The work and quality was ok and nothing really I can complain about. What wasn't ok was the process and the duress caused. This was a first time remodel and there are certain things that just aren't known...laugh if you want, but who knew that doors came in different sizes? So the framing was completed and I was then asked to choose a door design which I did. The door was then fitted only to realize that it was too large to open without hitting the stairs and that the door in question was larger than any other in the house!! It's obvious now, but I want a contractor to explain that in 2 weeks a decision on a door needs to be made, and that all the doors in the house are xyz in width and that anything more than y inches will not fully open. There were numerous examples of corners being cut that resulted in many standoff's about the quality of work - these were all rectified but only after some fairly serious meetings. The worst moment was this: framing was complete and we were waiting for the windows to arrive. My wife was at home with a 2 year old and a 6 month old baby who had the roseola virus (see at bottom). Temps in Seattle were at about 25-30F and the entire back of the house had been removed, covered in plastic and the house was FREEZING. There was no kitchen and running water was in the bathroom ONLY. Finally the windows arrived which meant the house would be insulated from the outside conditions. However, Norm announced that he couldn't fit the windows because we hadn't picked the trim!! Trim had not been mentioned before as we could have easily selected it. So my wife stood in a freezing room in her nightdress, with a toddler and a vomiting baby in tears to hear that the windows couldn't be fitted. Here's the deal - there's no reason you can rough the windows in and fit the trim later. In fact, after Norm left my wife in tears his head contractor said "don't worry lady, we'll get your windows in today". And he did. It's the most extreme example in the remodel, but that's no way to behave and still to this day I can't explain why these things happened. To a more experienced person I'm sure Norm can be managed, but at the rate he charged that not what I expect. It was only the pity of his workers that salvaged the situation. We removed Norm and HazelPoint before completion of the project and were overjoyed at the replacement contractor and his work. Norm left us poorer but older and wiser. ROSEOLA: The first symptom you will notice in your baby is an unexplained very high fever. The fever can be as high as 104 to 106 degrees. The fever can last from one to five days and then disappear. Within 24 hours later a rash will appear on the neck, upper arms and the trunk, and then spread to the face and legs. Your baby may also get diarhea, nausea, and vomitting with swollen lymph glands under the baby?s neck. You may notice the symptoms of the common cold such as loss of appetite, irritability, and sore throat.

Hazel Point has proven to be one of the highest-performing, ethical, and great to deal with during my entire remodel. From the time I drove up to the house, I noticed that the tile stairway was covered with protective coating to protect the stairs. I opened the front door and the entire path to where the repairs were being made was carefully sealed off in a "cocoon" of plastic from ceiling to floor. Nothing was exposed except the area where the work was being done. Of the repairs that were made, the work could not have been done any better. I was in fact impressed with the high level of skill and attention to detail that Hazel Point delivered. Not the cheapest contractor, but of all the contractors I have recently hired, Hazel Point is EASILY the best value!!!!! I GOT what I paid for, it looks AWESOME, and I will always be thrilled to have such quality workmanship as part of my home.
