When my husband and I thought we were going to buy a plot of land and build our dream home, we interviewed 3 architects. We ended up going with Bob Hoshide as he had done work for my husband years ago. His fees were also in the middle of the pack.
He did two architectural plans for a house we didn't end up building -- turns out the banking crisis made it just about impossible to get a loan to build, although we could get a regular mortgage. I'm not sure Bob even charged us for those plans! We ended up buying an existing house and remodelling. Bob came out with an assistant to measure and draw up existing plans. He then worked with us to design the remodel. We removed a wall separating the living room from the dining room. We turned 3 bedrooms and a tiny bathroom into 1 master bedroom suite with 2 walk-in closets, a laundry area, a small study, and a master bath. Bob suggested a contractor, and monitored progress throughout.
The whole job turned out beautifully! Bob is great to work with: he listens to what you want, makes creative suggestions on design, plus after decades in the field, he's very knowledgeable about land use, permits, etc. I also appreciated that he suggested little things that cut down cost, such as refacing an existing cabinet, reusing doors and a couple fixtures. At one point, we had to brainstorm ideas on hiding the laundry area without using louvered doors (which we dislike). Bob came up with a great idea to join together 2 leftover doors on a sliding track that would cover the laundry area or slide out of the way. Brilliant! We absolutely love our house and highly recommend Bob Hoshide to anyone.
