"Thank you for the excellent review! We appreciate your business and hope that you will call upon us in the future if needed."
"Thank you again for choosing Nordic Services Inc for your restoration needs. Dealing with fire damage in your home is devastating and we strive to make the restoration process as painless as possible. It was a pleasure to work with you. Nordic Services Inc."
I have had three professional painters out to give me bids on repainting the peeling doors and each one (unsolicited by me) has said that the paint is peeling off the doors because there were not properly prepped and the wrong kind of paint was used.
We paid top dollar to Nordic for its work and assumed it knew what it was doing. The painters by the way were employees of Nordic not sub-contractors!
Should have gone with Tenhulzen who does stand behind its work.
"When this customer contacted our warranty manager about a possible warranty issue, she sent us pictures of 2 doors that showed the paint was peeling in the area directly around the door handles. Our original scope of work included painting multiple doors and millwork. The 2 doors in question looked as if something had melted the paint from the door around the handle area only. After asking specific information about which doors and when this started, etc., the homeowner stated that she had used goo gone or goof off to remove grease from the doors. Due to the fact that this was not affecting all the doors and woodwork we had painted, and the fact that it had been 5 years since the work was done, we considered this wear and tear and not a warranty issue. The invoice total for the work Nordic performed was $63,000."
"This customer hired us to repair water damage in their home. We helped them take advantage of this opportunity to make some changes during the repair process. The owners chose to go back with hardwood flooring instead of carpet, and we also added crown molding that matched their mantel. The homeowners also wanted an epoxy coating on their garage floor, which we were able to provide in lieu of the carpet that had been in the garage previously. We are glad the homeowners are pleased with the finished product and we are happy that we could assist them in making their desired changes."
"Nordic Services strives to provide as accurate a time schedule as possible at the onset of each restoration project. However, when performing any damage repair, there can be many delays such as hidden additional damage, engineering, county or city inspection delays, building code update requirements, homeowner material selection delays or changes, and homeowner change requests. In this particular case, we have unfortunately had all of the above listed delays; code related issues with the foundation, required engineering and subsequent redesign by homeowners, insurance company approvals of additional work, homeowner requested layout changes after work had begun, and changes in finish selections. All these delays have resulted in a longer than normal repair timeframe. Any time our customer requests a change, we provide them with a change order outlining the costs. The homeowner must then review and sign it before work can move forward. This is intended to ensure that all parties understand exactly what is to happen and what the cost will be. We strive to make it clear to our customers how time and cost will be affected by any changes. Our desire is to provide excellent service working with all of our customers. We communicate with this customer on a weekly basis to keep them appraised of the schedule and keep the job moving toward completion."
"We appreciated the opportunity to work with you to make the desired changes during the repair process. Thank you for taking the time to post your review!"
"Thank you [removed member name]! We appreciate you taking the time to post a review. We strive to provide quality work for a fair price - glad we were able to do that for you."
"We appreciate you taking the time to post your comments about the water damage repairs we performed at your home. We are glad that you are happy with the quality of your finished restoration. Our subcontractor did make every effort to work with your schedule and selection changes. We apologize for any inconvenience you feel you experienced in working with them. We continually work with our subcontractors to achieve quality results in a timely manner. Thank you again for letting us know you are pleased with our work."
"Thank you for taking the time to share your comments - we appreciated the opportunity to help put your house back together!"
If Nordic said they would do something on a specific date, it got done on that date. If there was a glitch for some reason, they called to explain and give a new date.
The contracting work was completed carefully and completely.
At this time, the house looks like it did prior to the fire, except better: lighter, cleaner, brighter. My parents are in their eighties. It is very nice to know they could deal directly with this company and wouldn't get taken advantage of and would be dealt with honestly. And when they moved back into their house, it was their home, not another new living situation.
"Thank you for taking the time to post your comments. We really appreciated the opportunity to help your mom rebuild after such a devastating fire."
"Our customer contacted us to request investigative services to confirm the location and cause of periodic water intrusion. They suspected a problem with their windows, but wanted to confirm before replacing them. The initial guess for time to investigate and perform repairs was 2.5 days. This was merely a guess as we did not know for sure what we would be dealing with. After opening up the area around the windows we discovered that both the windows and the flashing had been improperly installed. Rot resulting from the leaks created by the poor window installation was discovered on the sheathing under the siding. Two of the windows needed to have glass replaced. They were both a custom size and needed to be special ordered. In the end, in addition to the investigative work, we replaced flashing, exterior window trim, siding, sheathing, windows, some interior millwork, windowsills, and paint. Our carpenter kept our customer informed of what he was uncovering and what corrective measures were needed throughout the restoration. Each step was preapproved by our customer. Progress was controlled because our customer would allow repairs to occur only when he was on site. His ability to be present was limited by his own work schedule. As a result our scheduling was intermittent and the time that could be spent working during each visit was restricted. Reasonable access, which includes an adequate amount of time for work to progress during each appointment, is essential for time management and production. Our carpenter did spend 64 hours on the job, however our customer was only billed for 48 of those hours which we feel was a very fair compromise."
