Ballard Muffler & Radiator

They put ,my car up on the rack, checked everything, said everything was ok with muffler, the said lets take a ride so I can hear the rattle.  We drove around- he heard the noise -- said it might be something loose in the battery case--, but no tailpipe muffler problems, I asked how much do I owe you-  He said--- NO CHARGE! A thoughtful and  knowledgeable mechanic! Highly recommended.

I called on Thursday thought he was open on Friday.  I made a confirmation phone call but no answer and his answering machine was full up.  I went anyway, and he was closed with no explanation.  I almost gave up but called today and talked to the shop person (they don't have a receptionist and if their phone messages are full, that's it).  I gave it some thought and considered that lots of people call and leave messages and there was even a hand-written note taped to the door to call if the shop opens up.  He's popular and rated 5 star on another rating service too.
On a verbal OK, I agreed to the price, took a walk and within the hour the job was done.
This is definitely not a fancy place and it may put you off at first, but it   seems on the up and up.  Bring your own coffee or sit in the coffee shop a short walk south on 15th Ave--or better yet, in the fancy brand-name shop down the street!

One of the dual exhaust pipes on my 1991 Honda Prelude fell out. I found Ballard Muffler here. The manager explained that I had two options: replace the muffler immediately with a stock single-pipe, or have him order one with dual pipes. I chose the latter, but I readily agreed to leave the car overnight and bus home. He called the next afternoon and I picked the car upo. They actually waited 15 minutes past their posted closing time because the buses were late. Perfect replacement!

My '86 Jetta started rumbling at a deafening volume as I drove home on Aurora one day. Fearing the worst, I let it sit for a week until I calmed down and started looking for muffler shops. Good reviews led me to Ballard Muffler, and I called them up. He told me to come in immediately for service. I drove my roaring Jetta from Fremont to Ballard, and within 5 minutes the car was up and I could see the problem. The middle joint of my exhaust pipe had snapped clean in two.
He quoted me an hour to an hour and a half. I watched as he finished up with the previous customer and got to work on mine. I'm glad a brought a book, but as it turns out, I didn't really need it. The entire repair was done in about 45 minutes and overall I only had to spend about an hour there. Truly amazing, no-nonsense, affordable service. I would go here again in a heartbeat with any other muffler/radiator/brake problems.

No frills replacement of my muffler for a 92 Ford Explorer, but who wants frills with a muffler? Other quotes were ranged from $350 to $200, I feel like I got a pretty good deal. They don't try and upsell you on any additional piping, welding, fitting, etc. Universal muffler was installed and welded. It was done in 30 minutes and I was on my way.

Quickly provided a quote over the phone. Quote was about $100 less than what a major chain quoted for the same job. Scheduled an appointment the next day. Took it in right when I arrived. Provided a final quote before starting the work. Finished quickly. Quality of work appears to be fine. No hassles or surprises. "B" for quality only because it was a basic welded pipe installation that just about every muffler shop would do. Quality totally as expected and paid for, just not exceptional like all the other categories.

I FELT THAT THEY WORKED VERY QUICKLY AND I APPRECIATED THAT. THEY WERE NOT EXTREMELY FRIENDLY BUT WERE EFFICIENT. THEY WOULD ONLY TAKE CASH OR CHECKS.
