After being quoted an outrageous price (around $4,000) for a water heater replacement by a contractor who was on site to do furnace maintenance (but who insisted he had noticed that my water heater needed immediate replacement), I called John for advice. He came that afternoon and gave me a quote to replace the existing water heater with another of similar size and quality for $750. He came the next day and did the job for that price.
I completely trust John. He was recommended by a friend who I can rely upon for good recommendations and did not disappoint. I have passed along his name to many others and would not hesitate to do so in the future.
John has done a number of plumbing jobs for us in the past and always get the job done well, provides good and fair advice. During this visit he also fixed a bath drain plug that was no longer connected to the tub mechanism - no charge for that quick fix.
He also took a look at our water heaters (~12 years old) and recommended keeping them for now.
John gave me a bid and then stuck by that bid. I am puzzled by the reviewer who said she got the price from John AFTER the work was done. John gives a bid. I do think the homeowner would want this bid itemized, and in writing. John gave me an oral bid after I listed the jobs that needed to be done in a e-mail, then I used that bid. Always make sure the bid is written and signed by the installer!
John did exactly the and quot;services listand quot; above. I needed to add the toilet valve (after discovering it was broken during the toilet removal and installation) and I added the 2nd toilet to install and he billed me accordingly. John did not quibble about the extra work even though he had another job to get to. He began the list above on New Year's Eve, because he had called me to cancel the day before when a gas line job ran longer than expected. He worked New Year's Eve morning to make up for missing my appointment, although he had another job after me in the afternoon and, I found out by chatting with him, a party to attend that evening. He willingly finished up the list by installing the toilet valve and adjusting pipes to fit new cabinetry a few days later. I do not believe he charged me for having to play around with the pipes to fit the new cabinetry. He was easy to schedule and if he could not make a certain time, he called.
I'd hire John again. He knows his plumbing and is experienced, quick, and charges by the job.
