DOM Construction is a Seattle-based siding installer and specialty contractor firm, dedicated to using the finest products and craftsmen. We bring years of experience to every job. DOM Construction is your construction siding solution, with crews experienced in the application of a variety of siding materials. These materials include Hardie, vinyl, and a variety of wood products such as primed spruce, cedar, cedar shingles, and more. From our beginning in 1990, our main focus has been new construction. These projects have included condominiums, apartments, and single family homes. Our experience has allowed us to put in place processes that address the challenges/special concerns of both the general contractor and the owner/builder, as well as the homeowner. Our experience and knowledge has allowed us to identify and understand the primary concerns facing the new construction builder and to address any potential issues early in the planning phase. Vlad and his team were extremely professional, prompt and gave us accurate estimates on cost and time to complete. They kept the work site neat, cleaned up each day and Vlad kept us well informed on the progress as well as answering questions. The workers were extremely polite and consulted us on any findings where decisions might need to be made. Vasily did a terrific job painting the house & trim one the hardy plank was up. Highly recommended!

I would say that they did the siding work really well. But the finishing wasn't that great. For example, they removed the electric outlet outside on my deck to do the siding and then they put it back, they didn't put it back straight. they put is back in a 90 degree angle so now I have to plug everything in that 90 degree angle. I didn't have the chance to fix it. Aside from that, they did the siding work pretty well but not the finishing touch ups.

The crew was prompt and very flexible because of the Fall weather. There was minimal disruption to our daily routines. We also had new doors installed by a different contractor, and the two blended their time and work smoothly. The house was completed except for the paint when the weather changed and rains began. We waited until Spring to paint, and DOM initiated the call to begin the work. The painting team was fast, using a.blended color that we created - the challenge didn't phase them. The painters had great ideas about trim and complementary colors that were very helpful. We found a lot of nails and screws in our yard and driveway after the siding crew left; a quick phone call and they returned immediately to finish the clean-up. We were delayed during the siding phase by communication lapses with the window company they use as subcontractors. There were some mis- measurements and poor communication, but DOM facilitated the solution and we are happy with the results.

It went well. There seemed to be a struggle to get a contract for work to be performed created initially, but we were able to receive on. Provider showed up when promised, completed work within the timeframe promised. Overall they did a good job. There were a few areas we needed them to re-address, and there are a couple areas we would have liked to have seen done differently in terms of the workmanship, but ultimately they did a solid job and for a reasonable price.

I contacted Dom Construction about 8 months prior to the start of my project, and set up an appointment for Tim to come and provide an estimate.  We discussed the project and he measured everything, providing an estimate for the project a day or so later.  My homeowner's association has rules about siding products, and I let Tim know that what was installed needed to be the same size of exposure as what I had.  I did not measure my existing siding to confirm that the size Tim quoted was the same exposure as what I already had.
About 6 months later I called Tim to set up a start date on the project and he jacked the price up a bit "due to seasonal demand", but it was still within my budget so I went with it.  The delivery driver of the siding materials backed into the brickwork around my garage, but I was able to get that repaired by the delivery company.  The team got a good start on tearing out the old siding and began to install the new siding.  When I saw the newly installed siding, it was clearly a much larger exposure than what we had before, and definitely outside the tolerance of my HOA.  This was confirmed by the phone call I got from our HOA manager, who let me know that someone on the HOA board noticed that the size was wrong and that we needed to stop the installation immediately.  I had the project manager stop installation and get the correct size ordered, but Dom charged me for the siding that they had installed, the labor of installing the wrong siding, as well as the additional cost of the correctly sized siding + additional labor involved in installing smaller exposure siding.  Tim insisted that he told me he was going with a larger exposure to save me money, though I am absolutely certain that I told him I needed it to be the same size as what I had.  Tim constantly seemed suprised that a HOA could have any say over what I did with my house, which is unfathomable for someone who quotes residental siding projects.  I was on the verge of cancelling the project with Dom and hiring another siding company to do the job correctly, though the initial payment I had already given to Dom would have been lost, and I wasn't sure it would be less over-budget if that is what I had done.
After they fixed the size of the siding, the rest of the project went reasonably well.  The installers punched into a garden hose pipe in my garage, but were able to turn off the water main to properly fix it up when I returned from being out of town.  The painters did a good job, though their subcontractor tried to charge me directly for painting my front door when it was clearly in the contract that the front door cost was included in the entire project.  The quality of installation is pretty good, though I think there are a few joints I need to recaulk. They did not clean up well, and I continue to find nails and other debris on my property.
The project came in nearly $10k over the originally quoted price, and I was enormously frustrated by the whole experience. I am certain that I would have gone with another contractor had Dom quoted the price for the correctly sized siding, and I am apalled at how Tim's sizing error was "my problem" at a time when Dom would have been happy to walk away with my construction deposit and my siding torn off, leaving me up a creek.

