Home Depot subcontracts the work out even though the HD salesman who first visited the house to write up the quote claimed otherwise. The quality of the end product is awful. Attached photos show some of the issues. Drawers are misaligned, gaps not uniform, low quality drawer slides that stick. The staples they used to attach the new drawer fronts are too long and project sharp points inside into the drawer. Even though HD is the general contractor they don't even attend to the small things that a typical general contractor would do: their subs wouldn't take down the old mirror which was wall mounted and too large for me to handle safely. I had to hire a handyman to do it. Also, HD didn't reconnect the plumbing even though it was stated in the contract they would. After waiting two weeks I hired a plumber to get it done. I contacted HD to get these issues resolved but all I got was silence. Do not waste your money on HD remodeling services.

Three different vendors were involed--a measuring/estimator company used by Home Depot, the flooring manufacturer ("Home Legends") and the installers used by Home Depot. Home Depot was expected to coordinate and answer for problems of its vendors. Such has not been my experience. The flooring came in red and completely different than the walnut (brown) sample (I'm not talking about a subtle "lot" difference), and no one believes that it is walnut, even the installer. Home Legends ultimately revealed that the product sold as solid Moroccan walnut is actually a stained product. Home Depot claimed to be surprised to learn this. Home Depot asked Home Legends to replace the flooring. Home Legends refused and offered an $1100 rebate. Home Depot then told me that I would need to allow completion of the installation before they would decide how to compensate me for the fact that the floor clashes with my brown kitchen floor and walnut (brown, not red) baseboards and trim throughout the house.Additionally, the partial installation and initial order by the estimator was botched. The wrong transition pieces were ordered. Many came in as veneers and matched the sample (brown) and so clashed with the floor (red). Transition pieces were installed shoddily with visible nails. One trim piece, onstensbly installed temporarily, while they waited for more pieces, was installed at the edge of the floor going down stairs. The installer wrote "do not step on this"  in black marker on this edge piece. That was over a month ago. The estimator company ordered 10% excess wood but the installer ran out of wood. Each blames the other or the manufacturer. After 2 1/2 months of discussion, Home Depot's main office told me that their standard policy requires me to accept installation of the rest of the product before they will reveal their settlement offer. They also told me that disputing my AMEX charge may interfere with settlement. Obviously I disputed the AMEX charge before my time to do so ran out and have no intention of withdrawing that dispute and losing my legal rights. It should also be pointed out that I rejected this flooring in writing when the installer began the job and asked me to indicate that the product was acceptable and what I ordered. I will upload pictures that are a lot more articulate and succinct than me if there is an option for doing so.

It took 3 days to do. They did a beautiful job on the finishing. We have a sloped landscape, and they did a great job in making the fence level. They also ground around a stump in the way, too.

The first time we got there, we didn't know what we were doing and we had a really good person explain everything and show us the options so that was good. I was at the Paint Corner and there was an order line and then another line where you can pick up your stuff. I was standing at the pick up side and I didn't even realize that that was the pick up line and nobody told me. Some days they are just busy and so they have to mix the colors and do all that stuff but they are good.

Carpet Installation
$500
WARNING! NEVER use Home Depot for installation. This experience was a nightmare from start to finish. First Home Depot advertising shows $139 for whole house installation but charges $199 for their and quot;72 hour carpetand quot;. The and quot;72 hoursand quot; is actually closer to two weeks because there are multiple steps for the measuring, purchasing, and installation process. I was able to get the price down to $139 but that was only the beginning of the issues. After the install, I discovered a small hard round bump protruding upwards underneath the carpet, which I never noticed with the old carpet. Judy came back to look at it and believes it is a rock imbedded in the concrete slab, which may be true. But during the install they never noticed it or pointed it out to me so I could address it. Now they want to charge me an additional $140 to pull back the carpet to look at whatever it is, find someone else to repair it at my own expense, and then charge me an additional $140 to lay it back down. This would put the total install of a 150 square foot carpet to over $400. While it is possible this defect may have existed before their install, I believe they should bear the burden of pulling back and reinstalling the carpet since they didn't notice it during the initial install. I will NEVER use Home Depot installers for anything again because they do not stand behind their work.

Update: I had a (non-Home Depot) carpet installer pull up the carpet. There was a loose rock under the padding. Once the rock was removed, the issue was resolved. Home Depot must have left the rock under the pad when they did the install.

It was horrible. We went to Tracy (sp?) to get some ideas about cabinets, since this was going to be a big purchase for us and we felt we needed some advice. Although she wasn't working with anyone, she treated us as if we were infringing on her personal time. She was terse, did not smile once and said she could only work with us if we already knew what cabinets we needed. She told us that we could pay $100 to have someone come out to look at our kitchen and design something for us, but again, her tone of voice and general lack of helpfulness was very off-putting. Tracy should consider work that doesn't require her to interact with the public. It's possible that this was an off day for her, but it cost them a sale. We ended up going to another home improvement store and spending over $11,000 on new cabinets. Their loss, the other home improvement store's gain!

They were very thorough in explaining how to install the tile. This helped save me money. They are always helpful and very friendly. With them, I have been able to do several projects myself, including some cabinet work and some blinds as well. I will always go to Home Depot.

Home Depot is horrible! The installers arrived late and stayed late. They did not come on the days they said they d come. They had estimated the job would take 6 weeks and it took over 18 months! The installers put the cabinets on the wrong walls so they had to come back and switch them around. The wall extension had an angle in it. A lot of the cabinet doors were marred. Beware! Do not use them!

H.D. inspector missed defective and missing parts causing many delays for reorders. Installers came late and left early, made careless mistakes including installing banks of cabinets on the wrong walls, building a crooked wall extension, not finishing walls for painting, not venting hood range to outside, disabling electrical switches, etc. Two month remodel took 18 months to finish and Kraft maid troubleshooter finally had to complete the project when H.D. installers just quit. H.D. kept passing our file off from one ''fixer'' to another, 5 or 6 in all and has just now (3/06) decided to credit our account for unused countertop materials and work we had to finish ourselves. No reimbursement for all the extra vacation time I had to waste for installers' extra trips to undo their incompetence and negligence. The current ''fixer'' says H.D. takes no responsibility for it's installers' incompetence, negligence, or unnecessary delays. Ergo, these are acceptable standards of performance for H.

ONCE WE PLACED THE ORDER, THE CARPET ARRIVED AND WAS INSTALLED IN LESS THAN A WEEK. THE INSTALLERS CHIPPED THE BASE OF ONE TOILET, BUT WENT RIGHT OUT AND BOUGHT THE SAME (NEW) TOILET AND INSTALLED IT.
