that but could come back and install something to mediate the flow of oil, etc. for another $180.00 I was charged $111.69 and was told I was getting a break. I wasn't happy. *** Updating **** 10.24.2011 Before I could even call to state my complaint the Service Manager's assistant called me to discuss my issue. He was polite, reasonable, and listened carefully to what I had to say. I was told that the $111.69 charge would be reversed, arranged a date / time for another technician to come by and examine the problem and was told in no uncertain terms that they wanted to keep my business. I was pleasantly surprised, shocked actually, at the rapidity of the reply, the professionalism, and the dedication to customer satisfaction. In this day and age of typically mediocre service and no recourse for unhappy customers it's refreshing to see a company dedicated to keeping good customer service alive. Based on the above transaction alone they will be first in line to do a bid for the replacement of my old oil furnace when the time comes. Now, I happy. I stated before I would update my posting with the results of the call and have done so.

I called a company that had been part of an earlier Angies List Deal because from time to time my furnace would not respond when I manually tried to raise the temperature by bumping up the thermostat. The 2 technicians from the first company were horrible to deal with. They wanted between $2000 and $8000 to fix what they identified as the problem and I refused. They would not turn my furnance back on before they left. Without any heat, I was very happy that Olson's came out the same day I called them. The technician was very thorough and he could not get the thermostat to fail. He thought a safety feature to prevent overheating in the furnace may be causing the intermittant problem. He showed me where to look for an error code if I had the problem again and said to call Olson's with the code. He did the routine furnance maintenance and charged $321. Thank heavens for companies like Olson's who provide excellent service with integrity.

This last summer, I noticed our furnace making an unusal high-pitched noise. We have an electronic air filter so we run our furnace all year long. We have a maintenance agreement and called Olson. The problem was the inducer fan. We knew the furnace was getting old and that wasn't the only problem it had. Up to this point and with Olson's help we have always been able to sqeeze a little more life out of the old thing. I opted to replace the fan. Sure enough that evening, I heard more noises, even worse. Olson showed up the very next day, quoted me a very reasonable price on a new furnace and fully refunded the cost of the fan. The day of the installation, James showed up on time and ready to go - the problem was that wasn't I ready for him. Sensing this, he suggested and quot;would you like me to come back in a half hour?and quot; He was back in exactly one half hour and finished just a couple of hours later. We found him very personable, knowledgable and very efficient.. We have been very pleased with Olson and highly recommend. We also like that it is a family business.

Showed up on time, did it right the first time, left no mess.
