Modernized Exteriors seem to have built a decent deck for a decent price but in a somewhat sloppy and dishonest way. First, they left hundreds of pieces of debris including over 100 nails, screws, and other fasteners, and hundreds of pieces of the old deck lying around, including some pieces over six feet long, many with embedded nails sticking out. For months, nearly every time my daughters went out to play they came back with a handful of nails and screws. Second, the old deck had a notch through which the gutter downspout passed to reach the drain in the ground. Instead of cutting a notch for the downspout, they just tossed it behind a bush allowing the gutter to empty directly onto the deck. They promised a 12-month warranty, saying they'd come out to correct any defects. When I mentioned the disconnected gutter they initially said they'd fix it, but then ignored my follow-up messages when I asked them to actually do it. So they may not honor their promises.

I recently had Modernized Exteriors replace the siding on my home in Edmonds with James Hardie siding, and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. I recently had the pleasure of working with Modernized Exteriors, and I must say, their craftsmanship is exceptional. They transformed our outdoor space in Everett into a stunning oasis with a composite deck featuring Azek decking and sleek cable railing. Had an initial phone call. They took information about the property. Said they would call me within a few days with suggestions and a budget. Never called back.

Modernized Exteriors did a fantastic job with my deck reconstruction, gazebo rebuild, and installation of deck lighting! I selected M.E. from four contractors whom I had contacted. M.E. did two things right in that process. First, they did a phone consultation in order to give a ballpark estimate for my deck. They wanted to do a phone consult before coming out, because potential customers may drop their idea once they hear how expensive a project is going to be. M.E. does not send salespeople out to give estimates; the owners come out themselves. They were guarding their time, and I was impressed by that. The second thing they did right in the bid process was they were the only contractor to show me photos of their previous work. There are some outstanding examples that you can see on their website. I accepted M.E.’s bid, paid a 1/3 deposit, and given a schedule estimate for 6 to 8 weeks. Because of snowy weather in the Seattle area in late December/early January, my project did not actually begin until 10 weeks after my deposit. My project took about two weeks. Homes here in the Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle are a tight fit – as I put it – and I was a bit impacted by the need for a dumpster in my driveway (for old deck removal – my garage was inaccessible), and the need for a porta-potty for the crew on my curb strip. The inconveniences were well worth it, as my new deck looks spectacular! I only gave Modernized Exteriors four stars because I wanted you to read this review. As my project was underway, the crew was identifying additional work items that they deemed necessary in order to do the project correctly. For example, my old deck had a platform for my hot tub, and a wooden gazebo to cover it. We determined due to deterioration of the hot tub platform that the hot tub needed to be moved, and the platform rebuilt. This was an unforeseen need. As well, a considerable amount of soil and debris underneath the old deck needed to be removed, and the undergirding frame rebuilt. Perhaps naively, I was verbally assenting to these additional work items without inquiring about additional cost. Neither was this information volunteered by the contractor. The upshot is that my project went nearly 28% over the original estimate. By my opinion, exceeding a bid is a problem for one bit reason: The situation becomes indistinguishable from a contractor that deliberately low-balls an estimate in order to win business. I do not believe that went on here, because I could see that the additional work items were not foreseeable when the project was bid. All told, I would have agreed to the additional work even if the original bid had been updated. I value a job done right, and I have every expectation that my deck will last, and be beautiful for decades. The reader will have to decide whether the amount of surprise billing at the conclusion of the project was more the contractor’s fault for not updating the estimate, or mine for not asking about it. Congrats again to Modernized Exteriors for a job well done, and I do definitely recommend their services!

I paid for a roof inspection, but got a roof estimate instead. I should have realized this company was underhanded the second the guy came for an "inspection" without a ladder. I paid a down payment, requested a refund within the agreed upon time I could cancel the work without penalty. I was then ghosted by this company and am now out my down payment. BUYER BEWARE!!! They will high pressure you into a roof replacement, and if you cancel the job during the grace period they will GHOST YOU! Their salespeople will also LIE to you about not depositing checks until that grace period is over!!! DO NOT USE THIS PROVIDER!!!

The process went extremely smooth. The company first did a phone consultation to ask us some specific questions about our project and gave us a ballpark price based on the square footage and looking up pictures of our home online. They then scheduled a time to come out and meet with us and do a preliminary design and show us samples and pictures. We moved forward with the final pricing and they started a couple weeks later. Their employees showed up everyday until the project was complete and kept our home clean at the end of every day. This was a much different experience from what we had experienced in the past with contractors so we are very please

The person I dealt with was pleasant and asked for information via phone about our deck. I sent him photos of our original deck plans.. when he finally called me to discuss... he hadn't prepared by looking at the plans and didn't seem able to understand the size of our deck from the plans. If this is how they talk to a possible client.. I highly recommend finding someone more competent.

This guy is completely dishonest. I left several messages for him and he NEVER called me back, except once to tell me that my number showed up as private and he ignored it because he thought it was from a telemarketer. Really? What type of business ethic do you have? You put a coupon on Angie's list and don't honor it or respond to the people who are trying to hire you. I think you were looking for big projects so that you could make more money. Very dishonest and untrustworthy.

My wife and I were very pleased with the finished product of our new composite deck and railings. When the estimator came out to our home we were very impressed by his knowledge of decking and the process. They finished a week ahead of schedule and the overall communication from start to finish was excellent.

The Project went very smooth. Cameron came out to our house the next morning after we reached out for a estimate. our deck was in bad shape to begin with so we figured it would be a complete tear down and rebuild and he agreed. we went over some design changes that we came up with and color options ect and ended on a Timbertech Product for the Decking and Railing. Cameron also showed us pictures on his ipad of some recent projects and how they build them differently from most contractors to make sure its done right. The final product turned out amazing. we cant believe what a difference it made to our backyard especially looking out at it from our kitchen.

