Pretty decent, overall. It got a little bumpy, but everyone involved pulled together to make it right in the end.

There aren't many employees there on the floor and it's harder to find someone to help you. People won't leave their station to help you. I would tell people to be prepared to search for people to help you. Parking is horrible at that location.

Rented a pruning chain saw on a pole for 4 hours. Fast check out. Thorough explanation of operation. Plenty of gas and chain oil - so we didn't have to stop working. Relatively new equipment. Fast check-in. No hidden fees.

Did not walk or measure the roof from the roof. The estimate was based on a survey from the ground.
Provided several estimates based on the warranty. They came as separate e mails with no distinguishing remark in the subject line, had to go through each one to determine what warranty applied with each estimate. The estimate in all cases was higher than the other two providers.
I am guessing at the date. It was in September, late season for roofing. The estimate took a couple of days to schedule after I requested an estimate. A built in delay due to how the company processed the request is my guess, but it caused me to hold off scheduling the roofing job with another contractor.

The installation crew went beyond my expectations. They installed a rope inside a down spout, located next to a window in my daughters room, to prevent the sound of dripping being heard by my daughter.
Very pleased with their service. Will be needing windows in the near future and will include them in my search for a contractor.

From every step of the process from estimating to installing extremely professional because of weather here in the Pacific NW they have to wait for a lull in the rain before they can start and the one day there was only a 50% chance of rain in the afternoon they arrived at my house at 7:30 am and worked non stop all day until daylight left them. The next day someone came out again at 7:30 am and worked all day to complete the job. They had to tear off the old roof and replace vents and pipes and such and put the new roof on. I was worried from some of the reviews I saw on homedepot but I have to tell you I didnt experience any problems in fact just the opposite they called several times emailed several times supervisors came out several times excellent company.

One word: Ridiculous
I received an estimate for a roof replacement from Home Depot. I knew deep down that I would never use them for such a large purchase because of previous experiences with them on much smaller projects. But since they wouldn't stop bugging me, I finally agreed to get an estimate. The more information the better since we're going to replace this roof once in our lifetime (hopefully).
The gentleman who visited my own seemed to be knowledgeable about roofs, though on other estimates I was given contradictory information. It's all mostly sales tactics anyway so it's really hard to know for sure who knows more, who is stretching the truth, and who is being completely upfront. For example, some roofers are saying that my 17 year old cedar shake roof actually has a few more years of life in it so we should delay replacement. The Home Depot guy made us think the house is about to fall apart, and it desperately needs replacing ASAP. It's a bummer for the honest guys out there because the more unscrupulous, overly dramatic, high pressure ones have caused me to be skeptical of anything anyone says.
When he came out to take measurements, he was the only one of four companies to give bids who did not get on the roof and measure properly or inspect the roof to see if it was even ready for replacement. He did estimates from his car, and his bid turned out to be for two squares more than everyone else. Fast forward to the sales pitch, which required my husband and I both to be there, while our three children under four years old squawked in the background.
Initially, I thought the conversation was going well, and I was learning a lot. Near the end of his two-ish hour long speech, he started with the scare tactics. For example, he said that all of the Home Depot installers are drug tested and have a background check. He went on to say that we as a young family wouldn't want to worry about pedophiles and drugs around my children (all girls). That statement was so wrong, when parents are often already worried about their kids, and for him to even plant that seed of doubt appalls me. As if a Home Depot installer is perfect and no one else can be trusted around my kids. I won't allow my kids to be around any contractor that I hire. They will be working in dangerous conditions, and my kids need to be as far away from that as possible. He also showed us pictures of houses where the venting wasn't done properly, causing mold growth, and forcing the homeowner buy another roof within five years. Of course, the implication was that Home Depot is the only way to go because they're the only ones who can do it correctly. The peace of mind is worth the premium they charge.
And when I say premium, I really mean and quot;highway robberyand quot;. The other estimates that I got ranged between $29,000 and $35,000 for Certainteed Presidential TL shingles (~50 squares). These estimates were given by certified Certainteed Installers with Angie's List service awards, and long established businesses and reputations, not some random guy I found in the want ads. Home Depot's quote was a staggering $49,000!!!!!!! (yes, that's US dollars). Then he started talking about a rebate here and a coupon there which is expiring in two days, by the way, but no pressure, right? It got the price down to ~$45k. He was very clear about there being no more discounts available. He did mention several times that there was 12 months, same as cash financing, believing that would be an incentive to us. When he was about to leave, I asked if we paid cash or used our own financing, is there a discount. He said you can have another 5% off. So yes, there were more discounts to be had, but you have to ask about it. Otherwise, if you do decide to use them for your new roof, they will roll interest into your bid whether you use their financing option or not. What a dishonest way to do business, partiularly after hearing the first half hour of his speech, which was bragging about Home Depot's success, their high morals, values, and whatnot.
I already know that going through box stores to get major work done is a bad idea. They don't employ any of these people so they're subcontractors. Knowing from past experience that adds a lot to the price. What's worse---if something goes wrong, you're practically guaranteed to get the runaround. I know this is the case because it happened to me. The Home Depot sales guy will make an excuse and say that they're in the Home Services Division, which is actually a separate entity from the box store and from other installation services they offer, with their own management, who will handle any concerns with workmanship, and the customer won't have any issues or anything to worry about. But I just don't believe that... If you google Home Depot Home Services Division, you will get pages upon pages of complaints.

