FTI is a family owned business that spans two generations. They have been servicing the Greater Puget Sound for over 40 years. They are incredibly efficient, professional, knowledgeable in their field, and just really great at what they do. They offer more than competitive rates and I’ve yet to see them provide a bid that doesn’t beat their competition, often for more work performed. They are honest and fair with every customer and treat them all like family. I’ve used them for all of my oil heat needs, as have many of my friends and neighbors. They are the only company I call for anything oil tank related. I can, and have, very confidently recommend them to anyone who needs oil tank installation, removal, decommissioning, removal or remediation.
Description of Work: In my most recent experience with FTI, Paul, the owner, came out and surveyed my property for the decommissioning of a very old, and currently in service, below ground 550 gallon oil tank. He was incredibly thorough and very informative of how the job would be completed, as well as the risks of not decommissioning the tank and an inevitable failure of the tank. We will soon be having FTI decommission the buried tank, installing an above ground tank to replace it, and plumbing new lines from the new tank to our furnace in the basement. We assessed what would be involved with remediation if and when the underground tank fails, and it just makes sense to proactively address the situation. I’m grateful for Paul and FTI ultimately saving me from a very expensive nightmare situation!

They got back to me via email in a timely and most helpful fashion and when I finally break down and decide to get this done so as to meet the housing code necessary for selling the home, they will be at the top of my list.

Tom actually showed up a day early as he was running ahead of schedule. I headed home because I wanted to see what they would find but he was finished and gone before I got there. So the whole process took less than 1/2 hour.
Description of Work: Decommissioned my old underground oil tank as per regulations. This tank hadn't been used for decades and I knew approximately where it was located but not exactly. The specifications said they would "decommission in place one 300 gallon underground heating oil storage tank including clean out and disposal of water, heating oil and sludge residue, cleaning of tank and permanent closure below grade". This was in the city of Seattle. Price was $350 for the work + $77 for the permit + tax. Certificate is mailed after the invoice is paid.

I felt very intimidated about tackling this. Was worried about what had/or might have happened, over the years. Laurie from Angie's List sent me 3 companies names. One was far away, another (Budget Tank Removal) had several BBB complaints. I called Filco & someone came out. The written estimate came weeks later, was for $125 hour to dig down & verify length of tank, to give an estimate. The Filco person kept checking to the south of the fuel opening. The tank was to the north. Tom, found it in about 15 seconds. During the job, he kept me appraised of what they found, etc. You will be pleased with Tom & his assistant. Please continue to do this great work for many years!
Description of Work: Contractor arrived with assistant in truck with tank. He found where tank was & they removed grass & sod then dug out all first above tank. They pumped out lots of liquid, water & fuel. Cut off entire top of tank. Rinsed it out. Filled it with sand, replaced top, taking off opening from tank. Covered it with dirt & the sod pieces. It was all interesting to me, as I had never seen anything like it, before. I signed the paper work, which they sent to the fire department. They mailed official notice to me, when they received it.
