The technician was very professional, prompt and courteous. Unfortunately, the quote was very high, over $800, and so I decided not to use their services further. Because their are two lights in the bedroom, coming off one circuit, the technician explained that a second circuit would have to be added in order to have the fan and 2nd light operate independent of each other.
The quote seemed to be very high, but I don't know how that compares with other companies.
Style came out and did the install for us. The work was done on one of the hottest days we've had in Washington state in quite a while and due to some issues with the place where the fan was going to go, had to go in to the attic more than once. Felt terrible for him. But he was a pro and did a GREAT job. He also looked at installing some lights in/on our garage and took a look at our electrical panel. He was pretty adamant that the panel be replaced sooner than later and promised to send us a written estimate (He gave us some numbers verbally but that was all) for the cost of replacement install - haven't heard a word since. :( With that said, we are currently looking for other folks to to provide us with bids for the job.
"I was not on site and do not know the details of the job, but knowing that he assembled, installed and balanced a fan in a location where there was previously not a fan in addition to correcting some wiring from the attic, I would say that $400 was more than a fair price for the job. I hope your other projects go as expected. Thank you for giving us the opportunity."
I bought the $299 for $99 special promotion. The deal stated that they had a $59 trip charge which was fine. What the special didn't disclose was that they have a standard fee to diagnose the problem which was $224. I provided details of the work to be performed before they came out so they knew what to expect.
I had previously had another electrical company come out to work on the electrical switch and knew what had been done but that company refused to complete the work because of bees in the attic. I called Mr. Sparky to complete the work after the bees were gone. I didn't need a diagnosis performed, we knew what work was required and I told them before they came.
Basically, the $299 promotional value is used up as soon as they step foot in the door before they do any work. I felt ripped off by their promotion.
Their diagnosis time lasted approximately 10 minutes which included going upstairs, climbing up into the attic and looking at the connection. Pretty steep fee for 10 minutes worth of looking at a situation I had already told them about.
I called their office to try to discuss the matter with them while the technician was here but only got through to their answering service. Their manager returned my call after the technician had left my home and explained that a diagnoses charge is standard industry procedure to ensure that they meet code with any potential work that needs done and that is was a safety issue for their clients.
After explaining my displeasure with the way the promotion was worded, the manager offered to refund the diagnoses fee so the actual cost ended up being $200. She felt frustrated by the Angie's List promo requirements as well. I appreciated their willingness to address the problem with the Angie's list Promo and was satisfied with their work.
The actual work performed was done well and their contractor was professional and helpful. He was not the problem, the company promotion and undisclosed standard procedure is the problem. I learned a lesson from them, next time I hire a contractor, I'll ask about "diagnoses fees" up front.
"Honestly the problem was the type of work you were hoping to have done with the promo. When something is not working we HAVE to do our own diagnosis to ensure that the repair we perform is adequate. We offer warranties and guarantees unlike many others in our industry. I am very disappointed with this review being that you bought the promo unsolicited by us, and you received a refund when you voiced your dissatisfaction. You were given prices before any work was started. And you chose to proceed. You state the work was done to your standards but you were simply unhappy with the price. Even after it was refunded? Oh vey, I don't know what else we could have done to earn a favorable review."
"Thank you for your favorable review. It was our pleasure."
Cory was very nice. Pleasant guy to work with. He seemed honest and sympathetic . He gave me some good advice . I will call them again. One thing with electrical companies is that they don't want to tell your price before looking at the job. This companys office recept could not even tell me what their hourly rate would be - weird! OH, I mentioned Angie's list when I called but forgot after Cory did his work. So I called the office and they said they would figure something out. Will wait to see about this