We called Dom on a Monday morning for a quote, and they e-mailed us the quote that afternoon.  Tues. morning we contacted them to say we accepted the quote and gave them a deposit that afternoon.  They began work the next day.  I was amazed at how quickly they began.  The siding was done in 10-12 days.  We did have to wait about a week before they could paint (for the weather to cooperate), and they finished painting the siding and all the trim in about 3 days.  The results are great!  Our house never looked so good on the outside!  Dom was professional, fast, and did an excellent job.

The crew arrived a few days late and dumped all materials on the driveway and installed portable toilet. It took them two weeks to replace the siding, and after that the crew simply disappeared for a week while leaving all the garbage behind, blocking the driveway and ruining flowerbeds on the neighbor's sideyard. Communication was really bad: didn't answer emails and didn't return phone calls, later claiming that they never received them.

Only after few calls I made them come back and pick up a garbage. Apparently the reason why they didn't do that was that they waited for the painter to arrive. When I asked when would the painter arrive, they said it depends on the weather and could be tomorrow or in a month. I couldn't imagine having all that garbage laying around for a month, so I forced them to pick it up. They came to pick some garbage up, but still left some leftover materials in the middle of the driveway and portable toilet on the neighbor's front yard. I have to make a few more calls to make them take care of that as well.

Finally, a week later the painter came and finished the job and they picked up all the garbage and a toilet. But after they claimed that they are done, there was still a lot of debris around: nails, glass and cigarettes all around, and the neighbor's flowerbeds were ruined as well. They also didn't reinstall the door bell (just left the cord hanging) and the address sign.

I would never work with them again and wouldn't recommend anyone to even call them. They are absolutely unprofessional.

2/11/2013 Update in response to Dom Construction's response below:

Price is not everything, I initially chose them because of their reputation, good reviews and a nice estimation guy. They were not the cheapest and I knew how much would the project cost, otherwise I wouldn't sing a contract. And now after this bad review Kenneth is trying to come after me with threats to remove doorbells and number signs and bogus invoice which appeared out of nowhere, 4 months after the project was done and all my checks were cashed. The project was done in October, but they have just noticed my review and are threatening me now. Beware to use them, they might come after you too!
Response from Dom Construction Inc
"[member name removed] and Angie's List members, price C - well, when the price is just C why would you choose DOM Construction, not price A and XYZ company? probably we were the cheapest, but [member name removed] had no idea how much siding replacement might cost. if some of you have done any bigger project then you know, that timing and scheduling in winter time might be the issue. we agreed that we'll start after certain day, but no sooner. it means I had a window to set up my crew, material and dumpster. we showed up within 2-3 days. All material was there already - yes on the driveway - and dumper on the street. there was no room on the front yard or back yard. 3 guys crew work everyday and they finished - within 2 weeks. there was hardie prefinished siding, however (I awared [member name removed]) some areas like vents, blocks, soffits etc. had to be painted. so after we finish all siding I scheduled my painter. because of the rain in 2013 winter I had to wait to have no rain for 2 days before and 1-2 days after painting with temp above 33 degrees. yes, the dumper still was there and portable toilet just because painter had to use dumper and toilet. I get many email about the toilet and dumpster. The rest of material was segregated on the side of the driveway, nice and clean. finally painter finished his job and within 1-2 days all was gone. Also we are using United Site Services for portable toilets and sometimes when I am calling for pick up they are coming after 3 days. QUALITY - if anybody wants to see the siding from the street - you are very welcome. I have also pictures. Also I am sure that [member name removed] never saw the siding, because he moved to Cali and I had to sent him photos. btw - I never saw [member name removed] and I am sure he is good in whatever he is doing, but construction is not his good side. Yes please hire someone else next time then you will see how smooth we did our job."

Chose Dom Construction from three Angie's List A rated Siding Contractors from whom we received bids.  Although Dom was the lowest bidder, choice was made primarily because the Dom Sales Agent, Ron Kowalski, was more flexible, & willing to accomodate us by makeing changes in materials, scheduling, etc, to better suite our situation.
Mr kowalski himself made some temporary repairs which allowed us to delay the whole job to a more convenient date, & he continued to monitor the work & provided many other excellent services for us.
The site Foreman, Vlad, made periodic inspections of the work in progress, coordinating with the workmen, Paul & Jose, who did an excellent job, working in some very uncomfortable weather conditions.  They were very professional, friendly, considerate, & quick to comply with any of our requests.
The Siding used was the "Hardie" style plank siding & trim, primed in colors very similar to our desired colors, which will allow us to do the final painting in the spring.
Overall, we're very pleased with this job, & Dom Construction.

