I decided to use local small businesses throughout my kitchen remodel, and was pleased to learn about Tops as a successful small business in Lacey. I appreciated the personal attention and professionalism while I was in my choosing stage and found my sales rep extremely responsive and helpful. The price was very reasonable and included everything--no hidden costs. I loved being able to choose my own slab and was involved and welcomed in every step along the way, including layout, cutting, finishing and installation. I had one little tinge of trouble, which was resolved in my favor, regarding a free promotional sink. (This is why they're getting a 'B' rather than 'A' from me.) The link I was sent by Tops staff described the free promotional sink as 16 or 18 gauge stainless, and I asked specifically about the 16 gauge, which is thicker stainless and considered higher quality than 18 gauge, and was told by my sales rep that I could indeed get the 16 gauge sink for free. I signed the contract, and was told later that it included the 18 gauge sink and that the 16 gauge would cost an additional $350. I challenged this with documentation, and was provided the 16 gauge sink at no additional cost. I appreciate this resolution, but I was treated differently after this occurred, and I never again saw or spoke to my original sales person. Overall the installation was done very carefully and professionally, and my countertops--and sink--are gorgeous. I would definitely recommend Tops Solid Surface, and my advice goes for any vendor you choose: be careful to understand absolutely everything--and request that every verbal promise is specified, in detail, in the contract--before you sign.

It went exceedingly well and was one of the easiest transactions I've had here in Washington State.  I'm from Florida and I'm used to the same old, same old, but I was pleasantly surprised by their friendliness, efficiency and accuracy.  There were no problems whatsoever and I have the most beautiful granite counter tops in my kitchen today thanks to TOPS Solid Surface.  I read the negative reviews and I'm not sure what went wrong, but it would seem that they have certainly improved their business in all aspects.

It was outstanding. I couldn't be happier under any circumstances. The work was absolutely incredibly well done. The people were very professional. Our counters had to be raised and they had some issues with some of the hardware that we had on the sides. Right now they look like brand new cabinets. We are pleased beyond words.

The design team of Samantha, Meghanne and owner Valerie were enthusiastic and as they met with us to review product and color options, we learned that we could recolor some of our existing tile surfaces, which included some flooring area, saving both demo mess and creating real savings which ultimately allowed us the additional budget allowence needed to upgrade to full-height tile backsplashes in our kitchen.
We worked with the scheduler, Kelly, to formulate a calendar schedule and when she offered to coordinate the plumber and electrician for us, we realized that we did not need a contractor to oversee our project. When there was a delay with one sink, she worked with the purchaser, David, to find a suitable alternative.
We now have beautiful cabinetry, granite countertops, tile backsplashes and reclored tile floors. We added one remnant quartz vanity countertop and one solid surface shower enclosure which, as promised, is a dream to keep clean. They also ordered all plumbing fixtures and our glass shower door which suit our taste very well.
The installers were conscientious, and left our project area clean at the end of each day. Although we are glad the three weeks of work are completed, we have to say, we will miss seeing their smiling faces each morning!
Thank you Tops Solid Surface team, for a job well done. You are certain to see our referred family and friends in your showroom in the near future.

Complete lack of communication. Countertops were visibly damaged in 4 places and the seam was installed extremely poorly leaving a wide gap and obvious non-color match. Owners of company have taken zero accountability of numerous phone calls, emails, texts and even physical visits to their warehouse by me to try to get this resolved to my satisfaction. No luck. In fact, the owners are more concerned with being right on a personal level versus doing the right thing and making sure the customer is satisfied.

The quality of materials was very good; however the service was extremely poor: insufficiently responsive, undependable, and disorganized. The quality of work was very poor considering they are suppose to be professional trade people.

All when well, except that my faucet was damaged during demolition. Tops took care of it and replaced faucet. Kitchen looks great!

