I first came across Riddle Construction at the Seattle Home Show and was impressed with their display. I spoke directly with Chris and Joshua Riddle and was impressed with their presentation. Right from the onset, Chris, the designer, told me and my wife that their bid will not be the cheapest and said if you want home center pricing, Riddle Construction and Design should not be on our list of contractors. Joshua interjected that any contractor who tries to pressure us into selecting them because of their busy schedule would not be telling us the truth because of the economic climate. They stressed to research ALL contracting companies because many go belly-up then get back into business under a different name. They added that references were critical selecting the right contractor and to ask a lot of questions. Well, they certainly peeked my interest and respect. After doing our homework, we selected Riddle Construction and Chris was right, they were not the cheapest, however, nor were they the most expensive. Chris is open and honest and very straight forward and she isn't afraid to give you her opinion. We respected that because she made us explore the many options out there. Chris brought over samples of tile, counter top materials, paint, etc. We also visited a few places to select certain materials as we wanted to see what kinds of materials were out there. Chris gave us ideas that we really hadn't considered and we were happy with her interjections. In no way did Chris push or hurry us into the decision making process. Curt and Joshua came in to do the actual work and they were at the job site promptly every day. I can't say enough about their workmanship, and when it came time to put in our skylight in the kitchen, I was up on the roof with them asking questions and watched them take the time to do the job right. Curt took the time to explain what was going on and I really respect his knowledge and work ethic. Their choice of sub-contractors for plumbing, electrical, and drywall were very good. They did not rush the project and always kept us up-to-date on what was going on. The entire bathroom was completely gutted, with all new materials and a re-location of the sink and shower. We even put in a window to lighten the place up. We did use higher quality materials like porcelon tiles, quartz counter-tops beveled mirrors, and higher quality wood cabinets. We stayed in the house the entire time and many of our friends and family would come over on a Sunday and didn't know we had construction going on. They ALWAYS left the place clean and organized when they left for the day. We are planning on doing the same type of job in our master bath this Spring and we will use Riddle Construction again and have already placed our deposit with them. Remember, if you want to go the cheaper route, don't go with Riddle. You may pay a little more with Riddle Construction, but I guarantee you will not be dissappointed with the lack of design and craftsmanship.
