Richard came to our home with 3 guys for demo. After 2 days, there were 2. We are already months behind schedule. Within the first week he fires his only remaining hand due to late arrivals @ work. His hand worked so hard & feverishly that he made up for the late starting time! So, now we are behind schedule more than ever since Richard's work ethic left much to be desired. When he decided to work (2 full days of actual labor) he made huge progress but most of his time was on the phone & smoke breaks. Days/weeks went by with very little accomplished. Couple this with many lies I caught him in, several involving me! He had issue's with the contractor which in turn he relates to me. Constant complaining & no work being done caused so much stress & anguish!!! Richard portrayed himself as an advocate of ours, criticizing every little thing the contractor ( his boss) did, which caused much friction between our contractor & us. He had all these high standards everyone else was held to except himself! After all the arguing, complaining, confrontations & dishonesty, I would rather be without a deck as go through that again. Oh, did I mention he walked off the job 1/2 finished with no explanation, no anything?
When he was immediately replaced with another master carpenter on our project, we found out just how shoddy some of his work was. Much of the cedar & flashing on the upper deck had to be redone. Cracked corner posts; nails not seated which he pounded over with a hammer; gaping corner mitre's; unsealed screws placed through the "rain escape" water proofing system on upper deck which caused the system to fail. Richard kept insisting the system was flawed. After much research & a specialist to install the system, we elected to proceed. The "rain escape" guy showed me all the details of installation & the only way it would leak is if anyone drove a screw into it WITHOUT using the sealant on the screws. Sure enough, we had 2 leaks. The replacement carpenter found that 2 of the (several) screws which Richard placed had no sealant on them. He had been instructed on this at length before adding the upper decking. After removing & sealing them our upper deck is waterproof! We are very happy with the system. I see Richard's address has changed since his business card has a different address in Monroe, Wa.
I certainly would NOT recommend this guy to anyone & would NOT hire a company that sub contracts to him.
