Mr. TJ Wilkinson (North Coast Custom Builders) was introduced to us after we bought property on Orcas Island, WA as a "top rate" builder by our real estate agent at the local Windemere office.  He told us he was "chief foreman" at Raven Hill Construction on nearby San Juan Island for 20 years and had started his own company in 2007.  The project was bid by three builders and North Coast submitted the most competitive fixed bid.  After review by our architect Mr. Wilkinson was selected to build our new house and construction started in April of 2011.  The project was constantly behind North Coast's estimated timeline but unfortunately that wasn't the only problem.  We became aware in early February of 2012 that a number of the major sub contractors had not been paid the funds we had paid Mr. Wilkinson for their work.  When confronted, his excuse was that he had "underestimated the actual cost of building the project".  If anything that was far from the truth.  We immediately fired him, removed him from the project and hired another contractor.  It has been over two months of just paying to fix major problems with the framing of the house so that we can move forward.  Missing roof trusses, inadequate framing and walls and beams in the wrong places have been a few of the issues.  If you are considering building a new home or remodeling in the San Juan Islands I would not recommend Mr. Wilkinson (North Coast Custom Builders).  It's been a stressful and expensive experience.
