He was super helpful answering a ton of questions and providing quick analysis. I haven't yet received the written report.

Called to make an appointment and promised to come out within a couple days. I told the person when making the appointment that I really didn't need the entire house inspected, nor did I need a formal report. I just had concerns about the minor cracks and needed an opinion as to what to do if anything. I was told the standard inspection would be $400.00.
Engineer showed up on time and spent a total of 15-20 minutes on site. Next day, I was sent a one page letter with a couple paragraphs stating cracks were fine and nothing to worry about.
In all fairness, he charged what was quoted. He did not do anything wrong, misleading or unethical. But there is no question, that this was only a fraction of what a normal inspection would entail both with a physical inspection and report. (I have had other engineers do a full inspection before and have spent at least a couple hours on site inspecting every wall, the roof, foundation, attic etc.)
In my opinion, I was charged too much for the services performed.

John Halas did a great job with designing the plans to the image I had in my mind. The plans were very professional. He was also very good at sending me additional information that I later need, as for the city's request.

I hired John to provide a second home inspection after some disagreement arose between my first inspector and the home seller's contractor about the need to replace certain supporting structures prior to sale. I selected John because of his structural engineering background and NABIE certification. He was punctual and extremely thorough. He walked me through the entire process and gave frequent maintenance tips. John made several recommendations that the first inspector had not and he was very straightforward about the priority of each item on his report. Since the structural components were my main concern with this inspection, I accompanied John when he inspected the crawlspace and the support structures. John was very helpful and explained everything that he was looking at under the house and was clear about which items concerned him and which did not. After John's evaluation I felt absolutely confidant that I had a thorough and accurate understanding of the quality of the house and had no hesitation in making my final decision. I would absolutely use John's services again, whether for another inspection or for future remodeling design.

John did a very thorough and complete measurement of our house. He verified that the work we wanted to do was to code, and was structurally sound. He was very patient with our many questions: My wife and I are very careful and make decisions slowly. John is a pleasure to work with. We'll be sure to use him in the future.

John inspected our home professionally, thoroughly and courteously. We had some follow up questions about crawl space insulation and ventilation because we're unfamiliar with crawl spaces, and John answered them promptly and clearly. Based on our experience with John's inspection of our home, we've decided to have him do the engineering work for our remodeling.

I'm in real estate and Halas Engineering inspects our homes before we sell them. Their employee does the whole gambit in terms of inspection. He's very down to earth. He tells everything how it is without blowing anything up which is very rare in his line of work. He's more knowledgeable than most inspectors. He's also very calm and he doesn't overreact to things. That's important because buying a home can be a stressful process. He explains things in a very simple and understandable way. Our experience with him has always been great.

THE OFFICE STAFF WAS VERY PROMPT IN RETURNING CALLS. THE INSPECTOR AND HIS ASSISTANT WERE VERY THOROUGH. THEY CHECKED EVERY NOOK AND CRANNY INCLUDING GOING UNDER THE HOUSE AND LITERALLY CLIMBING UP ON TOP OF THE HOUSE AS WELL.
