Thank you for taking the time to visit my web site and to learn more about me and my company!
I began pounding nails as a teenager in the mid-1980s with my uncle, an accomplished and well-respected builder. Through this experience, I was given the opportunity of working on a vast array of projects from new construction to remodels, from simple jobs to multi-million dollar homes. It was here where my passion and love of the carpentry and construction industry was born.
The knowledge and experience I gained from working with my uncle taught me a great deal about the principles of quality craftsmanship and pride of workmanship. It is these same values I carry with me today and it is the foundation on which I have built my company.
I formed Mountains West Construction in 2004 out of my desire to utilize my ideas and creativity to build quality products. My greatest joy comes from being able to build something from the ground up and watching it develop before my eyes. My sense of accomplishment comes from seeing true satisfaction on the faces of my clients.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with a variety of different clients from various backgrounds. I have a proven track record of listening to my clients needs and desires, offering solutions and delivering quality results. When I'm on the job, I strive to keep the jobsite neat and clean, and to minimize any impact to my clients as much as possible.
Mountains West Construction spent about 6 days total at my house. The final result was beautiful and of excellent quality. I paid $7400 to Mountains West Construction -- about $800 of which was additional work not planned for in the original contract. I spent $3900 for materials that were not part of the contract, including 21 gallons of very expensive stain (Penofin Red Label, $42 per gallon). The project went as follows: Per our contract, I purchased and stained all wood for the fence and trellis prior to installation. I purchased dirt and had it delivered. Randy, owner of Mountains West Construction, and one assistant removed the old fence, added new dirt and used a compacting machine to level the area prior to installing the new fence -- I also helped move dirt to the area. Randy and his assistant then set the fence posts in concrete. Randy performed all of the remaining work without an assistant. Per my request, after the concrete dried, Randy added more concrete to form a dome at the base of each post in order to prevent water from collecting on the surface. After it dried, he sawed off excess concrete material. I dug a small trench along the fence line for a gravel bed. Randy brought a large table saw and a pressure nail gun. Randy then built the fence. All fasteners were stainless steel, per my request. Randy then built the trellis topper. This included cutting the preassembled trellis panels in half and building custom framing and trim. There was a lot of material left over, so Randy suggested adding some trim pieces to the posts. I agreed, so he did it. I submitted a design for the arbor, he reviewed it and we made a couple of changes. Randy ordered the wood for the arbor and then set it out to dry in his workshop. Randy cut all of the arbor pieces to very exacting detail per the design, and then he delivered them to me for staining. After I completed the staining, Randy built the arbor. I dumped gravel into the trench under the fence.
Description of Work: Removed old wood fence, including post concrete. Leveled and compacted dirt in preparation for installing a new fence. Built a solid fence that is 72' long and 6' high, with 6" wide fence boards and three support runners per 8' section. Used post-on-pipe material -- metal pipe, embedded into bottom of wood posts, is set in concrete. Post height ranged from 8' to 10'. Built trellis topper for entire length of fence that is 2 feet tall. Built arbor on top of 32' section of fence.

We used them a couple of times. He did a great job and did what he was supposed to do. He cleaned up and did a fine job. He doesn't do shoddy work. I was very satisfied. I trust them to do a good job. He is also reasonably priced.
Description of Work: We used Mountains West Construction to replace the porch, deck, stairs and a little patio. Then I used him again to fix a bathroom that another contractor had really screwed up.

In short, while I received a reasonably detailed bid, it ended up being $10K over the competition for essentially the same deck. The justification for the increase was "better quality decking" but when I inspected that brand versus the brand we eventually used with another contractor, I couldn't see the difference. Perhaps this company's more competitive with other jobs, but the bid being $10K higher than the competition seemed to indicate a disinterest in taking the job.
Description of Work: Obtained a bid on a deck replacement.

It looks perfect because of his attention to detail; everything just looks amazing. I was nervous at first because I’ve never used a contractor but he gave us a bid that was comparable to the other quotes we got. The price ended up being exactly what he quoted us. He did all of the work himself and he didn’t use anyone else. We will use him again and we have him giving us some estimate for some other stuff around the house.

I didn't like or dislike the quote, it was just a middle of the road quote. I found a lower bid from a company that was closer to me and I thought it would be easier to track them down if I needed to. They did show up on time and give me a quote on the spot. If he was outstanding in any of the categories I would have given him an A, but I don't remember him being outstanding. I would get another bid from them if I had a need in the future.

