AN EXAMPLE OF HIS WORK / THE WORK HE 'FINISHED' IN THE DINING ROOM:
a) Will arrived late on 18 February 2012 saying that he lives in Shelton and always takes his kids to school in the morning. At first I was impressed with what a good father he was, but ultimately came to realize he NEVER gets an early start since he always has to drive to the job from Shelton.
b) Will taped sheeting over the windows and other areas, where needed, but he didn't put sheeting down on the floor. The end result is sprayed mud residue all over floor areas.
c) Will continuously sought out myself and my adult son and spent at least 2 hours that day CHATTING ABOUT ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING. I know, for example, that he had a crummy father, he was a troubled youth, his mom remarried and he had a great step father, his step father was in the construction business and taught Will everything he knows about the business, he thanked his step father once and the man wondered why he thanked him, his family eats organic and they only eat Daves Killer Bread, recently they had a weapon scare at the school his kids attend and the staff turned all the lights off in the school, his kids and all others were terrified, they're considering home schooling their kids now, his wife is taking college classes, she has enough credits to qualify her to home school their children, and the list could go on and on and on.
I would rather he stopped chatting and get to work, but in that he's a contractor and the professional, I figure he knew what it would take for him to complete the job in one day, as promised. Oh my, how wrong I was!!
d) It took more than an hour for Will to get his mud properly mixed. With each try he'd bring it inside and test it on some cardboard, then scrape it off and add it back to the hopper and go out and mix some more.
e) Will began applying the knockdown finish in the dining room even though he hadn't patched a cut out area in the drywall which was knee high and about 8" high x 14" long which he'd been contracted to patch.
f) He didn't remove the protruding nails and ultimately applied the knockdown finish over them. Additionally, he didn't patch 3 holes in the ceiling, each about 1/2" in diameter and all within about 6" of each other. Then he applied the knockdown finish with the holes still exposed and obvious.
g) When he quit the job he didn't remove the taped sheeting from the windows nor sheeting which hung down from the ceiling, nor did he clean up the mess in the entire room. All of that I've done.
AND THAT'S WHAT HE CONSIDERED HIS FINISHED WORK!!
WORK CONTRACTED TO BE DONE: Will was to do work in the front entry and entry closet, a small portion of the living room, the dining room, the dinette, a very small area on the stairway going up, the stairway leading down as well as the downstairs hallway and bathroom.
OTHER RESULTS INCLUDED:
a) Repairs very poorly done. A drywall expert subsequently said he used the wrong type of mud and the wrong mud in doing his repair around the sliding glass door. In light of that, he said the drywall patch in that area will eventually crack due to use of the door. He also said, 'WHOEVER DID THIS WORK DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HE WAS DOING!"
b) The portion OF GREATEST CONCERN TO ME, the knockdown finish, has NO CONSISTENCEY WHATSOEVER!! It has:
1) extremely sparce areas where almost NO knockdown has been applied at all,
2) areas where the mud was applied too thickly and the end result looks more like huge pock marks or moon craters,
3) areas wherer the mud was applied so thickly that when it was knocked down, the end result is thick solid strips,
one at the entry to my living room which is 6 inches wide x 5 feet long!
4) and numerous areas where the edge of the trowel made long indentations in the finish.
c) ANOTHER AREA OF GREAT CONERN TO ME is blending the new knockdown finish to the one already in the living room. It
was very, very poorly done.
d) There are rounded corners on the drywall and for the most part, Will applied almost NO knockdown finish to them at all. it looks AWFUL!
e) The 'finished' areas don't feel smooth to the touch at all and they all probably need to be sanded down a bit, even if the work didn't require all being done over again.
f) HAVING WILL DEANS WORK ALL REMOVED AND DONE OVER AGAIN WILL COST 3x to 4x THE ORIGINAL CONTRACTED AMOUNT. So I need to come up with between $1750 and $2250
g) WILL DEANS IS LICENSED AND BONDED BUT IT REQUIRES $250 TO FILE A GRIEVANCE. COMBINE THAT WITH THE COST OF CORRECTING ALL FAULTY WORK AND COMPLETING THE JOB AND IT'LL NOW COST ME BETWEEN $1750 and $2250 TO HAVE THE $450 JOB DONE.
Let this review be a warning to you all. Before hiring a contractor or repairman of any sort, to do ANY work for you at all, ask for his ID and veryif that it isn't WILL DEANS (who owns ABOVE AND BEYOND HOME SERVICES)!! In time he'll learn of this review, When he does he'll surely change his ad and he might change his phone number...but he won't change his name.
ONE LAST WARNING, whatever you do, AVOID THIS MAN AND HIS SERVICES AT ALL COSTS!! HE HAS NO CONSCIENCE!