We had 3 estimates and Dom construction was the most reasonable price, and I appreciated Ron, the Sales person no bull attitude. Just told it like it was.
We communicated mostly via email and set up possible start date, it was within a couple days of that.
Because we have a old house 1937, I figured things may be found once you start tearing down old siding. So, there were moisture ants, Vlad the supervisor advised to get that taken care of before the new siding was put up. So the next day I had an exterminator come out and then they proceeded with putting on siding. They also had to replace the flashing on the deck so that there wasn't the ant problem again. There was some fascia and gutter issues because of the old wood, so Vlad set up a gutter company to do that with our approval. Whenever there were questions, Vlad was there to answer or see that things were fixed to meet our approval.
The actual workers were very friendly,  had a good sense of humor and open to correcting any thing that need to be fixed when Vlad pointed  out what needed touching up or changing.
The cost was more than what was bid, but when you have an old house that is bound to happen.
I am submitting the last payment today.
We are very satisfied with the work that was done.

Our experience with DOM was great. We met with Vacek in late July to get a bid for siding our house and putting in a new deck. We were undecided about materials for both the siding and the deck. Vacek was extremely knowledgable in all things siding in particular Hardie plank. He discussed several options with us keeping in mind we wanted to preserve the integrity of our 1924 craftsman. Their bid was highly competitive. They also bid on our deck replacement and enlargement. Vacek brought us material samples. We originally had them bid for Trex material which again was highly competitive. We chose to work with DOM for both siding and deck in part because Vacek was so pleasant to work with, but also because their bid was competitive compared to others.
In the end we weren't 10% sure of our choice of deck material so we went back and forth delaying the project start a bit until we could make up our minds. Vacek was able to accommodate and encouraged us to take our time to make the right choice for us. We did change our minds and chose Azek instead. Work began in early September.
There was a minor communication hiccup at the beginning between DOM and our insulation installer. This resulted in a 2 day project delay which wasn't a big deal for us. DOM was accommodating to allow them time to blow in insulation to our previously uninsulated walls after the existing siding had been removed. From there, the wrapping and siding installation proceeded as scheduled. Vlad, the project lead, was very patient with our questions about daily progress and about why something was being done in a certain way. In all instances, we were satisfied by the explanation and work that was done. The painter that they used was superb. We had the whole house painted after the siding was installed. We were very happy with his work and we would use Igor again for any of our painting needs. After the siding and painting were completed work on our deck began. We were surprised when we realized that the deck measurements did not match the design we'd given them. We pointed this out and after a few back and forths (and much angst on our part) they agreed to follow our design which resulted in a bit of a delay as they had to order materials in order to redo work. Vacek and crew were very responsive to any questions and corrected issues that did arise. Our house looks great and our deck saw a lot of use this summer. We'd definitely work with them again.

I served as the building enclosure consultant and prepared detailed working drawings and technical specifications for the bidding and the work.
The estimator was responsive to my request for a proposal and submitted an estimate that was easily understood by the owner and me.
The craftsmen were all very professional and knowledgable.  In all instances, they responded quickly to areas of concerns that I had during the remediation.
I am confident that the home will no longer experience the water penetration problems that have plagued the home for years.
I will be more than happy to use them on future projects of this scope.

Prior to soliciting bids I met with Vacek the president/owner of Dom Construction and other contractors in order to establish a budget for our condo board to review and approve and to arrive at realistic bid documents. Dom submitted by far the lowest bid and came in right at our tight  budget. We signed a contract, established an early August starting date and finished in two months  Unforeseen details were quickly resolved and what little unsatisfactory work there was was corrected without a question. The building site was tight with not much room for materials, construction debris and parking. The Dom crew was very obliging to our neighbors by moving trucks cleaning up at the end of the day and in general responding cheerfully to peoples requests. Our twenty six year old building now looks new and contemporary and our neighbors are happy. Although I am now retired I was a registered architect and practiced in Massachusetts for over thirty years.  I rarely enjoyed working with a contractor more than I did with Dom Construction.

