The initial visit went well. We went through every item and put it in 3 catagories: goes to his shop, goes to estate sale or gets donated. He assured my sister and I that everything would be organized and dealt with. We took the donation items to the Goodwill . The next time he came, he started cherry picking items for the estate sale. He told us that he never said that he would take everything to sell . Eventually, we got everything inventoried. He came to take the stuff to the estate sale. He charged us for the transport of the goods to the sale. Which we agreed to. At the estate sale, many of the items we paid for transporting were not ever put out for sale. Many of the people at the sale were other antique dealers. I think that he lowballed prices-a victorian umbrella with an ebony with sterling silver overlay handle went for $9. I understand that sometimes we overvalue our own stuff, but this was ridiculous. He told my sister that the hand carved 6 panel coromandel Chinese screen was worth $100. He said that those were used to block off construction sites! We finally went down to his shop to pick up the unsold items. We found 7 to 8 valuable items made of silver etc. which were not ours. We gave them back to him. I feel bad for the person who is missing the items. I would give Brad very poor marks for professionalism. He made uncalled for remarks about items he didn't personally like. He charged us for transport of goods that were never put in the sale. He was careless about mixing up peoples items. He underpriced items. His fellow dealers got some good deals at our expense. The sale netted $3000.00. Of that my sister and I got $1000.
Description of Work: Brad was suppose to appraise our estate items and either put them in his shop on consignment or put them in an estate sale. He charged us for his appraising time by the hour. That is fair. He charged us 30%commission on all items sold. This is the going rate. He charged us a percentage of the advertising for the item. He charged us for transporting items to the sale. At the end of the sale we decided that we wanted the unsold items back.
