first the estimators came out and evaluated the structure of the deck. As we had already thought it needed some work to get it back to life where we could then install composite decking and railing. We agreed on a price that day with a discount and got into their schedule once the work began they reinforced our frame and tore off all the old decking and railings and hauled it away new decking was installed then finally the railings being able to reinforce the framing saved up a lot of money and the deck still looks brand new. They mentioned they started staining and bringing old decks and porches back to life so we will use them next to refinish our front porch. The crew was friendly and on time and worked hard throughout the entire process.

This last summer we hired Modernized Exteriors to build us a brand new cedar deck with railings and it turned out looking excellent. As does with all cedar desk with the rain it started losing its new cedar deck shine. We meant to put a semi transparent stain on it but with our kids we were just too busy and also nervous because we didn't want to do it wrong and mess up the deck. We recently wanted to make sure this got handled so we called them back and asked how much it would cost to come back out pressure wash it bleach and clean the wood and put a deck stain on it. due to the railing and it being a second level deck it was a lot of work and they were able to fit us into their schedule about 3 weeks later. The deck ended up looking new again and we are so happy we had them do it! All in all I believe after staining the deck and giving the crew a good tip we spent about $5,600 which is a small price to pay to ensure our 30,000 deck lasts!

Modernized Exteriors did our deck remodel. Originally we had a old cedar deck that was falling apart. We opted to go with a composite decking with a wood grain and use a darker border color. We had no idea about using two different colors but it turned out looking great. we appreciated the attention to detail and the customer service by the crew and the project managers.

I was able to schedule an estimate quickly and two guys arrived on-time. Both were great to discuss design ideas with and I was left with a positive impression. Their estimate was emailed to me very promptly after their departure, but I was shocked by how expensive their estimate was compared to others. In fact, their estimate came in 50% greater than the next greatest estimate out of several other well-reviewed contractors.

Our initial quote consultation was very informative and went really well. When the crew showed up (when they said they would), they were professional and got the job done quickly and on time. There were a few minor details I was concerned about at the end of the project, but those were quickly remedied after I communicated. All in all a great experience! In obtaining information regarding siding for my home, Nick responded quickly and came out the next day. He was on time and very professional. Above all he was very honest. He pointed out that my siding had lots of life left. He was very forthright in accessing that all was needed was replacement of a few boards, caulk where necessary and paint, in lieu of a complete siding replacement. He roughly estimated the job for board replacement would be around $2,500 and could easily be handled by a handyman. While I most likely will go this route and the job will be too small for Modernized Exteriors to take on, I highly respect their integrity and if ever the need arises for a larger siding job I will definitely use them

The new deck has great construction, and makes our house feel new. We were also impressed with how fast the demo and construction phases went. All winter our siding stressed me out every time I pulled up to my home. We have the LP siding that was notorious for failing in this rainy weather. The fact is we knew it needed to be done and this summer! We knew it was going to be expensive and without taking equity out of the house we assumed it would be a stretch. Doing research online we assumed that for the full fiber cement siding replacement on our home we would be looking give or take about 30k for the siding replacement them maybe another $3,000 to paint on our 2100 sq ft rambler Cameron came out and was very knowledgable. we took a detailed walk around the house which the other estimate we received didn't do. he was here all of 10 minutes and said he would send us a number (which never came, we waited two weeks and wish we hadn't) We decided to choose the company that spent the time with us to make sure we got what we were looking for! During the walk around the house cameron pointed out some problem areas and gave us a couple great suggestions for a belly band and shingles in the peaks to give the home some character. unlike the first company he was able to give us a bid while he was out at our home. He gave us a 15 day bid and also encouraged us to move forward the same day by a discount they referred to as the efficiency discount. while going over the number the biggest thing was they offered us some financing options that not even our local credit union could offer. We opted to go for the efficiency discount since we know we needed it done and also take advantage of the financing they offered. We secured a great rate with a fair payment that allowed us to get what we wanted. If we didn't do the financing to be honest we wouldn't have been able to afford the siding so it was a big deal for us. Modernized exteriors was a couple thousand dollars ($4,000) higher than the pervious bid but we feel wit was worth every penny with the financing and that we got the much higher rated company. The siding was great and communication via texting was seamless Two thumbs up

"We are not the right company for everyone. Cheap and cutting corners is definitely not our specialty. We always tell our customers typically we are never the lowest bid but we are definitely not the highest either. I think for your project a good way to go might be to do it yourself or maybe hire a local handyman that is willing to work for $15 -$20 per hour. That is definitely not us though and we wish you the best on your decking project :)"

I called to see if I could get an estimate. I am appalled and very offended by their "policy" to only make an appointment if my husband was there at the appointment. He lives in Portland and this is MY house! How unbelievably sexist! I don't need my husband to be there in order to make decisions. It's MY money - that I will be taking elsewhere.

