MOUNTAINS WEST CONSTRUCTION

About us

Thank you for taking the time to visit my web site and to learn more about me and my company! I began pounding nails as a teenager in the mid-1980s with my uncle, an accomplished and well-respected builder. Through this experience, I was given the opportunity of working on a vast array of projects from new construction to remodels, from simple jobs to multi-million dollar homes. It was here where my passion and love of the carpentry and construction industry was born. The knowledge and experience I gained from working with my uncle taught me a great deal about the principles of quality craftsmanship and pride of workmanship. It is these same values I carry with me today and it is the foundation on which I have built my company. I formed Mountains West Construction in 2004 out of my desire to utilize my ideas and creativity to build quality products. My greatest joy comes from being able to build something from the ground up and watching it develop before my eyes. My sense of accomplishment comes from seeing true satisfaction on the faces of my clients. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with a variety of different clients from various backgrounds. I have a proven track record of listening to my clients needs and desires, offering solutions and delivering quality results. When I'm on the job, I strive to keep the jobsite neat and clean, and to minimize any impact to my clients as much as possible.

We needed our deck's boards and stairs replaced. The job got delayed for a while due to COVID but Randy stayed in touch via email the whole time, and it was completely worth the wait. The new deck surface (we got composite to withstand the weather) looks amazing, the stairs + stringers are sturdier than ever, and the gate matches the deck railing perfectly and works so smoothly. The project was done with no issues in the timeframe he gave us and at the estimated cost, and he left the whole area underneath the deck itself cleaner and neater than it had been before he came! We'll probably not be needing work on it for years, but I will definitely be calling again if/when we do!!

The project went extremely well. My rotting back deck was failing down to the support beams. When Randy did the demo we learned the wall of the house had not been properly protected. He installed a protective layer to the house along with new headers and flashing. He poured new footings for the support beams, as well as created retaining walls where necessary to contain the slope. He installed new joists and composite deck boards complete with hidden screw heads. His professional expertise of decking, footings, joists and beams not to mention his +20 years' experience with decks on slopes was invaluable. Laying the base foundation is critical to the success of the integrity of this deck, I was especially impressed with his knowledge and expertise of foundation work on slopes. I would highly recommend Randy and Mountains West Construction. As a side note, I love my custom BBQ cabinet he built specifically for the space I had available for the grill. I appreciated his collaborative approach to creating the grilling space, making sure I got the result I was looking for. Overall a great deck space to hang out and grill.

All phases of the deck(s) are now complete and I couldn't be happier with the results. The first thing I'd like to mention is that two other bids I received were 'no-bid', and another one was $10K higher than the MWC bid. MWC / Randy stepped up and got it done. This third phase of the project was a complicated one. A 22' long , second story support beam replacement, with additional 4" x 10" support posts for the cantilevered corners of a second story concrete and slate deck. Randy managed to raise it without cracking it, remove the rotting beam and replace it with a new one, now resting on the new support posts. The new deck is safer, better looking and will last another 50+ years. Leveling the 2nd story deck of a +50 yr old home is a challenge in itself and after taking the time to discuss options and compromises with me, Randy took the time to get it as level as possible still planning for rain-runoff. Overall, the smallest details are what made all the difference; the added safety of additional structural support, the overall style of the railings matching the style of the house even better than the original railing, the perfectly mitered corners, the side fasteners for the deck boards (to prevent water pooling in the future around top-set floor board screws), to filling the railing nail holes prior to painting contribute to a beautiful finished product. The decks look even better than originally anticipated. Yes, I would highly recommend Randy Parker of Mountains West Construction, and yes, I will be hiring him again.

Randy Parker of Mountains West Construction earned every ounce of the 5 star / A+ rating. My project was a complicated design/build deck replacement including unexpected dry-rot. He presented a bid for the scope of the project, and prepared me for contingencies based on what his 15+ years experience told him to expect. He made a point to communicate with me during every step of the project, made appropriate changes as unknown complications (the dry rot was invasive) presented themselves and went out of his way to construct it right rather than the way it was done by the original builder. I can't recommend him highly enough. As of today, we have completed 2 phases of a 3 phase deck project. I am pleased with his quality workmanship and the added curb appeal of his suggestions. He showed up on time, kept me apprised of his schedule, and consistently did what he said he would do. I've already got my 2019 project list on his radar!

It was painless. I met with the neighbors so they were aware of the fence project. Randy got the old fence removed in short order (not an easy job) and the new fence installed without any problems. Had to work around weather conditions but the job didn't drag on. Neighbors were impressed and peace was restored.

Randy was extremely professional and responsive. We knew the type of fence and described to Randy what we wanted but did not have any plans or specs. He built a beautiful fence and made great recommendations to improve it. He was professional, courteous, and left our yard in great condition. We would hire him again.

