"Hi [Member Name Removed]. We appreciate the positive feedback. It appears you accidentally rated us an F on all of our qualities. We appreciate your long-time support and business. Thanks! -Bulger Family"
"Glad we were able to help and save you money at the same time. Thanks for the business!"
Diagnosis: my standard ordinary lock not repairable. No replacement lock in truck. Need to find a lock somewhere myself or repairmen will put something into existing lock to turn it into a decoration only! I am not making this up.
Later repairman finds a lock in truck. Cheap looking, flimsy and ugly. Turned out later not to have a brand name or guarantee.
But I told him to install it anyway because I was stuck with it. Then I checked it. (He hadn't). Did not work. Frozen. After this was fixed, by his partner, I checked the key. It didn't work either. Partner blamed my key, which had worked with old lock! Able to persuade him to fix it so it would work in this lock too.
Asked for senior discount and repairman agreed.
Presented with bill for $241.00! Later noticed no senior discount given. (the frosting). Charges - $40.00 for lock, $40.00 to key it, $100.00 for 2 mile RT, rest for time. Next morning checked locks at Fred Meyer and Ace Hardware. Lock installed looked like $10.00 locks in both stores, but they had guarantees and brand names. FYI - Ace charges $7.00 to key a lock when you buy one. Great to know!
Visited owner at Bulger. He felt charge was reasonable!! Agreed to substitute another better quality lock. Later this turned
out to have no guarantee either. I called him to get brand name (needed if a part were ever necessary). He gave me a written guarantee for work and materials for one year. Normal guarantee is 60 days for work only with this company.
I appreciate effort to modify situation. I had put stop payment on check. That probably helped.
I spent two days on this and lost a night's sleep in addition to astonishing cost! This should have been a 30 minute job door to door for the company, since it is rated as excellent.
I have had lock work in the past and have never had anything like this experience or cost, even on emergency calls, which this wasn't. An apology at least would have helped.
"I am sorry you had a less-than-perfect experience with us and you did not receive your discount. If you would like to swing by our shop I would be happy to put a $10 credit back on your credit card and make you a couple extra keys for your troubles. You can ask for Jeff Bulger when you come into the shop. Thank you for the business and once again apologize for the misunderstanding."