What went well: 1) The final install of the siding, house wrap, E-Low insulation, trim, and shingles look great and I?m expecting it to last nearly as long as the house will. 1a) Updated from original post: A few weeks after the job wrapped up we noticed that on one of the joints between boards there was a joint flashing that was missing. This was under an overhang and would most likely have been fine. But considering we expect, and desire, to have this job be the last time we did siding we wanted this fixed. The day we contacted them the crew lead was out that same day (early evening) and in less than 10 minutes it was fixed. He even apologized that they did not do this step as they thought it was fine as is. We present this as another reason for the "A" on Professionalism. I was tempted to update the Punctuality to "B' but we'll hold to the "B" rating. What did not go so well: 1st of all, a caveat: We are happy with our install and would consider DOM for any future work. 1) Our 1st selection on color for the HP shingles was not available and had a lead-time of 6-8 weeks to get. We had to settle for a different color, but we still like the final result. I would ensure you check lead times if you are going with color-plus HP. 2) Job foreman: We saw him sporadically and mainly at the end. We would have like to see him more often than we did. In many ways this is our fault as we should have contacted him with any concerns. Recommendation: If you choose DOM use the foreman as you main point of contact and do it frequently. Carla, in DOM?s defense, did tell us this at the start. When we did call things were taken care of quickly. Thus the ?A? rating on Responsiveness, but ?B? for Punctuality. 3) Communication with the crew was challenging. There were many times where communication was challenging. The English skills of the workmen was passable but rough. In retrospect we should have used and called the job foreman more often. We did this towards the end of the project. 4) Miscommunication on shingle install led to installation error. Carla and the foreman discussed the gables shingle install and where we wanted it. However the pictures we created were not shared between Carla and the foreman and lead to a misunderstanding of were we wanted a transition. They had to redo one section. They did, once the finger pointing game was over, with out any argument or delay redo the one section. Recommendation: If you have a ?non-standard? install, use pictures, or sketches, and ensure that all parities have them and understand what you want. My strong impression is that Carla will take steps to ensure this kind of mix up never happens again. Because of the way they handled this mix-up, and the overall experience with Carla, we gave them a ?A? ratting for Professionalism 5) Painting: This was the main part of the job where things did not go well. We wanted to have our gutters, fasca, and soffit painted to match. This was an approx $3000 option we asked for. We thought (including Carla) that the crew would come in on day one and with professional equipment do all the painting in a day or two. What occurred is that the siding crew did the job in sections (along with the siding) using a handheld Wagner (small) paint gun. This added about 4 to 5 days to the overall job, the upside is that using small equipment gave them tight control. Even so it appeared that for some of the trim pieces and many areas were done with just one pass. Our gutters and fasca boards were a dark blue color and it needed to be white to match the new trim. In many areas you could still see the blue showing through. Almost all of my pickups at the end of the job were related to paint quality. They did fix all of my paint pickups with out question. Recommendation: Don?t have the siding crew do your paint. As part of your statement of work make it clear how the painting will be done. They would have earned a "A" on quality from me but for the painting. I think that Carla will fix this in the future as well. 6) Time it took. Job was nearly 5 weeks in total when we were expecting at the most 4 weeks. Part of this was due to the fact that we had foam sheathing. It had to come off and new OSB sheathing put on. We knew this going in but it did add about $2000 to the final cost. Because of this, and not knowing what they would see when they got into a section of the house they did just one section at a time. Some days we would see two guys for 8 hours, some days just one guy for 4-6 hours. But it was unclear to us why some days we were limited to just one guy. Other delays were 4 days due to weather being too bad to remove the old LP and 4 to 5 days was just for the small Wagner paint application, and 2 days for materials to show up. Carla got involved again and made a push at the end to finish the job up. Again overall we are happy with DOM and in particular, Carla. We would strongly consider them for future work on our house. I do believe that the issues we had will be corrected, as both Carla and DOM is a professional and caring company. They earned an overall "A" from us.

It went quite smoothly. They started on time, and while they took a bit longer than anticipated, I really appreciated it because they were obviously paying attention to details. Everyone has told me how great the siding looks. It went from "street ordeal" to "street appeal" in 2 weeks!

We have pretty much decided to use this company, but we are planning to hold off for a year. I really lilke the sales representative, Carla. She was very up front and gave me some information that the other companies didn't and I felt like they should have been up front about, as well. Our siding is a certain type of aluminum that we will get two or three grand for at the recycling center. The other companies didn't tell us that, they were just going to keep it and that makes a big different in the price. Their price was not the best, it was in the middle.

Ron was my main point of contact, and he was friendly and helpful throughout the process. Two different sets of independent contractors performed the work, with Ron coordinating. The demolition and installation was performed by one set of contractors, and although only one of the two guys spoke English, I didn't have any issues communicating with them. The painting was done by another contractor. On one occasion, the contractors failed to show up, and Ron found out that they had gone to work on another project that day. He spoke with them and got them to come back the next day and finished out the job with no issues. It's now several months and lots of rain and wind later, and the siding is holding up very well.
