"Hi [Member Name Removed], I'm sorry to hear that there were some mishaps during the project. Please contact me if the lawn is still in need of some repair and we'll get that fixed up for you. Thanks, Nate 206-423-1791"
We decided to decommission in place, using sand. The next week, we were out of town on vacation when our house-sitter called to say that someone was in the yard "with sand". I called Filco and explained that we hadn't in fact been told that they would be coming out, and if we had been told then we would have asked them to reschedule. They apologized. We went ahead with the work while we were gone, even though if something had gone wrong we wouldn't have been able to do much. When we returned home, the fill cap and the vent were gone and the sod had been dug up and then re-placed. (It doesn't look like the sod will be re-growing, which is unfortunate.) We are happy with the work overall, and Filco was responsive, but we were unhappy with the fact that they scheduled the work without actually checking with us.
The company doing the work is probably most interested in the work the state pays for if they find contaminated soil-- and probably would have reduce the price to me had I known to negotiate for a lower price up front. My fixed cost was $700 or so; the state ended up paying several thousand for additional work needed.