"It is not sexist to ask that all homeowners be present for our estimates. It has nothing to do with gender. If your husband called to set the appointment we'd ask that you be there as well. As you call around you will find that this is standard operating procedure for construction companies and is in the interest of saving everyone time, money, and miscommunication."

We recently had Modernized Exterior complete a deck remodel, new roof and gutters on our home. They were professional with incredible attention to detail from the time they arrived to talk to us about the processes throughout all of the actual construction. The cost was competitive with other companies we researched. They were able to roll all the jobs I needed into one cost as well as assisting us with reasonable financing. Upon completion, Nick came back out personally to see that everything was done to our liking. Prior to leaving Nick walked the grounds to ensure the area was clean and free of any miscellaneous debris. Simply put, this experience was above and beyond our expectations.

They said they were going to come out and do the work and they didn’t start until 3 weeks after they said they were going to start. Overall, the craftsmanship and everything all was excellent. It was around $15,000. I would consider using them again, but I would also look and see what other options I had.

Modernized Exteriors was our second bid. We talked to another company that had a special deal here on Angies List and we were not very impressed. The other company showed up 45 minutes late and smelled like cigarettes so terribly I had to stand downwind. Modernized Exteriors happened to show up 15 minutes early although they called and asked if that would be okay. It was a younger guy that showed up but he absolutely knew what he was talking about. He gave us suggestions we had never even thought about or considered and it made complete sense with they style of our home. We then went inside and looked at the iPad to choose our color. There was a couple different levels of composite and of course we chose the more expensive one but that was really the color that caught my husbands eye. The price they had was more expensive than the first company who I won't name their name but we really had confidence in Modern Exteriors to do a good job. The deck is all done now and looks excellent. In the process the company even helped fix the gate to my fence which has been broken for the last 5 years! Feels so good to have it shut and lock now!

Excellent. After I called them they came out and gave me a estimate. They sat down and showed me my options and different pricing ranges. The 30 year shingles would have definitely been okay for the house although we were very intrigued by the triple layer 50 year shingles even they were more expensive. once we were done looking over options and pricing we took advantage of their same day discount of free gutters that they were offering. Two weeks later the job started and it took them 3 days to fully complete the job after all the cleanup was done. We really appreciated the communication from this company and even though we only received one bid we were extremely impressed with the process.

"There is a massive range of deck options that can drive up the price. When we come out for a decking presentation we show all options beginning with the very top end and working our way down to the very basic. The high end was 52,500 and the low end was 12,000 for your deck. Obviously most people know there is a massive difference in costs for a basic cedar deck versus an exotic wood deck with tons of features. We showed you a range of what decks can cost, the very top end of your deck would have been 52,500. This is for steel framing, exotic wood, custom fabricated circular railings, custom lighting system and permits. This is for a circular design with inlays and a herringbone pattern for the boards. And also told you that if you wanted a cedar deck, cedar railings, and a pressure treated hemlock frame then the price would be less than 1/4 of that. I think it's important to note that we build extremely high end decks that most companies do not have the capability to build which is why we are ranked number 1 and have won the Super Service Award for deck building back to back to back. Can you spend 52,500 on a 350sqft deck? Yes. Can you spend under 10k on a 350 sqft deck? Yes. And every number inbetween, depending on options."

Our home in seattle had kind a a traditions early 1900s vibe with the cedar shingles. We wanted to keep with the look of the home and use a shingle but the new cedar they use is nothing like the old stuff and is very expensive. Cameron suggested the James Hardie fiber cement shingle panels. it goes up fast, has a 30 year warranty, and although it was thousands of dollars more expensive than the lesser cedar shingles we felt it was a no brainer to go with the product because of the pre painted material, the look and the 30 year warranty. With that being said we did use the hardie lap siding on the sides of our home and under the windows in the front but all in all we couldn't be happier. I live in Seattle and would be happy to show any future clients the final product of my home. Between you and me the company gave me a $200 marketing credit for using their home as a show home when someone in the area wants to drive by!!! don't tell them that though :)
