MT VIEW HARDWOOD

When I went on Angie's List, I found that this company has a bad rating. I have not had this experience, but I know why people have. The owner is a bit mentally delayed. The work, however, was done exactly how I wanted it to be. He brought some extra things to my attention as well. He didn't do the work himself; he had the crew. They came in, they got the work done, and they were out. There was no laziness at all. It wasn't a big job, but he did a really good job, just refinishing the hardwood floors of a few rooms. I had had a bad hardwood company work for me in the past.

They sent out two workers who spoke absolutely NO English. We tried to explain about the water damage in the kitchen, but they did not understand it at all. The owner did not show up. The workers apparently pulled the good floor in the bathroom, and left the water soaked subfloor in the kitchen. At first it looked good, but within weeks the kitchen floor began to buckle. The owner would not return phone calls. We sent him a certified letter to his PO Box. He did not pickup the certified letter, and it was returned to us by the post office. DO NOT USE THIS MAN (KEN BROWN) UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. We came VERY close to suing him in small claims, but in the end it wasn't worth the time.

They results of the work were just OK, after two months on what they had said would be a two week job. The first time they did the work, sanding and preparing the floors, they stained the wood the wrong color. They did return to re-sand and re-stain the floors, but I am still not seeing the color I had requested. They are smooth and the work itself was good, I just wish they had been able to follow through with the color issue and the time frame promised verbally to me, because of these issues I will not be using them again.

Good sales pitch and competitive quote. After the first coat, it takes forever to get them back to do the second and third coats. Does not return phone calls. Uses answering service. Impossible to get hold of. At the end, charged me $1000 over the original quote saying that he had to sand scratches left by other trades. In a new construction, this is normal and I expect quote to have included that - as other companies would have. Overall a good job but not worth the frustration.

Ken and his team were very thorough during the process and offered a great value. He gave the most detailed quote even looking under carpets to see if additional fir could be exposed. His crew got the job done on time and with limited dust or other inconveniences. The final quality was acceptable, but I was a bit disappointed that the new boards did not match the older floors (Ken claimed they would over time). A few weeks later, one of the repairs began to fail - Ken basically said that I had signed off on the work and then didn't return any more calls. Overall, it was good value, but disappointing follow up.

VARY DIFFICULT TO WORK WITH. CREW DID NOT SPEAK ENGLISH AND OWNER DID NOT REGULARLY VISIT SITE. FLOORS LOOK VERY GOOD, BUT WORK PROMISED WAS NEVER COMPLETED. DURING MY LAST PHONE CALL TO FIND OUT WHEN THE WORK MIGHT BE FINISHED THE OWNER HUNG UP ON ME. CREW 'LOST' KEYS TO MY HOME AND TOOK TWO WEEKS TO FIND THEM.
