Built Square

The price was based on a fixed price bid with allowances for the fixtures and electrical work; the final price was within budget. Nathan and Jeff were friendly, honest, and easy to work with. They developed a plan consistent with our design ideas and accommodated multiple changes throughout the project. Jeff, the project superintendent, met with us weekly and did a good job of explaining what had happened since the last meeting and what to expect for the coming week. He also explained the cost implications of any decisions we were asked to make.

Working with Built Square was an excellent experience. Our job was big (6-months long) and finished on-time and on-budget, with the exception of additions we deliberately made during the build. Nathan was extremely organized, patient, and fun to work with. Nathan has a system that works well for him and for his clients: we had a standing meeting once per week, he brought a printed agenda, and was extremely organized about what we needed to cover during that meeting. He was always prepared and patient with explanations. Any issues that needed to be addressed between meetings were dealt with if truly urgent, but otherwise we went through everything once each week. This system really allowed us to keep our sanity during the entire remodel process. Both my husband and I worked at home throughout the process, which we thought would be a nightmare, but was actually really doable. Nathan was very conscious of any issues that might arise doing such a big remodel with the homeowners living and working in the space for the entire project. Enrique, who was the lead on the site every day, did a truly fantastic job. He showed up on time, was patient with explanations when we asked for them, asked questions as needed but kept them to a minimum, and was kind and warm with our dog and our daughter. And his work was impeccable. Enrique was basically like another member of our household during the week for 6 months and we couldn't have asked for anyone better. Overall, we are thrilled with the job that Nathan and Enrique did and can't imagine it having gone better. We look forward to working with Built Square again on any future projects and recommend them without hesitation!

Nathan is an especially attentive contractor, passionate about his work. My impression is that he is a notch above the typical contractor. He has more education, and it really shows when working with him. He was flexible, and transparent about business matters. Two years after the project was completed, we have had only one problem (early on). No problems since then. Nathan came out immediately when we had the problem, which, as it turned out, we did not need to take action on. In the project definition, and throughout the project, Nathan had excellent advice for us. But he also gracefully deferred to preferences when we disagreed with his advice. We needed to do some things fairly economically, and he was very willing to work on keeping costs down. He also threw in a lot of little but significant improvements and adaptations for no additional charge. Our house was built in 1902, with crazy remodeling done, probably in the '40's. The basement is a nightmare of odd angles, bizarre ductwork, cobbled-together and inexplicable structures. He and his crew put everything together like an intricate puzzle to make it look smartly finished. We would not hesitate to hire Built Square again.

This was the second time we had used Built Square.  The work went very smoothly and it seemed to be completed exactly on schedule.  We ere able to communicate with the workmen (spoke English). Built Square had weekly in person conferences with us which included resolution of problems and ideas about  quality and how to keep costs down and/or where we might spend extra.
For instance, custom cabinetry in the main bath was a  real plus and looks perfect at only a minor cost increase.  Work areas were kept clean and dust free as possible.  They were very considerate about keeping our animals (2 dogs and 2 cats) safe and secure.
 Their confidence, responsiveness, and professionalism were reassuring to us.  They may not be the least expensive, but if you want quality work at an appropriate cost, Built Square is an excellent choice.

The quality of the work was great! The communication from the lead on the project was awesome. He worked with us to make sure we didn't go over budget.

We are extremely pleased with the result. The workmanship is high quality, with good focus on details. Our contractor was incredibly organized. He was great guiding us and keeping the various parties on track. Everyone who did work on the condo was nice and professional. Our neighbors directly next door and beneath us had no complaints (noise or otherwise) throughout the process.

The process, work and relationship was excellent. Great ideas during the specification and design, excellent performance and very fair treatment as far as change orders required to achieve the original goals of the remodel. They brought in very good subs, from the architect to the electrical and heating contractor. We plan to have Built Square back for a phase II in the future.

Everything was great.  The job took approximately 2 months. The footprint of the kitchen remained the same, and had new cabinets and countertops and sink put in. The bathroom was broken down to the studs. We worked with Nathan, one of the two owners of Built Square. Nathan, his team, and all the subcontractors were professional, did high quality work, and were highly responsive to any concerns we had.  We met weekly with Nathan--he would bring us up to speed on the week ahead and we would give him feedback on the previous week.  We were never, ever left hanging and worrying about what was going on with the job. I think probably we could have gotten the job done for less expense, but, for me, the lack of worry and knowing that the work was of the highest quality made up for spending the extra money. We've been living with the remodel now for a couple of months.  Nothing has gone wrong, and we continue to be very happy with all the work that was done.

Divven and his entire crew were very courteous,professional and punctual at all times. They brought the project in on time and under budget. Because we remolded the complete condo scheduling was very important and Divven was always there every day and always a vailable. The finished product exceeded our expectations. I would highly recommend Built Square for you next project.

