Brian and his crew are incredibly thorough - were very respectful the property-cleaning up after each task and making sure that everything was done according to the schedule. As an old house (built in 1903) a lot of work was needed. He took the kitchen down to the studs, took down the wall and put in beam and stud support, replaced old electric wiring for much better lighting, put in insulation, painted, installed new cabinets, plumbing fixtures, appliances, tile work and coordinated the installation of the flooring and the quartz countertop. All this work was done from October 1st to early December. Very efficient and wonderful workmanship. II had a good plan and that helped Brian give me a detailed estimate of the work to be done and the time it would take. I would recommend Cobalt Construction to anyone looking for a conscientious contractor who will deliver the quality.
Description of Work: Took down a wall between the kitchen and dining room and opened up the space - creating a bar and room for more kitchen storage and much better lighting.

Cobalt was professional, responsive, and really easy to work with. Brian has a great eye and is extremely helpful. The project was timely - only delayed because we kept adding or tweaking things. He was helpful by suggesting items we could buy to save ourselves money. He was very up front about costs and stayed on budget. His subs were great. When items weren't done perfectly, Brian personally made sure they were re-done. Great experience!!!
Description of Work: Cobalt took our upstairs down to the studs and added a bathroom to a master bedroom. They painted the house, added insulation, and took care of 100 little things.

Its going great so far. They're super helpful. They give great practical advice. It didn't seem as if they were pushing for business. It took them about an half hour to complete the estimate. We were attracted to the reviews because we saw they seemed to be very friendly and helpful. I would tell friends and family to expect attention to detail, as well as good recommendations based on local weather. There has been nothing to dislike so far.
Description of Work: They came out for an estimate.

Brian was flexible, a perfectionist, a great communicator, and put together an amazing new bathroom for me. He thought of (and communicated) every detail, including an idea to install an electrical outlet inside the vanity for the blow dryer, and the best access to the plumbing for a tight crawl space, He is a true craftsman, incredibly organized, and was very reassuring to a first-time remodeler. If all home projects went as smoothly as this one with Brian, I'm ready to remodel my entire house. My tile job was pretty complex and he worked closely with my designer on every detail to make sure that it was implemented exactly as specced. Even though he works on high-end homes, he was great with my smaller job. And he was also patient with my cost-consciousness, gave me choices that fit within my budget, and worked with the materials that I purchased and supplied ahead of time, including the fixtures, tile, vanity, and bathtub. His utmost concern was my satisfaction with the finished product and making sure I was thrilled with the results (which I am). He's reliable and honest, very personable and easy to talk to, and instills a sense of trust that the work will be done right. His crew was very hard working and conscientious and responsive, and communicated with me effectively, even when Brian wasn't onsite. They were very careful with my home and cleaned up and treated my home like it was their own.

If you are fortunate enough to hire Brian and Cobalt Construction then you are in very good and experienced hands. Brian only knows one way to do something and that is to do it right. He is a very experienced, honest and knowledgeable contractor. My project had some quirky original framing elements which could have challenged a less experienced contractor but Brian and his team handled all challenges easily. I can't say enough what a beautiful job they did. He had the right solution for every challenge. For instance, we have an original outside planter in the front which is now above the interior of the newly created garage. This 50+year old planter had to be waterproofed. No problem. Brian had the right sub to rebuild and waterproof while he designed, had fabricated and then installed metal flashing and trim (before it was just wood trim around old galvanized boxes). It looks beautiful and no worries about water intrusion. And it didn't cost that much to do. There was not one part of the overall remodel that Brian and his team could not handle. Besides a good sense for function, he also has a good sense of design. He made a couple of suggestions that really improved our project. Glad we listened. And speaking of listening, my wife and I found Brian to be a very good listener. Not once did he forget something we told him or forget to do something he said he was going to do. Not once. The team is easy to work with and reasonably priced. They work fast, clean up each day and have pleasant positive attitudes. All good people. And so were the subs he uses. All the subs were superior tradesmen. Everyone knew their stuff and did superior work. Cobalt has it together. You can trust these people. I feel very fortunate that I found Brian and Cobalt. He provided a superior product at a reasonable price. I'd use them again in a second.
Description of Work: This was an extensive remodel of a 1957 2600 sq. foot house. My house. The remodel involved quite a bit of demolition along with a total rewire and total replumbing. The daylight /walk out basement was totally demolished on the inside. 80% of the pad was removed, new plumbing was installed, a new pad poured and then the basement reconfigured with a new bath, new laudryroom and large sliding door to a back yard patio. Big changes and a big difference especially with the spray foam insulation directly on the foundation. The basement functions so much better and is beautiful. The house is on a hillside and most people don't even realize that they are in a basement because the living area and bedroom are on the two sides that have large windows and a large sliding door. Cobalt reframed the basement to accommodate the insulation and framed the ceiling so sound would not migrate to the upstairs. We gave up a little width and height but well worth it. We essentially created a MIL apartment by adding a kitchette. We even did a modern gas insert with ledge tile. About 80% of the upstairs was demolished down to the studs. We added just a little square footage with a push out in order to reconfigure the kitchen and also captured a hall bath in order to create a deluxe master bath from an very small 3/4 bath. The three bedrooms upstairs were left in the existing configuration but of course received new wiring, lighting, closet doors, etc. In fact, all doors, windows and trim are new. Besides the master bath (tiled pan shower with glass on two sides, drop in tub, two sinks, separate water closet), we also added a full hall bath, small laundry closet and new kitchen. The house originally had a carport which we converted into a double car garage with a new pad. Cobalt suggested adding eye level horizonal windows in the garage towards the view and that was simply brilliant. We get great light, a little view and still have plenty of useful wall space. We also revamped an existing large deck off of the kitchen. The existing deck was cedar 2x4 slats. The one and only original door (before we added the large slider) from the basement to the outside opened to an area under the deck. We kept that door opening (we have two doors to the outside from the basement) and of course when it rained the water would drip while you were coming and going. So, we decided to do a water impervious covering on the deck and add a stairway from the deck to the backyard patio. Glad we did. It functions perfectly and now we have about 350 sq. feet of dry space under the deck. There were a bunch of addtional things we did such as gutters, flashing, two skylights, etc. GBif project with superb results.

