It went really well. Even though they'd had most of their tools stolen from their truck last night, they showed up on time and were very pleasant. Three guys showed - they were training. But the price remained the same. Actually, they gave me a break on the price because it didn't take a long to find/resolve the problem as they'd expected. Dave had me demonstrate the problem and, looking around, identified what he thought might be the culprit. He was right. While his team was investigating, he installed some really high light bulbs for me. Together, they removed some problem light fixtures from the circuit which fixed the immediate problem. (Those light fixtures are outdoors, not well protected from the elements, and 20 years old. And not installed by him or his company. They had every right to fail and it's not his fault.) Dave noticed they were tracking in leaves as they and insisted on sweeping up after they were done even though those were not the only leaves that were in my foyer.

Mr. Style with Mr. Sparky was punctual, professional, friendly, and he explained the process to me. (I have no knowlwdege of electricity). He installed the panel, box, meter and did all the wiring then got it inspected. I am going to use this company later when I raise the cash to do a full re-wiring of the house

Style Voir is a really good electrician and a nice guy too boot. He was kind enough to do this job the same day we called. He actually stopped at our house on his way home from work. After inspecting the damaged wiring, he explained what needed to be done and why, which I really appreciated. He did the work quickly and professionally. I will most certainly use him again.

The technician was very professional, prompt and courteous.  Unfortunately, the quote was very high, over $800, and so I decided not to use their services further.   Because their are two lights in the bedroom, coming off one circuit, the technician explained that a second circuit would have to be added in order to have the fan and 2nd light operate independent of each other.

The quote seemed to be very high, but I don't know how that compares with other companies.

I am ignorant I guess to the cost of electrical work these days. Was SHOCKED that installing a ceiling fan could cost so much. But....we needed the work done and now I know how long I have to save in order to get these kinds of things taken care of. Perhaps that goes along with being a first time homeowner? Or maybe never needing an electrician might have something to do with it. I guess there is a lot to be said for being a renter for many, many years!
Style came out and did the install for us. The work was done on one of the hottest days we've had in Washington state in quite a while and due to some issues with the place where the fan was going to go, had to go in to the attic more than once. Felt terrible for him. But he was a pro and did a GREAT job.  He also looked at  installing some lights in/on our garage and took a look at our electrical panel.  He was pretty adamant that the panel be replaced sooner than later and promised to send us a written estimate (He gave us some numbers verbally but that was all) for the cost of replacement install - haven't heard a word since.  :(  With that said, we are currently looking for other folks to to provide us with bids for the job.
Response from Flash Electric
"I was not on site and do not know the details of the job, but knowing that he assembled, installed and balanced a fan in a location where there was previously not a fan in addition to correcting some wiring from the attic, I would say that $400 was more than a fair price for the job. I hope your other projects go as expected. Thank you for giving us the opportunity."

I bought the $299 for $99 special promotion.  The deal stated that they had a $59 trip charge which was fine.  What the special didn't disclose was that they have a standard fee to diagnose the problem which was $224.  I provided details of the work to be performed before they came out so they knew what to expect.

I had previously had another electrical company come out to work on the electrical switch and knew what had been done but that company refused to complete the work because of bees in the attic.  I called Mr. Sparky to complete the work after the bees were gone.  I didn't need a diagnosis performed, we knew what work was required and I told them before they came.

Basically, the $299 promotional value is used up as soon as they step foot in the door before they do any work. I felt ripped off by their promotion.

Their diagnosis time lasted approximately 10 minutes which included going upstairs, climbing up into the attic and looking at the connection. Pretty steep fee for 10 minutes worth of looking at a situation I had already told them about.

I called their office to try to discuss the matter with them while the technician was here but only got through to their answering service.  Their manager returned my call after the technician had left my home and explained that a diagnoses charge is standard industry procedure to ensure that they meet code with any potential work that needs done and that is was a safety issue for their clients.

After explaining my displeasure with the way the promotion was worded, the manager offered to refund the diagnoses fee so the actual cost ended up being $200. She felt frustrated by the Angie's List promo requirements as well. I appreciated their willingness to address the problem with the Angie's list Promo and was satisfied with their work.

The actual work performed was done well and their contractor was professional and helpful.  He was not the problem, the company promotion and undisclosed standard procedure is the problem.  I learned a lesson from them, next time I hire a contractor, I'll ask about "diagnoses fees" up front.

Response from Flash Electric
"Honestly the problem was the type of work you were hoping to have done with the promo. When something is not working we HAVE to do our own diagnosis to ensure that the repair we perform is adequate. We offer warranties and guarantees unlike many others in our industry. I am very disappointed with this review being that you bought the promo unsolicited by us, and you received a refund when you voiced your dissatisfaction. You were given prices before any work was started. And you chose to proceed. You state the work was done to your standards but you were simply unhappy with the price. Even after it was refunded? Oh vey, I don't know what else we could have done to earn a favorable review."

The guy's first name was Style, he was very knowledgeable and professional, was able to advise me on the most prudent/cost-efficient/energy-efficient way to add some heaters to my home, which ended up being a combo of using existing in wall heaters and purchasing a few convection heaters that Style then installed.  He saved me money in a few different ways throughout the process.  He was always on time, very communicative, and he finished the work faster than estimated.  His attention to detail was impressive.  I'd definitely use him again.

Also electricians these days  are either extremely well paid or they are super busy.  COuldn't get anyone to come out to my house on Friday before Easter without having to pay weekend holiday rates Ugh.  Also the earliest appt was Tuesday to do the standard rates.  A major pain in that I had no outlets in the kitchen.  Even had the refrig on an extension cord!
Cory was very nice.  Pleasant guy to work with.  He seemed honest and sympathetic .  He gave me some good advice .  I will  call them again.  One thing with electrical companies is that they don't want to tell your price before looking at the job.  This companys office recept could not even tell me what their hourly rate would be - weird!  OH, I mentioned Angie's list when I called but forgot after Cory did his work.  So I called the office and they said they would figure something out.  Will wait to see about this
