Jared was very helpful, listened to what I needed, made good suggestions including several that saved me money and built a really nice access door. He asked multiple times through the project about various options and followed my direction in keeping the work and cost down. Most importantly, there was another area of sheathing with a small amount of rot - I asked him if he would replace it all - and he suggested using some scrap from the access door to replace the quite small rotted section and told me I would be wasting my money to replace all the sheathing. Can't be anything but happy about a nice guy, competent, listens to what the owner wants, and saves the owner money even at the cost of turning down more work. I'd hire him again without any reservation.
His availability was limited when our scope crept beyond what we had planned but he was thoughtful and a good communicator in getting to dates that would work for us all in the end and to complete the work.
Our house was built in 1957 and we bought from the original owners so we are extensively remodeling. We look forward to working with Jared again for the myriad of projects this house requires...
Professional. Honest. Quality Finished Product. Problem Solvers. Clean.
We worked with several companies for quotes on our new deck but went with Method Finish Carpentry, mainly based on their price and professionalism. The quoting process was extremely detailed which provided an easy way to see where we could make simple trade-offs and also track our costs throughout the project. Method even provided some creative ideas (e.g. baby gate) and solutions (e.g. removable decking) when we needed to augment the existing design.
The Method team was extremely gracious when entering our home, always removing shoes and ensuring that there was no trace left behind. The same goes for our yard and deck area, as well, as the team took the time to clean-up after themselves everyday which was incredibly thoughtful given that we have three young children. The finished product certainly exceeded our expectations - the deck looks great and the team went above and beyond to install a weed barrier under the deck prior to the final construction and even let us know where flashing was incorrectly installed and offered to reinstall correctly (charging only the time and materials needed). We are incredibly pleased with the outcome.
We are currently finishing a large scale interior remodel of our home and I know that we will use the Method team again on several interior projects.
Jared is really patient and helpful, and offers lots of great suggestions. As I planned this remodel myself, its great to work with someone who takes the time to understand and help on my unprofessional plans. Working with Jared I foresaw a lot of issues and we came up with workable plans to some tricky situations before they arose. I'm really happy with the results.
I outsourced some of the work (plumbing, electrical, and tiling), and Jared managed everything else. I had planned just to do the bathroom, but as the work was looking so good, it would have made the rest of the house look terrible! So we added in some extra skim coating, new trim, and painting in other rooms. I also had an old chimney from an upgrade for an oil furnace to gas, and Jared saw to removing the chimney and patching up the roof and floor.
Jared was flexible with schedule once things got underway, and worked well around the other contractors. Overall the schedule went reasonably well considering the amount of work done.
My bathroom is the envy of all my friends now! I can't wait to have Jared back in a couple of months to give me a new deck on the front of the house as well,
Our experience with Jared was great. When I first contacted him, he was vacationing with his family and took the time to discuss my project. We had a structural engineer draw up plans for reinforcing our deck and, upon meeting Jared, Jared appeared to have no trouble going through the blueprints to identify the work to be done, which consisted of replacing a supporting beam, adding another to be held up with new supporting columns, reinforcing other existing columns, adding flashing and--with my apologies to Jared--many other details that are beyond the scope of my understanding. We had a few bumps getting our job scheduled, on both our sides, but we were each flexible and once the job began, Jared focused on it until it was finished.
Jared always stayed in contact with us and I found I could rely on him to let us know when something noteworthy was about to take place. He was even considerate enough to try and jackhammer concrete around my toddler's naps (we discovered we have sons the same age; we probably swapped as much parenting advice and stories as we did work-related information!).
Even though it might be said our job was straightforward (though still a good amount of work), Jared made sure all of his t's were crossed and his i's dotted. He requested a pre-inspection with the city with my husband and me present, had his work inspected before any concrete was poured, and then arranged for the final inspections, which passed with no trouble. After witnessing neighbors deal with a job that had to be redone after an inspection, we were very appreciative of Jared's thoroughness. Along those lines, when a couple unforeseen discrepancies came up between the blueprints and the reality of our deck, Jared quickly shared the information with my husband and me and asked permission to speak directly to the engineer. Issues were resolved promptly. I might add that Jared keeps an *immaculate* job site (I found him scrubbing out some little stain in our driveway today...I'm sure I would never have known it was there). I can only imagine how this translates into his work.
If we have carpentry needs in the future, I am sure we'll call on Method Finish.
What I most appreciate about Jared is his integrity and meticulousness.
- The extractor hood was quite heavy and I had taken out a wall where it was to be hung. Although the wall was non-load bearing, the ceiling wasn't quite level and sagged a little. Jared spotted this and put in some sturdy structural support in the ceiling.
- The drywaller hadn't done the best of jobs, and some of the surfaces weren't exactly plumb and level. For the wall with the build-ins Jared had a plasterer he recommended bring the wall out to level. For the hood trim Jared did a great job at contouring/hiding the non-square surface with his trim work.
There was one minor mishap where a wall he raised wasn't quite high enough. Even though I blame myself partly (as much of the work was me explaining what I wanted, not having good written plans), Jared took it upon himself to correct the wall height at no charge for his time.
I found Jared very easy to work with. He is very relaxed and stress free, yet very professional and thorough. He was great to bounce ideas off and make recommendations when my requirements weren't clear. I'm looking forward to working with him again.
Once the project began, Jared let us know what he would be doing that day and the next. We really appreciated the level of communication. He ran into a problem with the electrical and traced it back to a bad breaker, which he fixed, making sure it was safe before he left for the day. At the end of the project, he explained everything he had done. He did some things that were not a part of the estimate.
Jared is a very thoughtful person and the quality of his work reflects that thoughtfulness. We could not be happier and are already planning our next project. Thank you Jared, for everything.
Jared was professional and patient as we walked through the work together and some other work I needed last minute.
My only knock was that we had to reschedule several times, but I understand that's because this was a small job and he was trying to squeeze me in.
I would definitely recommend or use him again for other projects.
Jared made an appointment, and showed up on time. He spent considerable time with me, and even took a look in the attic just to get an idea of what he would be working with. I also had several other projects we discussed, but the microwave was my priority. He said he'd have a proposal back to me within a week.
Within a week I had a proposal for all projects. It clearly listed the work to be done, and the cost for each project. I accepted the proposal for the microwave, signed the proposal, and sent a deposit of 50%. Jared told me where I was on his schedule, gave me an estimate of when he would be available to start, and that he wouldn't cash the check until the job was begun.
When he arrived to work on the project, it was raining. Jared rehung the microwave-rangehood, found the venting problem (a damper that was stuck closed), and brought the existing ductwork up to code. Because it was raining, we decided NOT to cut a hole in the roof that day!
He came back within 3 weeks and finished the job. While he was in the attic, he visually inspected the ductwork for the bathroom fan (a project for another day). While he was on my roof attaching the vent cap, he performed a visual inspection of my roof and gutters. He even oiled the gate he used to come and go! He took pictures of the venting in the attic and the vent cap on the roof.
Jared's work is exacting, and everything is up to code. He educated me on multiple processes along the way. He's easy to work with, and very forthright. I would absolutely recommend his services, and would not hesitate to call him again.
