The results were extraordinary.  The project took a few days longer than expected, but that didn't bother us, as we would rather get the project done correctly rather than rush it.  The roof looks great. Josh was at our home every other day to give me an update on the work that had been done that day, and what was ahead.  I was on the roof almost daily after the workers left so I could see progress and all the items that we discussed were done.
It was very professional job, well coordinated, no surprises, and Josh came in on budget, which isn't always the case with contractors.  Josh was professional throughout.  He communicated with us frequently and thoroughly.  Like I said, there were no surprises and the results exceeded my expectations.  I was just on the roof yesterday, and the roof felt really solid underneath my feet (no soft spots) and the installation was well done.
I would highly recommend Josh and Ameriserv.

He was able to come sooner than expected and they worked very, very long hours the first day with a double crew to make sure we were weather tight that night. They also made an extra trip to the hardware store rather than going over an extra day to wait for needed supplies. Fast and hardworking! our new roof is so quiet - we can hardly hear the rain. I do wish it was not constantly dripping little roof pellets on my deck every time it rains, but I think this shall pass rather shortly as roofing is messy business!

There are lots of roofers on Angie's list, and I wanted to narrow it down, so I asked a roofing supply company for recommendations.  They gave me three business cards and said they trusted each of them to do a good job.  Two were already on Angie's list, so I called them both (Ameriserv was one of these).  I also called one more of the more highly recommended ones on Angie's list.  Ameriserv was the first to come out.  I was impressed with Chris's professional and straightforward manner in answering all my questions and explaining options, and his interest in getting me the roof I wanted without trying to sell me anything else.
I went ahead and got the other two bids before deciding.  I gave each of them the same list of things I wanted done.  I thought both of them would have done a decent job, but the "more highly recommended" one turned out to be quite a bit more expensive, and they couldn't start for a month.  The other one priced the job pretty close to Ameriserv, but was also a few weeks out.  I was already leaning toward Ameriserv because Chris seemed like someone who would be easy to work with, and as anyone knows who has worked with contractors before of any kind, this is a very important part of the decision.  I was not disappointed: both Chris and Josh were champs in that department.  Chris even took the time to drive me around the neighborhood so I could see the shingles I was interested in on other houses.
I told Chis I was concerned about getting it done before the bad weather set in (it was almost November), and he said he'd talk to Josh and get back to me.   He shortly called back and said they would shift a few things around in their schedule and get started that week as soon as they could get the supplies delivered.  We had a few days of good weather, and they put extra guys on the job to get it done even sooner than expected.  They both came by often to make sure everything was going smoothly, and that I was happy with the way it was turning out.  I liked that they even painted the pipe flashings to match the roof color.
It's been a few months since they finished, and I still smile every time I drive in the driveway as I look up at the roof and see how great it looks, and how much better the whole house looks because of it.
Bottom line:  If you need a new roof, you owe it to yourself to call these guys for a bid.

good, no issues, work was done well – roof needed extra work because sub-roofing material needed replacement, Ameriserv provided fair price and did the work promptly.

It was the best experience with a contractor that we have ever had. Even our neighbors so were impressed they brought the guys refreshments! I was extremely impressed with the professionalism of the the young gentleman who own the company and have recommended them to a number of our friends. They did exactly what they said they would do with they said they would do it. They cleaned up after themselves every night and policed the area for any nails or other sharp objects that might be laying around. Two of our neighbors were so impressed that they too have had roofs installed by these people. Six bids were submitted to us for the work on our roof although not the lowest, they did offer the best product and were the most professional.

I was very happy with his workmanship and he was also courteous, professional and the quality was excellent.  He was willing to work with me on small issues with the roof--i.e., the chimney.  The job was done on TIME!  I would refer him to anyone.

I had < 2 weeks to at least contract for a roof replacement.  Insurance company insisted we replace roof on rental home or they would issue a notice of 'intent to cancel'.
I ended up meeting & getting quotes from 4 vendors (2 were between $10-12K, other 2 were between $17-20K) all for same job!   BTW...  AmeriServ did not have the advertising presence to even make my initial short list of 3 vendors.   It was only after the sticker shock of my first estimate - that I decided to get a couple of additional estimates & reached out to an acquaintance in the construction industry, asking who he'd recommend.  He gave me their name.

I called and "Chris" answered the phone.   Sounded like he was driving so I asked if it would be better to call back.  He said he was on a job site but could take the call.   Since I was on a short timeline, when he initially suggested an appointment later in the week I explained my situation & asked if we could meet earlier.  He said he'd check options & call me back in an hour.   He did & said someone would meet me at 530pm that same evening.  Very cool, I thought, especially since one of the other vendors scheduled me out 10 days & wouldn't budge, indicating absolutely know way to move that up, even given my situation.
I arrived a little before 530 and "Josh" was there in an AmeriServ pickup. He apologized for not having oppty to wash the truck (looked fine to me).   I learned later that Chris & Josh were partners in AmeriServ (I think that was the setup anyway).   And that they each had multiple years experience in the industry, working for larger contractors.
I appreciated Josh's consultative, almost non-sales approach.  I had done some online research to educate myself to not be at the mercy of salespeople.  Josh took the time to explain options (plywood vs OSB, ridgevent, flashings, etc).   I walked around on the roof w/ him, taking measurements, while he pointed out how AmeriServe would handle various aspects of my job.   He contrasted my roof with neighboring roofs, including 1 that was recently replaced by a competitor who I also was getting a quote from.   Without making a big deal of it - he described their specific methods for ensuring quality on a job as well for improving their own processes by taking 'lessons learned' from each job.   He didn't use those 'buzzwords' but it was clear they took quality seriously and had mechanisms for monitoring & improving.
At no point did I feel "pressured" to go with any option, or even to close the deal with them.   I told Josh that I was still getting another bid before deciding (btw from the 10-day company, who I originally thought would be my final choice - based on their online reviews & that they had just done a job in the same neighborhood).  He honored his commitment by emailing me their estimate later that night.
Ameriserv ended up being the lowest bid but even if they were the next higher one, I still would've chosen them.  By that time, I was convinced they would commit to a quality job and furthermore, that they had the ability to do so.   After getting my last bid & deciding on Ameriserv, I called Josh & arranged to meet him at their office to schedule work, choose options, & make down payment.  At this time, another step I appreciated was Josh explaining exactly how the job would proceed (pre-delivering materials, when they'd need the driveway, dumpster arrival, contingency plans if it rained while job underway, etc).  So, a good job setting my expectations up front & then managing those, as the job proceeded.
Our start date was thwarted by rainy weather but Josh kept me updated as start date approached.   Once the job was underway, Josh texted me daily status updates with photos!.    The entire job was completed on time, no damage or wear on the premises, and they did a thorough clean up afterward (including some magnetic vacuum to pickup any nails - & with 3 layers of shingles removed - there must've been 1000s of nails removed).
A couple of days after completion, I met Josh at the house for a final walkthrough (walkupon?) of the job. Josh presenting their finished work, pointing out the features & options we'd discussed, and answering any final questions.  He gave me the warranty paperwork and gave him a check for the balance.  As a final nice touch, he agreed to hold my check for 2 days before depositing.  :-)