The project went great. Because of my schedule, Randy respects my request to come no earlier than 10:00 am. He always tells us if something just ain't right, and the quality of work is very professional. We highly recommend Randy at Mountains West Construction, and have more projects for him in the future.
Description of Work: We had a small water leak in the living room ceiling. Strangely, we could not see where it was leaking in the bedroom directly above the living room. We called Randy that day. It was a Saturday and I was just going to leave him a message. He answered the phone and arranged to swing by later that day. He couldn't find the leak right away either. We made an appointment for him to start work that upcoming week. Because the upstairs is a finished attic, Randy had to cut a hole in the wall of an upstairs bedroom to get to a confined space. He found a number of buckets left there from the previous owner, one of which tipped over. Can you believe that?! Anyway we got some roofers to fix the roof. When they finished, Randy had to cut away a portion of the livinging room ceiling and fit a piece of dry wall over the hole and mud that area. He then disposed of all the junk and rotten insulation in the previously walled-off attic. He blew in some insulation and cleaned up the mess. He nicely framed out the little door he cut through the wall in order to access that part of the attic. Randy also fixed my bedroom door which would not shut closed. I'm not exactly sure how he did it but it had to do with moving the moulding around. It closes now, and I'm pleased.

Great. I found him on Angie's List and we could not be more pleased! His subs were great too. We will call him again.
Description of Work: Randy is GREAT. He repaired a mudsile (?), put a new shower in our master and brought our garage up to date (new side door, garage door, framing and storage).
The job was very complicated due to an elaborate duct system, and low ceilings in the main basement area. Randy applied a lot of creativity and care with his design. He was very precise and careful, considering the existing design of the house and suggesting panel doors to hold the theme of the upstaris. He was also aware of using the correct hardware, and quality doors and trim. He saved us money by modifying seven doors to fit our particular space. This was very precise work and he did a wonderful job. His carpentry is excellent and the finished product is very impressive. He installed our new microwave and stove, needing to modify our original kitchen cabinet and remove and replace a piece of trim which was very hard to find. He was able to build the trim himself. He took great care with detail and took great pride in his work. We are very happy with the quality of his work and would highly recommend him for any job. He is very professional and kept us informed of the job status throughout the process.
Description of Work: Remodeled basement in our 1934 Tudor. This involved framing and sheetrock for complicated duct work on ceiling, walls, framing large storage room, closet, laundry room, installation of seven doors, all which needed to be modified, removed any concrete on floor, drywalled main basement area, installed door casing for garage door, laundry room and storage area, installed new shelving in closet and storage area, installed new door knobs. In the kitchen he installed micro wave oven and modified a kitchen cabinet, intalled new stove, removed ceiling fan in kitchen and repaired celing,

When Randy removed the old deck he found dry rot in the rim joists. He gave us some options how to address the problem. Unfortunately for Randy, the fix required him to work in the crawlspace. The deck looks great and feels very sturdy. He cleaned up all the debris and left the area neat and clean. We are very happy with the quality of Randy's work and will hire him again.

Randy is very courteous and professional. He takes great pride in his work and it shows on the extra detail he put into installing the trim. The house and kitchen now look amazing thanks to Randy s craftsmanship and ability to come up with solutions to each of the minor issues that came up along the way. Randy was in our home for several days, he was very cognizant of my wife and small children, we had no issues with him working in our home. We highly recommend Randy, we will recommend him to family and friends.

Randy communicated at each turn of the deck re-furbish, did all work in a timely manner. Told me how to re-finish part of the old railing that needed to stay because it was a support beam. The entire project took about 2 weeks to complete and we are very happy with the job.

Everything went smoothly. He had provided gates and fences for me on a prior job, so I knew he'd be efficient about his work.
Description of Work: Randy built a 12 x 16' cedar deck that has made a previously hard-to-maintain lawn area more accessible for outdoor use. He used pressure treated materials, and also made a hatch cover for the crawl space to access the area under the house.
Randy was amazing! He showed up on time when he said he would show up, he worked quickly and without interruption. He was helpful, completely trustworthy, a perfectionist regarding his craft (but not to the point of making a project more expensive), professional, and courteous. I have 2 small children and had no qualms about having Randy in my home (he was referred by a friend who assured me, before I hired him, of his trustworthiness and professionalism). He even called to see how my hardwood floor installation turned out. That kind of commitment is rarely seen in the construction world (I have been in charge of many home improvement projects for over 9 years, so I have vast experience with subcontractors). I would highly recommend Randy Parker and his company without hesitation. Your job will be done to your specification, in the time he estimates and to your satisfaction.
Description of Work: Randy Parker installed: 8 doors; crown and base molding; door and window casings; windowsills, vinyl flooring for pantry; melamine shelving system for new pantry, linen closet and 2 bedroom closets, and he created an access panel to a crawl space. With the installation of the molding and casings, he made everything paint ready, so all nail holes were filled and sanded, and everything as perfectly caulked. In addition, while on site, he provided invaluable input and suggestions about the rest of our project that he was not working on but had experience in. He also provided referrals to other subs in the areas that he was not experienced in, such as hardwood flooring and tiling.

