HAUGE & HASSAIN INC

The new Milgard Windows and Doors were delivered to Hauge and Hassain. I supplied the project manager with the Milgard General Painting/Cleaning/and Care Instructions and Handling Specifications. I advised the project manager that I was not in a rush and to please take their time to provide a quality job. Our contract read to paint all tops, bottoms, sides, and interiors of the windows and doors. When they delivered the windows and doors to our home, the paint workmanship was terrible and not all sides were painted. Even some of the employees who delivered the windows and doors said the quality was very poor. The windows and doors had so much debris in the painted surfaces that it was as rough as sandpaper. There was overspray all over parts of the windows and doors that were not to be painted. The windows have a very nice exterior finish from the Milgard factory. Also, the doors have the same quality finish from the factory on the exterior and the doors jambs. The specifications I provided read "do not use abrasives to clean the exterior finishes of the doors and windows." The employees used abrasives to clean off the overspray so they damaged the exterior finishes. Hauge and Hassain offered to come into our home to sand and brush the windows and doors after all the windows and doors were installed. They estimated they could accomplish this in approximately 8 hours. Keep in mind that we live in the house. We did not want painters sanding windows and doors in our home which is why we hired them to spray them in their spray booth. After some discussions, we were told to pay the bill in full or they would lien our home by a specific date. We obtained a number of estimates from other reputable painters to sand and brush the windows and doors. The other companies estimated that a much greater time would be necessary to repair the poor workmanship than the 8 hours estimated by Hauge and Hassain. We mailed Hauge and Hassain a payment (before their demand date) less the amount for the damage to the window and door exteriors and jambs. We didn't even deduct the amount to sand and paint the windows and doors. As our check was in the mail to Hauge and Hassain, the owner, Wayne Lennstrom, placed a lien on our home even though they received payment prior to the demand date. They accepted our reduced payment and Wayne removed the lien when he realized they received payment. I will not recommend them to anyone.