Aaron Meadows came to view scope of the work and had an estimate to me in 2 days.
The work involved removing lath and plaster, re-nailing lath after inspection, wallboarding, mudding, priming and painting finish coat to ceiling. Jim Tallman, Trent Tallman and Arne Omli masked off the walls and floors with plastic sheets, cleaned up completely and got the job done in two weeks.
Jim communicated very well, always answering his phone and arrived on time.
"Thank you for taking the time to post your comments. We really appreciated the opportunity to take care of your repairs!"
Getting the electrical outlets finished and activated was like pulling teeth. And now several of my own screw drivers seem to be missing. My Error: Should have requested the insurance company send me the check and then paid Nordic from my own pocket. They haven't asked us to sign-off on the contract as the work having been completed. No work completion inspection has been done yet. Still have a knockout in the kitchen wall. Benefits of Nordic: Excellent planning & estimating service. Put me in contact with an excellent floor & tiling group (Carpet One and Conrad Matlock). They came back and were able to level the tub to the framework after-the-fact.
"This customer signed a contract for Nordic to perform approximately $12,000 worth of repairs. As the repairs moved forward, they decided to change the scope of work, deviating greatly from the original agreement, performing approximately 1/3 of the contracted work. Frequently the homeowner’s work was done without scheduling through Nordic, therefore disrupting the overall progress. The mentioned tub framing revision was needed as a direct result of the homeowner hiring a plumber on their own and changing the layout of the fixtures. Nordic then had to revise the framing to meet the homeowner’s plumbing change. The customer suggests that Nordic was paid by the insurance company before any of the work was done. In fact Nordic did not receive any payment until well after all work was completed and the homeowners had indicated to the insurance company that they were fully satisfied with all repairs including the mentioned ‘knockout’ in the kitchen. Our contract states that Nordic Services is to perform all of the estimated work. We have found that work done by customers concurrently with our contracted repairs can cause confusion and delays in the project since more than one party is planning and scheduling work. Nordic Services Inc. endeavors to complete all work consistent with a policy of quality workmanship. However, when homeowners hire their own subcontractors or perform a portion of the contracted repairs themselves, Nordic has no control over the quality of workmanship or materials. This may affect, or in some cases, nullify the warranty. We hope that all of our customers will rely on us and our pre-approved subcontractors to provide them with a well-executed, quality restoration."
April replacement hardwood installed; drywall replaced & window and door trim replaced. New granite installed and then cabinets and appliances replaced by end of June. July deck replacement and painting done as well as all finish painting.
Tyler our main carpenter was awesome, friendly and very knowledgeable. All workers were pleasant answering all our questions. They cleaned up at end of each day. Were prompt returning phone calls. Flooring, plumbing subcontractors excellent. End product was fabulous.
Nordic was punctual and came out quickly to survey the damage and provide a detailed estimate to myself and my insurance company, kudos. After agreeing to the estimate provided I was put in touch with my project lead. We agreed that the most pressing issue was to restore power to my home.
Nordic came out and gutted my family room in about 2 days, great! We had met with the electrician and determined the scope and extent of the work. Nordic tore out the old panel, removed the framing that was damaged, installed new framing in the damaged areas and coated the existing with a sealer. So far so good, but still no electrical service. We discussed getting at least temporary power up. This was accomplished a couple of weeks later, reason for the delay was unknown. Still more time passed and no regular power was installed. To restore power would take the electrician 1 to 2 days. Being over 3 weeks into the job and 6 weeks total without power I was kind of expecting to have electrical service restored to my home.
Mind you, I was put up in a hotel by my insurance, I had renters in my mother in law, with no power and no insurance, patiently waiting for electrical service. I had also discussed with Nordic adding to my scope of work installation of recessed lighting in the room to be done. I agreed to pay out of pocket for this, and Nordic said I could arrange with the electrician so I wouldn't pay Nordic's fee for the extra work, Great, sounds agreeable to me.
Well come to find out , Nordic didn't get all of the permits it needed, they needed a couple , one for building and one for electrical, or something to that effect. So, we couldn't proceed with the electrical work because the proper permit was not obtained and this set the job back 2 weeks. Very frustrating! Nordic gets it fee for overseeing the project and managing it's sub contractors and they messed up the permits delaying the most pressing part of my project!!! Epic fail. To make matters worse, no one took responsibility for the mess up. My project manager blamed the estimator, and the estimator was perplexed and was at a loss for explanation. I proceeded to call the owner of Nordic, he was of little help, conveying to me that he was "on vacation". Sorry to bother you , I have no power!!! He said he would look into it. Never got a follow up call back from the owner of the company!