The initial sales portion of my interaction with Tops went smoothly but every dealing after that has been either disappointing or offensive.
Tops sold me a limestone countertop for my kitchen which was beautiful in the shop. I was worried about the porosity of the stone but was told by the sales woman that it was suitable for all applications and that she had just installed the same product in her own home. The install went fine but just over a year later I started to see water marks and splotching that could not be removed. And this is where the issues with Tops really began.
I contacted Tops and John the owner came out to try and remove the "etching" (his term) without results. He said that he would do some testing on limestone with cleaners and sealers and get back to me (this tells me that he is not as familiar with this product as he should be). Two weeks later I called him back and he said that he applied battery acid, oven cleaner and beer to limestone and all three left permanent spotting. It was obvious that if beer was capable of etching a  countertop then it was not a suitable product for a kitchen. I said that I was displeased that I was sold a countertop that could stain so easily and he countered with "all natural surfaces will need some care". He followed this by informing me that I may have to seal the countertop twice a year (I should have been informed of this before making the purchase) and he would send over some sealer and cleaner (why the cleaner, I don't know because it didn't work the last time). Over a week went by with no contact or product and I called back to complain to which he said he was bringing some by that afternoon. Two more days went by before I received any product. when it came he simply dropped it off in the mailbox without coming to the door even though I was home.
The insulting part was the product itself. he claims that I may have to seal the countertop twice a year but what he
dropped off was a small used bottle of sealer that was hardly more than 1/4 full and a small packet of cleaner. Hardly enough to seal the countertop one let alone twice a year.
I feel that the level of customer support after install was awful and the lack of important care information on the product shows a negligence on their part. I am now left with a permanently stained counter which will require diligence on my part to keep from getting worse and will ultimately affect the resell potential of my home.
Response from Tops Solid Surface Co
"Member purchased 40 square feet of countertops one year and ten months ago. He admitted that he stained the countertops three months after installation with a lemon, but did not contact us until two months ago-sixteen months after he had issues. He was provided a "Use and Care Sheet" which was attached to his invoice at the time of installation, which clearly outlined how he should use and care for his limestone. Member was fully informed about the material he was buying at the time he met with me in our showroom and chose material. He was absolutly cautioned against leaving acid based liquids on his countertops for any length of time. A site visit scheduled (at no charge) within one week revealed numerous stains, acid etchings, and oil spots. Obviously this stone had not been sealed or cared for as required. We were also told by a new renter on site (who had just moved in) that the house is in partial rental status..ie others are also using the kitchen and it is assumed that they are not informed of approriate use and care. It is absolutely untrue that the owner, John Teters, told Member that he "is not as familiar with this product as he should be". What he told him was that he "was that he was not familiar with dealing with this degree customer countertop abuse". We have never seen countertops in this condition before. Additionally, we have installed many kitchens in this stone without any negative feedback. The sealant provided at no charge and delivered to him was ample enough to seal his 40 square feet of area twice. This commercial based product comes in a large container enough for 250 square feet of area. Hence the partial bottle provided. Although Member claims that the issues he has are a result of water "staining" that is untrue. The beer test we did was left on the stone for 24 hours which finally created a small amount of etching. This customer was told when he chose the stone that he would need to wipe countertops off within a reasonable amount of time of use to preserve the finish. "Reasonable" was suggested to be a few hours. The issues he has are a result of acids left on the countertops and customer abuse and neglect."

Very poor workmanship.
Did not match up granite.
Looks awful!
Did not polish edges.  Edges are rough.  They save money yet charge more so they don't polish the edges.
Did not seal granite.
Seams are not filled correctly.

Very good at selling they should work in the car business to talk you into anything.
Not very good at all in customer service.
They install, leave and just want their money!
I am surprise they put their name on their work.  I have had several people saying how awful the granite looks and will never use them.

Yes it was settled in small claims court because we did not feel that the job was done to our satisfaction so we were with holding the balance until the job was finished.  Instead of doing the work correctly the company owners decided to take us to court to get their balance.  The judge decided just to split what was owed to them.  We only paid half the balance and kept the rest to hire someone else to do the job to our satisfaction. The judge was just trying to make both parties happy.
My question is how did they exceed their contract? They only post the "wonderful" reviews on their website and not the bad.  Would love to have my photos on their website.
Response from Tops Solid Surface Co