They have a decent collection of tools. My husband generally deals with this and I'm not sure of the exact tools that we've rented from them before. It's a pretty painless process. We spent between $50 and $75 for the last rental equipment.

I haven't had the best experience so I probably would not tell anyone about them. They recently measured for the doors and somebody came out to put the doors in and they had the wrong size doors. I had to reorder the doors or have somebody else who actually measured the doors put them in. I have been having problems with the whole process of getting the correct doors that I ordered and getting them put in. It has been exactly a month and a half and I still don't have the doors installed yet. They were actually too big. The guy who came to put in the doors measured the opening in the frame and said it would not fit. It wasn't the same guy that measured for the doors and went to Home Depot to give me the correct doors but they said they couldn't do it. I still don't have my doors in and I am supposed to get them installed this Saturday. I still have to see if it happens.

They gave excellent instructions for use and inspect the machine before rental. They load and unload the machine which is helpful since it's so heavy. Basically all you have to do is take it home and turn it on.

Nothing to add, really I was worried that the door would not arrive on time. I had the window installers working at my home for a specific time frame. and it would be a hassle to get them to come back if the door was not ready to install. It was ready and Home Depot performed well here. Ron Christensen is good guy to work with.

Appliance Sale, Vacuum Cleaners
$400
I found the vacuum cleaner I was looking for, but I noticed the package had been opened. I asked the sales person if I could get a discount because the package had been opened. She assured me the item would not be placed out on the floor unless it was ready to sell, so I bought it at the advertised price. When I got it home, it required a little assembly. The handle needed to be fit onto the base and then fastened with two screws. I noticed when I attached the handle that a piece connected to the On/Off switch seemed to be bent. When I attached the handle, the vacuum cleaner turned on the first time I used it, but it would not turn back off. I needed to return the item, and I went to Sears and purchased a different vacuum cleaner.

Hardware & Home Improvement Stores, Plumbing
$10
I went to the Home Depot near Starbucks HQ to get fittings for a counter-top water filter that I own. On my first trip, I arrived at the store with about 15 minutes to spare before they were to close. The sales person hesitated when I asked him for assistance. When I asked if there was anyone else to help me, he finally showed me which aisle to look in. I had the part that fit into my kitchen faucet and the actual water filter with me, so it was just a matter of finding the parts to match. Within minutes it was clear to me that the salesperson didn't have a clue about how to help me. I found what I thought were the right parts, paid for them and left. The parts didn't fit, so I returned a couple of days later. I got a refund on the parts and went to the service counter. I asked for help and showed the manager what I was trying to do. When the same lousy sales person who had not helped me before came over, I asked the sales manager if there was someone else who could help me. The manager hesitatingly helped me, but he seemed to know even LESS about plumbing than the first salesperson. Mind you, I have done this job before, and it is not advanced plumbing. The manager took me to the copper fittings section and started trying to find a match. When I told him I was pretty sure I didn't need copper tubing for this job, he told me that was all they had. Lesson for me, next time I need help with plumbing, I should go to a REAL HARDWARE store. Thank god they still exist.

I like that Home Depot has really good deals on plants. I like that you can always ask questions and they have answers. They do not mind taking the time to work with you. I have problem finding the things I am looking for and the selections of items are good.

At the time of purchase, Home Depot was offering a deal of free delivery, and all appliances over $300.00 were 10% off. They had lots of time-windows beginning in just a few days that I could chose from. The installers were very professional and FAST! The day before the appointment, Home Depot called to inform me of the time of delivery. The next day they arrived right on time and were in and out in no time. The microhood was installed with no glitches and is obviously very securely installed.

Carpet Installation
$3,815
One of the male employees told me to measure the part of the condo that needed carpet and bring it in for an estimate on sq yards. The problem with that is carpet is not just based on sq yardage, it has to lay right. We have a diagonal hallway, so we needed more carpet than just multipying out the sq yards. The in-store estimate was 30 sq yrds ($1000+) short of what was actually needed. Be warned. Catherine at HD did a great job of following up with me. We had to get this done in a rush. I was overseas on business right after I placed the order. I really appreciated her help. However in general, you need to be your own advocate with HD and follow up on everything. That same male employee put in my home address for the work instead of the condo. I had to personally call twice to HD to get that changed and notify the estimator myself to come to the correct address. Sloppy. The install was fine, no problems. Be prepared to be onsite all day though.

The door looks and works great and we are very happy to have it. But we did have to wait 2 months before the door was made and shipped to us originally. Shannon worked very hard in the HD Millwork Services area to get us the bid and give us updates. But like anything with HD you have to be patient but also willing to follow-up on everything or else you'll fall through the cracks. (Note: The door has to first be delivered then you have to paint it. This is before you schedule the installers to hang the door and install the opener.)

Good service at store. The contractor tried to up-sell me, but backed off when I said I wanted what I ordered. The installation was excellent and professional, despite aspects that complicated the installation.
