Healthy Painting LLC

About us

Darryl Whalen has been a professional painting contractor since the summer of 1978. Our business is not a production-based business, but rather one that is focused on service and relationship. It’s about doing a fantastic job with great products in a safe and healthy manner that embodies the intention of educating and inspiring others. It’s not just about making a profit and being successful. It’s about continuing to find something to be excited about in the work we have been involved in for more than 3 decades. We do not "sub out" or use separate people or sources to do any portion of any job, so clients are assured they are getting us at every step, from estimates through clean-up.

I have used Darryl and Tom and their crews a number of times for various projects across multiple locations. While there is no mistaking them for a large, corporate outfit, they are a solid operation interested in getting the job right each and every time. On a handful of occasions, they have found that my projects were more difficult than what they had quoted, but they have been very up front with their communications and generally honor the price that they stated on the front end. I have and would continue to recommend them.

Darryl was prompt in providing a quote for the work we requested. He let us know when his schedule allowed him to begin the job. His price was very competitive to other estimates. He went beyond the scope of work agreed to, but did not charge for additional labor, only supplies. Darryl is very conscientious and takes great pride in his work. The quality of his work was impacted by the fact there was much more damage to the outside wood structures than we first thought. As he is not a carpenter, he fixed the wood rot as well as he could and advised several wood sections should be replaced in the near future. I know he was frustrated at not being able to fix some of the severe trouble areas to a higher quality. He is also a "green" contractor and, how his work and supplies impact the environment is very important to his company. I felt very comfortable having Darryl in our home and trusting he would do a good and complete job.

The most important part of the work, to me, was how beautifully it was done. This paint work has increased the value of our home - (curb appeal!) - and the value of our rental - (income!). I have never found such high quality paint work in another contractor in 17 years of managing rentals and owning a home. Great job, guys, and we will see you for the next phase of the work very soon!

Darryl did a fantastic job, I could hardly believe how dramatically better it looked when I went in afterwards. He stayed 11 1/2 hours to finish it in one day, while my son was on school break. The wall surfaces and door were smooth. He noticed that the glass of my son's ceiling light fixture was broken, and while waiting for a coat of paint to dry, he went to Lowes to get another, and replaced it. He is knowledgeable about environmental considerations in working on houses, and trained on lead issues. Darryl has several skills--he refinished the floors in my sister's house, and now he and a colleague are putting a ceiling in my basement.

The owner, Darryl, is very meticulous. The crew does an adequate job, but then Darryl comes in and gets it just the way you want it.

Shortly after my house was painted, bubbles started forming at various sites. One year after the paint job the company owner came out and tried to remedy the problem but the bubles came back. He did try but was not successful. The problem seems to be that the cedar siding is sealed by paint and calking where the boards meet. I am in the process of remedying by scoring with a knife to open up the boards so the house can vent itself. While Daryl guessed that this was the problem, he never would agree to do this work for me and so I have retained a contracter who seems to know better how to remedy this situation.