Brian and his crew do amazingly beautiful work very efficiently. He worked easily with the architect’s plans and attended to every detail so that there were no surprises and the finished product was more than we hoped for. They always showed up when they said they would and completed the work in a timely fashion. We chose to update our kitchen to retain most of the cabinets and 40’s style and Brian happily worked with us to find the best and sometimes innovative solutions. The arbored carport was done in clear cedar lumber left unpainted so it was critical the all the joinery be perfect - which it is. We have referred Cobalt Construction to many clients, and they all thank us, commenting on the quality of Brian's work, the punctuality of his crew, how tidy he keeps the work area - his crew is respectful of the property and cleans up at the end of the workday - and maybe the most important thing is that his estimates are for real; he won't lowball you to get the job, and he doesn't come back with add-ons to the price, there are no hidden surprises with Cobalt Construction. Our clients have used Cobalt for small jobs, kitchen and bath remodels, second-story additions, and a spectacular basement remodel which involved digging down for more ceiling height. They work seamlessly with architects and are easy to have in your home.
Description of Work: We hired Cobalt Construction to do a kitchen remodel, creating a new cabinet for the microwave, and removing a cabinet to allow for the installation of a dish washer. We also wanted to install new countertops, flooring and light fixtures. Then, we wanted to do a remodel on the second floor, turning one bedroom into a master suite, requiring a dormer addition/expansion of a half bath to a full bath with all new fixtures, flooring, tile shower surround and window and installing new closets in the master suite and two skylights in two bedrooms. We also needed a new roof and wanted an arbored carport.

I've had Brian do a half-dozed projects for me before, and have always been very satisfied with his work. I was again this time. He knows his stuff and does excellent work in a timely manner, at a very fair price.
Description of Work: I hired Brian to help me mount a new 52" LCD TV on my living room wall, using a wall mount I had ordered. In particular, I wanted his help because my new condominium is all steel-and-concrete construction, and I've never drilled into a metal stud before.

Everything was great. They were always very prompt, and courteous. They cleaned up very well after themselves, and they are very responsive. They always let us know ahead of time that something else was wrong and asked if we wanted to fix it. They were just all around wonderful people to work with.

Our job was completed on schedule, on bid, and without any surprises. Brian Tschider is unfailingly honest and fair. He and his crew are also extremely professional. They kept the work area as neat as possible, they kept regular hours, and were incredibly responsive. We always felt like Brian had our best interests at heart, and that we were working as a team to get to a result we would all be proud of. Brian's attention to detail and his commitment to quality are extraordinary. It was very important to us that the new work be aesthetically in keeping with the Craftsman-era details of the rest of our house, and Brian made this happen. This was a very big job; Brian and his crew were here for six months, and we had ample opportunity to observe because we lived in the house the entire time. We were so pleased with the result that we now consider Cobalt Construction to be ''our'' contractor--whenever we need anything done on our house, we will call on Brian.
Description of Work: Cobalt Construction completed a major remodel at our 1919 Craftsman bungalow. We went from a completely unfinished, cold, spidery basement accessed by a very steep stairway to a code-compliant, beautiful, usable space, with clean and dry storage, 3/4 bath, laundry area, media room, sun-filled yoga room, and french doors opening out to a large sunken patio. In the process, Cobalt also performed seismic retrofitting throughout. The job also included, at no extra charge, replacing the main support beams for the house (which had some minor moisture damage which is not surprising after 85+ years), repairing the cracks in the plaster upstairs that opened up as a result of all the work being done downstairs (inevitable in an old house), and planing the upstairs doors that no longer fit for the same reason. The ''as long as you're here'' tasks included repairing locks on the garage and front doors, some fencing, replacing some missing exterior trim and adding some needed insulation.
