With Chris we were able to design, add and rebuild 2 new and beautiful bathrooms, add additional living space, a master bedroom, a major roof structure replacement and new roof/gutters, new heating and a/c, major electrical updating, plumping improvements and much more. Chris is honest, caring, hard working and smart. His crew was great to work with. And the subcontractors he uses are the area's best.  Thank you Chris.

The deck replacement went well despite some weather delays.  At first he (and us) hoped that we wouldn't have to add new posts and a beam to the house side of the deck since the old deck was attached to the house.  But since it attached to a cantilevered floor of the house the engineer, and the county permit office, required that the deck be self supporting at the back and this required a change to the plan and adding 4 new concrete footings, 4 posts, and a heavy duty beam.  This added to Chris's cost but he did not change the bill (although he saved some by using some of the old concrete footings which turned out to be adequate after the county inspection).  Another deck builder planned to use screws to attach the decking and Chris used clips which don't require a screw through the decking and makes for a better looking surface.  He also did a "picture frame" of the outside which meant the ends of the boards were not exposed.  He also custom made the cedar railing with black spindles.  The black spindles have bled a little onto the lower rails but not unacceptably.  I guess I'd have them weathered a little more before installation next time.  He has offered to make good on anything but so far it won't be necessary.  It was only Chris and a helper but I preferred it that was as it meant more personal involvement by the contractor and not just turning everything over to the help which has been a big problem with many other contractors I've had.  The work was not 100% error free and with any contractor it helps to pay attention but the little errors were small; I'm probably overly fussy since I've done a lot of construction work myself on the house and I've had some real nightmare experiences with contractors over the years.  Chris is a good guy who works hard to do the job, he knows what he is doing, and I appreciated that.  I have no problems recommending him.  He does most home remodeling/repairs (or I assume knows others to work with him) and I will definitely check with him for any future projects.
Note:  The bid cost was $18,000 but the cost of permits and taxes raised it to around $20,000 (which I knew ahead of time).  He had engineering work done but that was part of the $18,000.  It is an expensive project but it was a large deck (approximately 18'x12') with a mid-level landing (approximately 12'x8') and two sets of stairs and a lot of railing and handrails.