The project for a new roof and deck repair took a total of 4 days to complete. The installers were all polite and we ran into no issues during the construction process at all. We plan to have this company out this summer to do 3 sides of our home with new siding

had the deck replaced from this outfit. professional, on time and the attention to detail from their carpenters was amazing. We will hire again for our next project. We are going to get a lot of use out of this

we had a rotten old deck that was original to the home in the back made out of wood. It was rotting through bad and was extremely slippery when it got wet. we had this company come out and build us a great new deck made out of the azek composite decking material and railings. What a difference it made. this company went above and beyond and worked hard everyday.

I called Washingtons Best Decks and Siding, for a build bid on my new deck project, and they answered right away. Cameron came over with good ideas and pictures of decks that they already built. I told him I was considering Trex composite decking, because I wanted really low maintenance. He recommended Trex Transcend and I went with the Tiki Torch color. I accepted his bid on the spot. It took a while to get scheduled since it was the end of July. But when they were ready, it only took four and a half days to build my 12' by 20' deck. His crew is excellent and the finish project blew me away. It was so nice to have a project that came together so well in the end. Cameron and Nick came by the next day to make sure I was satisfied and to make sure the crew had cleaned up the work site. A job well done.

this company just completed our new deck last week and it looks so good. we used a timbertech product for the deck and a aluminum railing. We really think it was a good choice. It seemed like a really streamlined process, we got our bid the day after calling them when they came out and we signed up to get in their schedule for the next month and took advantage of their discount system. really nice team!

Washingtons best deck and siding came out the morning after we read the reviews and called to have them set a appointment. When cameron answered the phone we just talked a little about what we were looking for and he gave us some great suggestions right over the phone. during the appointment we went through some pictures on his iPad of the different options and materials then we went over the pricing list to see which made the most sense. They had a deal where they were offering Azek decking for the same price as the trex decking which was a great deal so we decided to go for that will composite railings. The decking crew which was a crew of 2 was there working hard everyday and on time. The final product was perfect. All the boards were spaced out just right since they used the hidden screw system so we didn't have a bunch of screw holes. the whole process took about 2 1/2 weeks from start of construction and costed about $34,000 and some change. when they were all done they cleaned up and it looked better than when it started.

They were too busy, booked out two months, and we needed help sooner. Cameron was courteous, helpful, and honest. They usually do larger projects than what we needed, but they might have been able to help if we didn't need the job done sooner. I'd definitely call him back for other projects.

Two gentlemen came out and spent a good amount of time talking to my husband and I about what we wanted and possible options. Very pleasant young men but we never heard from them again. We never received an estimate on the work we wanted done and they did not respond to our inquiring phone call a month later.

My Wife and I had a excellent experience working with Cameron and designing our new deck. The process was done quickly. We signed during the consultation and they started the deck just two weeks later. Quality of the deck was great and it is making a huge difference to our backyard.

The decking project started out with finding this company online through their reviews and word of mouth. After the initial call to the office and talking to them we received a call from the owner to schedule a appropriate time to meet. They came out the next morning which was super helpful since we were in the beginning stages and we understood we should make a decision quick if we wanted to get it completed in a reasonable amount of time as the sunshine is here. The next day cameron showed up and took us through the important steps of building a correct deck to last. Naturally we wanted to go with a composite and through the pictures we chose a azek decking system which was more expensive because of the style but we knew that is the color we went through. After going through the pricing sheet my wife and I agreed with our budget and the amount of railings we have we would go with a azek composite decking for the flooring planks with a dark hickory color. the railings we chose to go with a hybrid cedar railing to save in cost. cameron was super helpful and made a couple great suggestions to the layout and the placement of the stairs. When the work started the demo of our current deck was done and removed in about a day and a half and the new construction started. the digging of the footings was really important to my wife and myself as the deck we had before was done wrong and sank due to the wet seattle weather. the concrete footings were done in a couple days after drying and the framing started. They did a great job explaining the correct way to build a deck due to code and did everything they promised. We understood every company was different with the quality of decks built and we chose to go with a composite around the fascia and stairs to make it a very low maintenance project that would last as long as we owned the house. The deck was done in a timely manner and the crew was out every day and working hard. We know we paid slightly more to complete the deck in a full composite but we were confident that it was the right choice for our family to go with the low maintenance option for a couple extra thousand as we did not want to worry about painting or staining the deck every couple years. finally the deck was done after 12 days of hard work. (2 to demo and 10 to build) the final product really did come out looking how we imagined from the design and pictures cameron showed us and we were really impressed how the double border really affected the feel of the final product. if I was to give advice to anyone I would definitely point them in that direction as opposed to going with the cheaper option of just hucking it up quicker. in conclusion we have no regrets and will look forward to enjoying the deck while we own the home while at the same time enjoying the resale value of the deck in 10 years since we chose the composite. the Azek dark mahogany looks perfect.

This is the decking that we chose after cameron had shown us the choices on his i pad. the estimators were really helpful in explaing the process of whats involved in the building process. One the deck was done the next day the crew started construction our Aluminum patio cover. The cover was up in 2 days we are really going to be able to enjoy our deck year round now!

The project was prompt and the crew were courteous. We decided to go with the just pre primed james hardie siding and a trex decking with composite railings. I really enjoyed this service. cameron came out on the first visit to show us the pictures and help with with choosing colors and pricing of our new deck. We was extremely helpful and pointed us in the direction of going with his favorite which was a actual hardwood called tiger deck. We wanted low maintenance and this wood doesn't take much. we absolutely love it and when we had our first bbq one of our friends are in contact with them as well. Decking was tiger deck and the railings were aluminum. I will post pictures of the deck soon so you can really get a feel of how it looks!