We had previously obtained a quote for work in our last home from the owner, Randy Parker/Mountains West Construction. While we were impressed w/his responsiveness and quote, we had severe time constraints and had to go w/another contractor. We didn't hesitate to contact Randy for work on our current residence. He responded quickly, coming out to give a quote.
Randy was patient while we considered all our options and gave us revised quotes in a timely manner as we changed/added/subtracted
things we wanted considered. He referred us to a company in Tacoma, Classic Marble Interiors, for the materials used in the shower pan and surround as well as the countertops and sinks. This is a company we would not have found on our own, and they offered a product much better suited to our tastes and needs than we would have chosen if left to our own devices.
Randy was always on time, professional, and pleasant. He was meticulous in his cleanup. Every day he gave a synopsis of work done, work remaining and anticipated time lines. We had a kitchen floor installed while he was doing his work and he was kind enough to assist us w/disconnection and hookup of our gas oven and fridge icemaker.
I would not hesitate to hire him for future work or to refer him to others.

I thought they were great; they responded very quickly after I left the initial message with them. They worked on December 26th because we got broken into on Christmas day, so they were very accommodating with our schedule, and the work was all done very well.

We found Mountains West Construction on Angie"s List and called Randy, the owner. He came to our house and discussed what he proposed to do to fix the downed fence. We were given an estimate and a proposed schedule. He was able to use some existing boards that were not damaged to help keep our costs down. We found the estimate to be reasonable and arranged the time for him to come. He removed the fence and set the posts on a Friday and came back on Monday to complete the job. He worked alone did a great job. He's a quiet guy who sticks to the task and is highly skilled. The job was completed within the time of the estimate and looks great. We appreciated his workmanship and attention to details.

We had a great experience with Randy. He had to push the date back a few days from his original estimate but he knew when we needed to have the project done and he finished on time. His estimate was essentially what he quoted on the initial bid with an additiion for dump fees, which was reasonable. He was easy to work with and we would definitely use him again and probably will.

Randy was punctual and knowledgeable. He thoroughly reviewed what needed to be done and we discussed possible options to address our concerns with our floor. He came over 2 days and showed us what he found, and was able to explain why our floor wasn't as firm as we thought it should be. He made quality repairs that will permanently correct the problems found. He was efficient and came ready to get job done. Randy is great to work with, and easy-going. We'll definitely call on him again.

He was good about keeping the work zone orderly though I thought more could have been done to keep the dust factor down from the mudding and sanding process. He was responsive to calls and emails though a little too relaxed with punctuality at the job site. Easy to talk to and I feel, reliable, too. Considering the job called for a smooth finish, I think he could have benifited from bringing in a spot light to check the surfaces for imperfections. I needed one to paint the surfaces and ended up discovering some non-smooth areas. In his defense, he did say to call him back if I found areas to fix but I did not want anymore dust, so I spot-filled little spots as I went along painting. Not a big deal though but something I noticed.

I spent around $400. Only one guy comes to work. He is a quiet guy, but very professional. The latches on one of the previous gates had come off, and he replaced that without charge. He is very reliable. He changed few parts in one of the gates without any charge.

Mountains West Construction spent about 6 days total at my house. The final result was beautiful and of excellent quality. I paid $7400 to Mountains West Construction -- about $800 of which was additional work not planned for in the original contract. I spent $3900 for materials that were not part of the contract, including 21 gallons of very expensive stain (Penofin Red Label, $42 per gallon). The project went as follows: Per our contract, I purchased and stained all wood for the fence and trellis prior to installation. I purchased dirt and had it delivered. Randy, owner of Mountains West Construction, and one assistant removed the old fence, added new dirt and used a compacting machine to level the area prior to installing the new fence -- I also helped move dirt to the area. Randy and his assistant then set the fence posts in concrete. Randy performed all of the remaining work without an assistant. Per my request, after the concrete dried, Randy added more concrete to form a dome at the base of each post in order to prevent water from collecting on the surface. After it dried, he sawed off excess concrete material. I dug a small trench along the fence line for a gravel bed. Randy brought a large table saw and a pressure nail gun. Randy then built the fence. All fasteners were stainless steel, per my request. Randy then built the trellis topper. This included cutting the preassembled trellis panels in half and building custom framing and trim. There was a lot of material left over, so Randy suggested adding some trim pieces to the posts. I agreed, so he did it. I submitted a design for the arbor, he reviewed it and we made a couple of changes. Randy ordered the wood for the arbor and then set it out to dry in his workshop. Randy cut all of the arbor pieces to very exacting detail per the design, and then he delivered them to me for staining. After I completed the staining, Randy built the arbor. I dumped gravel into the trench under the fence.

It looks perfect because of his attention to detail; everything just looks amazing. I was nervous at first because I’ve never used a contractor but he gave us a bid that was comparable to the other quotes we got. The price ended up being exactly what he quoted us. He did all of the work himself and he didn’t use anyone else. We will use him again and we have him giving us some estimate for some other stuff around the house.

The project went great. Because of my schedule, Randy respects my request to come no earlier than 10:00 am. Excellent workmanship! He also charged a reasonable rate, as his bid was significantly lower than the next closest competitor. I would not hesitate to utilize his services again in the future!