Ok, finally permits are obtained, I meet with the electrician and my project manager on a Thursday, they arranged for electrical to be worked on for Monday, maybe even get started tomorrow for Friday. Weekend goes by, Monday comes and no electrician. Tuesday comes and no electrician. Wednesday comes and no electrician. I call the electrician directly on wednesday, rather irate. He informs me that he is waiting for approval from Nordic for the extra electrical work I requested. Furious at this point, I told him that Nordic already agreed with me to deal directly with him for the extra work and that the pressing issue was RESTORING POWER!!!! This was the agreed upon most important focus of the project with my project manager in the beginning of the job. It was his job to keep this the focus of the job. Major fail again by the project lead, this is what Nordic gets paid for!
Finally power is restored over a month after Nordic was approved to do the work. Sheet rock work was held up, because Nordic sealed some of the framing but not all of it, so I waited for that. Then sheet rock is done. Sub was on time, worked full days the days they were scheduled, Great! I will mention that all the subs were very courteous and professional as far as being accommodating to my schedule and working when they were there. The only complaint I have about the sheetrock work, was that they could have saved a lot of mess and extra labor at the end of the job by taping off the floor with plastic. There was mud everywhere on the floor from the texturing and it cost another day later when my project lead had to come back and clean up after them. The extra hour to put plastic down would have kept the job site cleaner and saved time later. Another part of Nordic's responsibility , overseeing their subs!
Fast forward to the end of the job, this took 3 months. Sheetrock and paint, carpet , vinyl, electrical all done. Come to find out now that Nordic didn't call the city inspector when they were supposed to, now they have to open up the wall so he can inspect and sign off on it, and then repair. Epic Fail AGAIN!. A few more delays, no big deal, I expect some with a project this size. Family room came out great, there were some items overlooked, I gave Nordic a punch list they knocked out all of my concerns.
Very disappointed in the areas that were repainted. My office in particular and the top of my stair well that were particularly bad with smoke odor. Nordic is a restoration company. Their painters painted right over smoke damage and soot. Epic Fail. I will give you the protocol for fire restoration, Scrub the surface, Prime and Seal the Surface, and Paint. They left out the 2 most important steps, remove the soot and prime and seal. Needless to say my office smelled like smoke again 2 weeks after they left. They offer a guarantee for a year, I know they would honor it if I asked them, but I am done with Nordic. I paid them and primed and painted my office myself, because I really don't want them back out.
"The scope of repair on this home required more than an ‘over the counter’ permit process due to the type of fire which originated in the outdated electrical panel, destroying power to the entire structure. Many entities were involved including the insurance company, the power company, the city building department, and several subcontractors. After reviewing our job notes we see that Nordic applied for the building and electrical permits in a timely manner. Due in part to the age of the home, several requirements had to be met including a drawing of the entire structure, which was difficult to produce due to lack of access to tenant occupied space. Additionally there were several mandatory code upgrades because of the current, stricter building codes. Several separate building and electrical inspections were required, halting job progress each time. Nordic does not control the power company or the city permitting process. Power was restored to the home as quickly as possible. The customer does not mention displeasure with the quality of work except for the paint in his office. In his complaint he suggests that Nordic is unaware of fire repair protocols; however Nordic is very aware of protocol and has successfully restored thousands of homes to a condition surpassing their pre-fire state. At the conclusion of repairs the homeowner signed a ‘Certificate of Completion’ which stated that he was satisfied with the work. If he subsequently decided he was unhappy with any part of the work we wish he would have given us the opportunity to address any problems. He also implies that our warranty process is inadequate. Nordic rarely has warranty requests, but when we do, we investigate and take any necessary corrective measures. We believe our customer should not have commented on a service he has chosen not to utilize. The homeowner was understandably frustrated with the obstacles encountered during the repair process. According to our job notes work proceeded at a steady pace. The homeowner was kept apprised of the schedule and holdups with the permitting process. Nordic Services strives to complete all work in a timely manner consistent with quality workmanship. Perhaps our true ‘epic failure’ was that we did not ensure that our customer completely understood all the complexities of the job."
They replaced a sliding glass door and repaired damage that was discovered in the process. They repaired some siding and paint. Tyler came on to our project and he was the best thing that happened during our experience with Nordic. He was professional, personable and he took responsibility for the project. Also Gordon was great to work with in the early stages of the project. So in short: the start of the project was good and the wrap up was good. The middle of the project was troublesome. In retrospect we wish we would have been more involved in the day to day process..
"In the process of replacing the damaged sliding door it was observed that a window over the door had slid in its frame. The customer was upset thinking that Nordic Services had disturbed the window during our work. However, after investigation, it was discovered that the cause was an improper repair done in the past before Nordic was ever on site. Nordic was able to design a repair which prevented the customer from having to replace the window, thereby saving them money. We do not understand why there is a complaint filed other than that the customer felt that Nordic should repair the window for free."
They were friendly and efficient and made the ceiling look back to normal.