I searched Angie's List for companies located in my area; Randy Parker had good reviews and was within 10 miles. I e-mailed, he called and made appointment to come and look at the work to be done. He was responsive and prompt, made a tentative estimate at the site. Within a day he had e-mailed me his estimate and made arrangements to begin work. He also removed a tree that was encroaching on the fence area and hauled the debris away. The gates and fence are very sturdy and attractive.
Description of Work: Replaced 35-year-old chain link fence and gates with cedar gates and fence.
Randy was responsible for transforming our 70's era bathroom (gold speckled counter tops and floors, pink toilet and tub), into a bathroom that look more modern and updated. We challenged him to complete it while my wife and I were on our honeymoon. Our home only had one shower, so we hoped to not be without it for long. Needless to say, Randy completed most of the remodel by the time we came back. We were only without a fully functioning bathroom for one day. The project was done quickly, but the quality of work did not drop off. Mr. Parker made sure that everything we requested was completed and done to our level of satisfaction. We entrusted Mr. Parker with overseeing his sub-contractors and taking care of the job site while we were out of town. Upon our return we had a new great looking and functioning bathroom.
Description of Work: Mountains West Construction gutted and remodeled our bathroom. Mr. Parker removed all the old flooring, shower tiles, cabinets, and fixtures. He then installed all the new fixtures, cabinets, and lighting. The heating and ventilation fan were also updated. The existing bathroom mirror that was still in good condition was kept, and fitted with a custom frame made by Mr. Parker to enhance it's appearance. The plumbing was updated to accommodate two sinks. A new sliding shower door, granite counter top and back splash, were also installed. Mr. Parker was also tasked with matching all new molding to the existing window and door frames, and painting the bathroom.

First of all, Randy is one of the most dependable contractors I've ever worked with. He is an excellent communicator and if there are any unforeseen issues, he is the first to let you know. I always knew when to expect him at my home and he showed up when he said he was going to. How refreshing. I had a few custom details that we reviewed before the installation began, and he executed with professionalism. I would highly recommend Randy for your next project!
Description of Work: Randy demolished my 1000sqft house full of old flooring, both carpet and damaged wood veneers from the 60's. He installed new solid hardwoods throughout, and added quarter round to my existing base moldings. He took great care in making sure transitions to bathroom and newly carpeted bedrooms was successful.

I originally sat down with the owner Randy Parker and planned the scope of work to be done. Much of the work that was agreed upon had to be altered throughout the project due to unforeseen construction issues. Randy Parker consistently communicated with me during every phase of construction, if the original plan could not be executed he would tell me first and give me other options. Sometimes certain details were added that made the construction/remodel even better than expected. Because of my great experience, I will continue to use Mountains West Construction and highly recommend this company for all construction/remodeling needs.
Description of Work: Mountains West Construction erected and finished a 21ft x 23ft detached garage, they also installed kitchen cabinets and customized an island with drawers and storage. Both projects required extensive trim and millwork all customized.

I was referred to Mountains West Construction by a friend who recently had a fence and gate built by Mr. Parker, so I gave him a call to get an estimate. From the start he was professional, and courteous. I gave him a quick update on what we wanted to have built and asked if he would be interested in providing an estimate. He set up a time to meet and showed up as promised on time! The estimate he provided was comparable to the 4 other contractors that priced out our project. What won us over was Randy's ability to listen to what we wanted done. Though it was a small project, he took the time to provide us with options and ideas while keeping our budget in mind. The fence was done in less then two days. We were amazed at how fast the fence went up and how great it looked. Our neighbors were also impressed, some asked for Randy's info for future projects on their own homes.
Description of Work: We contracted Mountain's West Construction to remove an old rotting fence, and build a 6' tall 55' long cedar fence to replace it.

I am so pleased with my fence. I found Randy to be very reliable and dependable -- it was raining on the first day of the job yet he showed up anyway as scheduled. He worked very quickly to get all the panels up so my dog didn't have to be couped up in the house for too long. Randy is very customer service-oriented and he did exactly what I wanted and more. He customized the sections with the privacy panels so it looks as if they were made that way and he custom-built a beautiful new gate that turned out beyond my expectations. He also applied preservative on all the cedar. He has superb attention to detail and obviously takes great pride in his work. After the bad experience I had with the roofer and in difficulty finding reliable help on other projects around my house, Randy is like a breath of fresh air.
Description of Work: I had approximately 100' of fence that was falling down and in dire need of replacing. I needed the old fence torn down and hauled away. I purchased cedar panels from a home improvement store that need to be installed on 4x4 posts along with an extended privacy panel and a new gate which I had a lot of trouble finding. When Randy came to bid on my project, I had very detailed specifications about what I wanted and he added some great suggestions to improve the overall project. I was very nervous about hiring someone I knew nothing about because I had a very bad recent experience with a roofer so Randy gladly provided me with references. As it turned out I knew one of the parties he does work for on a regular basis. All of the references I called checked out great. I hired him to do my fence and now he will be doing additional work inside my home and he is providing me with estimates for a new deck next spring.
