sestat a message was notlooked at the situation.  It eventually went well, but there were complications. 
The shower had begun to leak, so I went to the hardware store to get a replacement gasket.  After searching for at least 1/2 hour, the hardware salesman found a cheap unit that, to the eyeball, had a gasket of the same size.  I tried to fit it in place, but it was just a hair too tight.  As I put the unit back together, I tightened the connection too hard and broke the end of the pipe above.
Mr Garrett, the owner of "Will Do", arrived, looked at the situation, realized that he didn't have his pipe threaders, and went back home to get them.  He threaded the pipe and then noticed that the hose was faulty.  He went home because he thought he had a correct replacement, discovered that he did not, and bought one on his way back.  The rest of the job went smoothly.
He charged me nothing for travel.
Two problems:
1.  When I telephoned, Mr. Garrett's wife took the call.  I mentioned that pipe threaders might be needed, but that information
was not passed on.  It cost me nothing and was of minor importance, but if messages are routinely lost, it might lead to a more
serious situation.
2. The unit that I had purchased (for the gasket) was of the cheapest quality possible.  When Mr. Garrett bought replacement
parts, he used that unit and fit equally bad-quality purchases to match.   I maybe should have anticipated that and asked that he buy top quality, but I think in future, he would be well advised to check it out with the customer before making purchases.
