3-month project took 9 months to complete, plus we were threatened with liens because we rightly (by contract) would not pay for clearly incomplete work. Summary below: We hired Northwest Interiors and Design (NWID) for a big project they scheduled to be performed from May to August (3 months). On a six-figure project, they would send only one guy at a time to work on one area on many days, with weeks going without anyone coming and without any work being done on the project. Without any major change orders that would cause delays, the project was completed only 9 months later. We budgeted a delay of 1-2 months, but this excessive delay on a 3 month project seems wholly unacceptable and unprofessional -- especially without any explanation as to why minimal to no work was being done thus delaying the work. Despite all the delays, we were sent invoices for project areas that were obviously not complete (for example, they would bill for an area where the flooring is lacking, or a media center without any cabinet doors at all). We were billed despite the contract saying that payment would be “upon completion” of specific areas -- and these areas took another 3 months or so of work before it could be considered complete. Worse and most appalling, the owner threatened us with liens for us not paying for the incomplete areas -- which we refused to pay based on the contract she herself had drawn up. This is despite them already receiving large sums of money that would be sufficient for any other general contractor to finish the work -- pointing to huge red flags of possible cash flow issues with this company. We had to seek counsel from a lawyer who did advise us not to pay given no payment was actually due per the contract. We had originally decided to spend the extra money and hire a general contractor because I did not want the headache of coordinating subcontractors myself (as I had done on a previous home), and to make sure the project is finished in a timely manner. Unfortunately, NWID cost more, caused more problems/headaches, and took much longer than if I had done the subcontracting myself. Lesson learned. If despite the above review you are still considering hiring them, I would strongly recommend including a “performance clause” in the contract wherein they would be penalized a certain amount of money for every week of delay in the project. I would also recommend against the “design deposit” that they ask for to begin working with them -- unless they specify in writing that they would abide by a performance clause in the final contract, including what weekly financial penalties they face if they do not finish work at a reasonable and agreed-upon time.

Loved working with Marcie and Randy and the whole NW crew. They did a complete reskinning of our old, dated kitchen and helped us through the entire process, from picking out finishes, to selecting granite together downtown, to recommending better ways to improve the kitchen. I could not be more happy with the project and our kitchen. We have gotten so many rave comments about their work. And the project was done on budget with real quality. 5 star experience for us. Marcie and Randy were very easy to work with. They listened to our ideas and were willing to make recommendations and modifications based on our input. We appreciated that they could provide both new cabinets and refacing combined, which was just what our kitchen needed. The installers did a great job, and the finish carpentry was beautifully done. We also appreciated Northwest's attention to detail. Our contract clearly stated what work would be done and the costs involved. Randy and Marcie's integrity was stellar. While our project lasted longer than we had been told due to some staffing issues, our kitchen looks beautiful and we had no issues on cost.

Northwest Interior and Design is a company you can trust. The owners are real people who know the business. Steering the ship are Marcie and Randy who together have the experience to complete most any Kitchen and Bath project. Marcie’s strengths are in design and Randy’s in the Construction; together they lead their trustworthy employees to customer satisfaction. Sounds like a bunch of hot air, however it is the truth. They also operate Northwest Fabricators who are responsible for the stone cutting side of the business. This is not the cheap stone shops you find on 1st avenue in Seattle. I have personally interacted with their employees and have found them to be professional and real craftsman. We love our completed kitchen and would highly recommend them to any homeowner looking to remodel. Rob & Marlene

Northwest Interiors and Design did my kitchen remodel . They did such a wonderful job that a few months later I asked them to do my upstairs full bath. Again they did an excellent job and were so courteous to have in my home. They treated my home and children as if they were their family. Marcie was so helpful in helping me design my kitchen and went out of her way to find the perfect kitchen sink for me. I had many estimates and they were very competitive with others yet they products far outmatched others I researched! I plan to use them again to remodel my other two bathrooms and would recommend them to anyone interested in quality work.Sincerely, Sydney

LOOK SOMEPLACE ELSE OTHER THAN NORTHWEST INTERIORS AND DESIGN. What would be YOUR take on the following? RANDY OLIVER, owner of Northwest Designs and Interiors, promised IN WRITING a refund to us if the electrical part of his work for us came in under the $1095 that was budgeted. It did; the sub-contracted electrician was at our home for 3.5 hours at $95/hour. Do the math...doesn't come up to $1095 does it. The difference is what he owes us. When it came time to pay up RANDY OLIVER responded, again IN WRITING, that "NO" the earlier written commitment he had made was 'no longer valid', he wasn't going to honor the earlier commitment, and offered no explanation. We had had no disagreement between us up to that point. Nothing. There was no verbal misunderstanding, it was all in writing and agreed to. We promptly paid RANDY OLIVER'S company $18,000+...the total he asked for the work they did. BUT WHAT DO YOU THINK? Were we misled and taken advantage of? Would you want to do business with someone who goes back on his word to his customers? I hope not. Look someplace else. If you don't, you may find RANDY OLIVER, as we did, to be a smiling, 'back slappin', good ol' guy type of person. He gave us all the indications of being a decent, respectful, thoughtful business person....at the beginning. HE IS NOT, in our experience. Please, cross Northwest Interiors and Design off your list and look for other companies who deal with customers in a more honest, respectful and business-like manner. Please find another vendor for your work. This place is not trustworthy. And if you can't trust your contractor you are in for trouble. Folks, I'm not kidding. Find another source. This guy simply cannot be trusted.
