It went beautifully. Refinishing is not a job that can be turned around in a day, if it's done right, and Gabel's did it right. They finished when they said they would, and we are very happy with the table.

They did an excellent job repairing my dux chair that I had for about 50 years ago. They came to pick it up and they delivered it when it was done. I was very impressed that they where able to fix it, I did not think it could be possible. He told me not to glue it or let anyone else glue it. I would say that I would not hesitate to them anything to fix.

Great. Chris gave me an estimate of cost and time and was very reasonable.

Not the fastest or cheapest but they do great work. Really nice individuals as well.

Very professional and great to work with. They did a beautiful job refinishing the couch and consulted with us on every little detail. They have done some previous refinishing work for us and it has been a great experience every time. They are expensive, but in my view it's worth the extra expense to work with someone you know will do a great job. (note that the cost includes the upholstery fabric, which is also expensive)

When I called Gabel's, Chris called me back immediately. He offered to drop by my house to look at the piece the following day. He showed up on schedule, he examined the sideboard, we discussed the work and agreed on a price, and we loaded it on his truck. He said it would take two or three weeks, and mentioned that he was unsure of the schedule because of an employee's illness. About two weeks later, Chris called and said the wood was all stripped and prepared for staining and reassembly, so I visited the shop and discussed the color with him. The work was finished a week later, and Chris brought it back to my house.
The sideboard is beautiful, the color is perfect, and my experience with Gabel's was everything I want when dealing with a service business:* Communication was prompt and clear* The price was fair* The workmanship was excellent* Simple terms, simple logistics, no surprises!* They did all the work (ok, I helped load it on and off the truck, but I didn't have to)

They are more than willing to work with their clients. Because my sofa is vintage, I needed to figure out whether it was worth saving or not. They advised me that was, and they were very informative and helpful. For example, they stored my sofa for about a year while I decided on fabric. I was very happy with both the quality of their work, and their customer service.

The service performed was exceptional from the intial contact to finished product. They picked up the desk, did all the work at their shop, kept me apprised of the work in progress, and were very helpfull in the pick up and shipment to the final destination.

Picked up the frame and all of the paint was gone, leaving me with a smooth, paintable surface - just as Dave described.

We called them, delivered the dresser and told them what we wanted done. They took care of everything, talking to us several times throughout the process. They sent the mirror out to be re-silvered and that delayed the project for a short time, but was not significant. They delivered the dresser when it was finished.

The pride that Gabel's takes in their work was evident in every interaction I had with them. They had me stop in at the shop twice to show me what they had done and to make sure I was happy with the color of the stain. I was fascinated on one of these occasions to watch Chris create a custom mix of stain without measuring anything. He added the pigments one by one until he had just the color he wanted. In the end, he was able to perfectly replicate the color and finish of an authentic Heywood Wakefield piece. That is when I realized these guys are not just craftsmen, they're artists. All of this would be more than enough to deserve an A rating, but in addition, they're some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. I seriously want to buy more furniture just so that I can get it refinished again at Gabel's.

The work was done very professionally and on time. They are a family owned business and very pleasant to deal with. I would highly recommend them.

We have been using Gabel's for over 20 years and they have done an excellent job for us each and every time. They have done beautiful work for my parents and their friends as well. We just picked up our last 2 pieces and they totally surpassed our expectations of what the old chest and cabinet could look like. They resored, repaired and refinished it to a beautiful condition. They have once again done their magic. I always recommend Gabels to my friends and feel that Dave Gabel, Chris and the rest of the team are always there to take care of me and my furniture. Very professional and talented. They wont dissapoint you. You will love what they can do for your furniture.

Dave gave us a tour of the shop, showing us exactly what he would do with the chairs. We were very impressed with his knowledge and obvious passion for his work. Once he had stripped down the chairs, he found that there was more work than anticipated, e.g. he had to painstakingly remove a bunch of old staples. For this he didn't charge us extra. He also found a crumpled copy of a 1913 Cape Times stuffed in one of the chairs and made sure that it was saved and passed on to us. The finished chairs are beautiful -- the restoration allowed us to keep a piece of history.

I found a free coffee table on the street which I originally thought I wanted to refinish myself. But I had guests arriving on the 15th of April and wanted the table done by then. My plan was to have someone else strip the coffee table and then to apply the finish myself. On March 26 I took the table to Gabel's to get an estimate for stripping the table. After Gabel's looked at the table and after discussing the details of what refinishing would entail, I decided to have Gabel's do the whole job. Chris, a very informative salesperson called me in to see the table once it had been stripped and showed me various color options for the final staining of the table. I was very, very pleased with the result. The table has an oil based finish on it so that if water is spilled on the table, the water beads up and as long as it is wiped up quickly and well, there is no harm done to the finish. The table was done in time for guests who arrived at my home on April 15th. I avoided the hassle of refinishing the table myself in my old, cold, 1920's garage. I avoided shopping for and handling and disposing of refinishing products and couldn't be happier that I now have a coffee table that is just right for my living room. And, re-cycling old wood makes me happy. But it is a lot easier to do when you have people at Gabel's do it. Hand stripping wood is time consuming, so I would not like to suggest that every project could be done on such a close timeline as my project. In my case, I was fortunate that Gabel's was able to accommodate me and get the table done in time for my guests. The price quoted for the job was exactly what I was charged and way less than I would have paid for a new coffee table. I was very pleased with the informative salesperson, Chris. One thing I liked was Gabel's doesn't take credit cards, so it's cash or check. That way I took care of it and didn't create any credit card debt for this project.
Response from GABEL'S CUSTOM REFINISHING & UPHOLSTERY
"Thank you so much. I was nice working with you both. I'm pretty sure the legs are walnut on both chairs. Regards Dave G."

We used Gabel’s for two assignments (1) reupholstering two pieces (2) creates cushion for a nook. Dave Gabel visit our house and looked at the furniture. He asvise dus about what was and was not worth reupholstering. What impressed me about him though was his clear love of furniture. We discussed other pieces and it seemed to me (a novice) that he spoke from both knowledge and affection for old pieces.
