J & J Stump Grinding

These guys were great and very responsive. We called them on Friday afternoon and our three stumps were removed early Monday morning! They're quick and do great work!

We ended up having to pay the same amount we paid this company to finish the job. They did not even grind the stump down to the ground and left all the roots there as well as a giant pile of wood chips, so I couldn’t even see what they did or didn’t do. They said they couldn’t do anymore because of large boulders under the tree that they hit which were two stones that were under 50lbs each. It took me less than 30 minutes to cut around these with an axe later on. Since they left so much of it there, we had to hire a new company to finish what they couldn’t complete after they were unresponsive when I contacted them to ask if they could come out to finish the job (which I would have done some compensation for the job). On top of this they stated they are a “Stump Removal” company, but didn’t remove any of the wood chips from our property and were not upfront about this. At one point our dog snuck over to the pile and ended up eating wood chips and we had to take him to the emergency vet because of it. Overall not happy about the service or not even responding when I asked them about coming back out. Would not recommend.

After another company did not follow up after I requested an appointment, I contacted these guys and they responded immediately with a quote and then scheduling an appointment. They showed up on time and the quality of work was excellent. Highly recommended!

Josh and Mike came out and grinded away on two stumps with long roots in our front yard plus another long root in the backyard. So wish we had them out sooner- a lot less expensive than I expected. Super nice dudes.

Around April 26, 2-16, job was done well with stumps ground down however five large roots were still left. I did not discover this until a few weeks later when I had time to go in to spread the wood chips around (leveling) and started to add a layer of decorative bark on top. I could not remove the roots myself tho I tried with an axe. I could not ignore the roots as they are dangerous to accidentally step-on due to our PNW rainfall (slippery). I marked all the roots with 36-inch stakes and sent pictures to J&J Stump Grinding via text on June 7th with my address. June 18th I sent a text again asking what the plan was to remove the roots. I was asked to text them again and they would schedule a PM appt however I got sidetracked with planning a long vacation out of the country. Upon return, I texted on August 2nd and called several times. On Sept 19th, I got thru to the right brother to request the work be completed. Roots were removed Oct 4th.

Called before he came over for the scheduled appt. Showed up on time and got right to work. Answered all my questions and got right to work. Finished very quickly and cleaned up the chippings.

Contacted through this site, they got back to me within 24 hours.  Stopped by the next day for estimate.  Scheduled work at that time for 4 days later.  Arrived on time, did exactly what they said they would and charged what they estimated, even though one of the stumps turned out to be much more time consuming than expected.  Recommended and would use them again.

Very courteous and prompt service

We had 2 stumps that needed grinding. One was a cottonwood stump about 3-4' wide and 3' tall. The other was an unknown tree that was already cut to the ground, but had some surface roots that needed to be removed. We're planning to put in a new lawn, and wanted to make sure the stumps and roots wouldn't cause any problems with our new grass.
Zach returned my call quickly and was very competitive in his pricing (I'd gotten other quotes that were a little higher). We agreed he'd come out at 9:00 am to get started. I received a call from him about 8:45 saying that he was running late. No problem, I understand that happens. When he arrived and was about to get started he realized that he'd forgotten something in his other truck, and needed to run to a hardware store before he could begin the job. He was back quickly from the store with whatever he needed, and got started at about 11:00. It took him about an hour to grind the big stump, and only about 10-15 minutes for the little one. He used a chainsaw to cut apart some of the large stump, and there were two huge chunks of wood from that. He wasn't able to grind those, but did cut them into smaller, more manageable pieces for me.
The stumps are gone, and I'm quite happy with the job. I would hire them again if I needed any more stumps removed, and I'd recommend them to others.

They were prompt and courteous and answered all our questions before starting the work. They arrived on time and finished the work within their estimate that they had given us on the phone.
We had several large maple tree stumps in a cluster that had grown into a large pile of rocks, some of which were several feet in diameter. We were very impressed at the skill they demonstrated in working what was obviously a very difficult stump removal with all the large rocks grown into the wood.
Great people to work with. We would recommend them to anyone needing this type of service.

Zach first came out to quote on the job. My husband couldn't be there for the quote, but had given me the price he had paid for stump removal in Michigan. We've learned that home repairs, etc., generally cost about three times the price here. Zach actually came in under the estimate that my husband and I thought it would have cost in Michigan. I was thrilled and booked the job.
We are on a ridge - a steep ridge. The bushes we wanted removed were on a severe incline, but the severity was masked by the bushes. The first time the crew came out with their standard machine, it was clear it wouldn't work. Zach arranged for a hand-held machine to grind out the stumps and came back another day. The guys were done within three hours.
The guys were all courteous and professional. Something happened on the day they had first come to work but discovered the machine wouldn't work. My four-year-old daughter heard the name and quot;Zachand quot; and wanted to show him something she had taken for and quot;sharingand quot; at preschool. It was a dinosaur puppet that roared. She called it Zach the Dinosaur (thus, why she wanted to show him). Zach had kindly told my daughter that he'd love to see her surprise. When she produced it and made it roar, he reacted with very dramatic antics, jumping off our porch as if he were frightened out of his wits.
It isn't often that the guys who come to grind out tree stumps will not only have a good price, get the job done swiftly (and figure out how to do that at the quoted price) AND make your kids laugh and feel at ease.

Zach did a great job grinding down four tree stumps on sloping ground in our back yard. He was professional and has a great customer service ethic. I would use J and J again.

I was in need of a stump grinding service and called 10 different companies from AngiesList. J and J was the only company that answered my call. I explained that I needed several stumps removed within 2 days. Josh explained that they were booked up for the week, but then told me that they would be willing to remove the stumps on a Saturday afternoon. Zach showed up on time and removed the 7 stumps, each to my satisfaction. I am extremely pleased with the services that J and J performed.

The Hamilton brothers came over to estimate the job within 1 hour of calling them. They happened to be close by. They returned the next day to do the job at the time they estimated. The one stump we had was approx 36" in diameter and 40" tall as it was dug out from a raised flower bed. Only a large backhoe could have removed that without a professional stump grinder service. Jand J had it done within 90 minutes. Then they finished off a couple of other stumps on my property. When my contractor leveled out the ground we found that they missed a chunck of the stump. After calling J and J back they set a time to return first thing the next day and completed the rest with a good attitude. I will be finding some more stumps on my other properties to give these guys some more business. And certainly recommend them to others. Any difference in pricing under a $100 is not worth it if you don't get the work done and and follow up issues dealt with. Jand J delivered on both! David
