Tear-out of an existing short-wall and a floor-to-ceiling wall that wrapped around our wood-stove went smoothly. In the attached photo you can see the footprint of the wall and how good of a job he did repairing, muddling, and re-texturing the ceiling afterward. He also moved the (super-heavy) wood-stove out to the garage, removing the stovepipe and repairing that hole in the ceiling, too.
Replacement of all the doors (3 rooms; 2 bathrooms; 3 closets; and 1 garage-to-kitchen door) went very smoothly, and as you can see in the photographs, look great. (In hindsight we would have had them painted prior to installation.)Our old master bedroom closet was a BEAR to get into, so we had Gary widen it considerably from a 2-door system to a 3-door system. (Again, in hindsight, we would've also gone with a 3-track system instead of a 2-track system. Although Gary's work was meticulous and detailed, we hate the fact that we always have 2-doors bumping into each other now, and sadly, are looking for a replacement set of doors and rails. Money down the drain. But again, Gary's work was really nice. Loved how he wood-wrapped the entire opening of the door.)
The bathroom pocket door is a HUGE stress saver. Having it installed opened up our bedroom a little bit while also dampening the bathroom noise from those who might still be sleeping. And again, the wood-wrapping looks great.
All tear-out; clean-up; trim replacement; etc. went really well . . .
1) Correspondence was via cell phone and the quote came via US Post. I would have like to seen the quote sooner via email.
2) Price was fair, I had a lower quote but Gary promised he could get it finished by the time I needed... and he delivered.
I will be contracting Gary and his crew for more work.
Gary performed all the carpentry and electrical work, but we did the painting, as we agreed upon at the outset of the project. This worked fine for us. We will definitely call on Gary again for handyman work.
I had been wondering WHY my cats had been getting out lately - I built them an enclosure in the rear yard. Just found out how tonight when I found Gary took down the portion attached to the house and didn't notice the board bolted into the siding was also BURIED 6 inches. When he bolted it back to the house, he didn't bother to bury it back. The cats have been getting out under the fence where he left a 4-6" gap against the house. I am just lucky the cats were not run over but now, $350 worth of paint and a weekend to complete that work and now another day to be spent taking apart the bolting from the side of the house and putting the fencing back the way it was without the gaps he left. Not pleased; I expected more attention to detail.
We selected Gary without a second bid. Very friendly and seem confident in his work.
Replacing the steps to the porch was done in a day. Ripping our the counter tops in 1.5 hours.
