One very good thing that Bob did was to hire a really excellent subcontractor to install the actual heat pump. My neighbors had a heat pump installed a few months before us, and they've had multiple problems with it. Ours works great though. The heat pump guys showed up at our house and were such geeks - they knew the whole thing backwards and forwards, and had the same systems in their own homes. I could tell they were passionate about their work. They even went the extra mile and installed a mini-condenser unit in the inside line to keep water out of the lines (at no extra cost to me).
Good experience, very easy, and the budget numbers were right. We'd hire them again!
The walkthrough went well, no complaints. But the initial bid was missing some key items that we had discussed. This required an minor amendment to the bid. It took some time to get the job scheduled--something like 3 weeks, with a couple of false starts. I would suggest some slightly better communication on when the work would be starting. Saying, and quot;I think we'll likely start the week after nextand quot; doesn't really cut it. I'd like to get the job scheduled down to the day and if possible, when the workers would show up.
When the work was actually done, I think they did a decent job. Hard to say, as no one ever really walked around with me to discuss how it went or what was done. The workers annoyed some family members by parking in the driveway without asking first.
After the work was completed, the owner called to ask that I pay the foreman for the work. It seemed a little strange. I had planned to pay the day of, but it seemed an odd request.
Overall, I think the work was fine, but the business practice needs a little more polish. Needs better response on returning calls and communication.