We could not have been more pleased with the work done by Divven, Tom and the rest of the Built Square team.  Although we received bids from a number of different contractors (many of whom gave us lower estimates), Built Square was head and shoulders above them in terms of professionalism, experience, and vision for the space.  Divven clearly has an artist's perspective on design, and he gave us some fantastic suggestions and insight when we were making design decisions.  The finished product was much more aesthetically pleasing and functional, thanks to his input.  Divven and Tom were also very professional and easy to work with.  They worked extremely hard to finish the project in a timely manner, including working odd hours, and always kept us updated on their progress.  They are also both extremely nice and thoughtful.  Among other things, they helped me move some furniture that I could not move myself.  I would absolutely use Built Square for any other remodeling or construction projects, and would highly recommend them to anyone else.

I was moving out of state for a new job and needed to do some work on the house to prep it for sale.  I found Built Square on Angies List, checked them out online and gave them a call.  I worked directly with Divven, one of the owners.  He was a great help working with me to develop an appropriate scope of work for my needs and the money I was willing to spend.  He drew on his contacts to provide interior design advice for the best paint colors and combinations.  He also brought in someone to help advise on redoing wood floors or reinstalling carpeting.  All of the decisions that Divven helped me to make turned out to be absolutely the correct ones.  It is easy to see afterwards but hard to know while making those decisions.
The great difficulty in all of this was that I would already be out of town in my new location while all the work was done.  So, I had to depend on Divven's honesty and the help of my cousin to swing by occasionally to take a look.  No problems came out of this at all.  Divven proved to be very straightforward, pleasant, and honest to work with.  He was always reachable and in fact I never had to call him, except to call him back.  He called me several times a week and sent me photos of the work in progress.  We left a few decisions to make during the work after things were uncovered during demolition or what not.  He was always of great help and readily provided costs for each option I asked for and lived by them.
Before having the work done my realtor wanted to list my house at about $300,000.  After the work she looked around and decided we should list at $370,000!  The house unfortunately went on the market right after the new year on the weekend when Seattle had a snowstorm.  As a result the open house had few visitors but it quickly gathered multiple offers to work with.  I sold the house near enough to the asking price to be thrilled and was done in less than a month.
I highly recommend Built Square and Divven and would definitely use him again.

Nathan, Divven, and crew were great to work with during our kitchen remodel.  Throughout the process we had clear understanding of scheduling, dependencies, and open issues.
Drywall and cabinet work were high quality and phases of work were typically completed ahead of schedule.  During an unforeseen multi-week break due to cabinet delays, Built Square rolled with the punches and kept things moving where they could.  Nathan had a good understanding of the "look" we were going for and recommended materials/techniques appropriately.

Divven and his crew were professional during the entire process.  His communication with us during the remodel was clear and regular.  While it was sometimes difficult to understand what individual parts of the remodel would cost (and how changing something would raise or lower the price), ultimately he completed the job for the price he estimated.  For a field that is somewhat notorious for providers that don't do what they say they will do for the price they estimate, Built Square is refreshingly professional.

Divven and his team were excellent to work with. From our design to execution they were professional and communicative. When a leak was discovered weeks after work was complete they came out immediately to fix and repair the damage.
There pricing was not the cheapest nor more expensive of the bids we got for our project but Divven's passion, attention to detail, and professionalism were the reasons we chose to work with them and would do so again in heartbeat.

The overall project went extremely well.  The work started with the electrical. I needed cable to be moved from one wall to another and then added to three rooms.  This was difficult as this is an old house, three stories and walls are plaster.  It all went without a hitch.

Next was the washlet.  I wanted a bidet placed in the bathroom and, again there were no problems.  Nathan found the washlet that I explained I wanted, he purchased it and it was installed.

Finally,the tiling of the room was done.  Nathan tried hard to stay within my budget.  He told me what the price range should for my tile, and my glass block window.  I found exactly what I wanted.  The tile was installed with a very nice pattern.  The window looks great.Then all the patching and painting was done.

Overall, the experience was great. When they did our master bath, there was a mistake on the order for the vanities. There must've been some miscommunication, but Built Square just took the incorrect vanities and ordered the new ones at no cost to us. They kept the deadline anyway, even with the delay in the vanities (they just worked later during the day). I was impressed.  Their price was reasonable for the quality and amount of work. I’ve recommended them to friends.

The pricing was very reasonable.  They offered very many useful suggestions right from the beginning.  They were incredibly professional and knowledgeable.  There were a couple of minor problems with their communication, but in general I was very satisfied.

It turned out well and I’d recommend them to others.

The entire process was excellent, from start to finish. The contract terms, financial terms and work completed all met with our satisfaction. The end result is a space we love to use for everyday living and entertaining. We would be delighted to provide additional references. We would not hesitate to use Built Square again!

They were very flexible and helpful throughout the process. Quality of work was good, and besides a few minor scheduling issues they were prompt and professional. We had a few minor details we asked them to clean up afterwards, and they did so rapidly.

Built Square has been very responsive and cooperative. The only things I do not like are things that are our of their control, just bumps here and there in the remodeling. In general, I like their suggestions for improving my original requirements. Their price was in the same ballpark as the other 2 bids I got for this job.

Things went pretty well. We gave them a pretty tight schedule, because we wanted it done before we moved in, and they came close. Their communication was really good and they were nice and professional. The owner was very hands on.
