Some weeds pulled, ivy removed, and bark added but only where the ivy was. It looked extremely awkward. The area around the bark still had weeds and didn't fill the entire area. I figured they were coming back to finish another day. I was wrong. I'm sure this is partially my fault because I made assumptions they understood what to do. Don't assume. I found out a few weeks later that my neighbor also hired them to do some work. They saw them working at my place and needed to get some stuff done quickly. They were upset at the amount of money paid for so little work. In the end they needed it done though. My other neighbor took the opportunity to chime in on anther day. He explained how they came in and were in a real hurry and didn't seem to concerned about detail. Which I kind of though already since I had bark on my driveway and they didn't seem to tidy up much. So. This was basically my fault for not demanding they come to the house and set my expectations. I'll live up to that. Don't make the same mistake. But what really irritated me was cost. I agreed on a cap at $480 plus fees. That turned into 672$. I personally find these fees crap. I'm not going to get into detail of each but I definitely feel ripped for some of these. Again, my bad for not understand fees or digging in deeper. Note to future clients... --- Commuting between jobs, 0.75 @ $20.00 = 15.00 --- Dump Run, 0.75 @ $60.00 = 45.00 --- Disposal Fee $11.00 .5 over labor and .75 dump run = 1.25x60 and project/didn't mention com fees 15=87.50 --- Tax: @ 9.6% = 58.94

"this is what i have written that we did...pull and shovel out ivy, put down light fabric, get and unload and spread red fine bark (matching neighbor), sheer large boxwood shrub in front, dead from pierris to clean up, sheer a couple other shrubs shoots, trim back rhodies encroaching on path to back, These are difficult jobs to perform and all our clients are told we work hourly at a $60/hr. per man-hr rate. I was never called and asked to come back to do a "finish of job". we actually did A LOT OF WORK on this property, the ivy was pulled so even roots were pulled and 2-3" of bark (that we actually found to match neighbors!!) was put down, and NO WEEDS WERE SHOWING, and we blew entire front of property so i'm not sure what hes talking about how bark was on his driveway. We found that all the work Mr. [Member Name Removed] wanted done to take us much longer than just the delivering of bark so we made the decision to just do the work and charge him slightly more than just the bark install fee, then gave him $100.00 discount. we went out of our way to help another neighbor too. and 2 other neighbors wanted us to help but we did not have the time to do so. I have no idea what the 3rd party neighbor was talking about as we spent hours contacting the 2 but actually did no work for them. One contacts us 2-3 times a year these past few years, i've been to the house 3 times and spent hours giving ideas and such and have yet to be employed by him. great neighborhood...nice looking hood though. Look, sometimes when you let your yard go or need a project done it is better to hire someone else to do it and pay them because it is difficult and time consuming work. I would not be surprised if the years old 500+sqft of Hedera helix mound will start coming back from small root pieces left in the ground there (yes, we didn't get 3' down just pulled this noxious weed for a few hours). That's par for the course though, the next step is you spray it to get poison down into roots that one can't get without a back hoe. It really hurts when we work our butts off in the hot sun, covered with bark dust, sweat, and noxious weed welts, do what would take the homeowner 3X the amount of time to do (if right even), work out all the overhead cost logistics, have to pay for all the special tools to do these jobs, do what in my years of work and experience is a great job, and the homeowner just says it was terrible. then I find out this on this medium later instead of them calling me. Thanks buddy, won't be calling you back either."

The work that they did was goob. I didn't ever get to meet them in person, one of my neighbors that saw them said they were working hard. They weren't able to do as much work as I was hoping they could. They weren't able to clean up all of the planting beds, they did 2 smalls one. I personally thought I would be able to get more done than the reality was, it was not their fault. I used them for the little bit of work they did, but was hoping for more. I don't have time to shop around for someone else to do the work for a price I was comfortable with. I think the cost is so much more than I was expecting, I don't think I will use again.

They're very skilled with native landscaping and very intricate landscape. They're our recurring landscaper now.

I would recommend them highly. They were courteous and prompt. They did a very thorough job. The price seemed to be reasonable to me at that time. If I needed to, I would call them back.

"Thank you! We really appreciate a good review. hope to see you again soon or yearly for that cleanup."

I think this service was a bad match for my situation. A contributing factor to the problem was the charge of $50.00 per hour and my imposed limitation of keeping the cost under $150.00 per month (although they didn't meet this goal).
I have a small yard that had been neglected for a couple of months. I am on a fixed income and just needed mowing/weed whacking/blowing. The work that was performed was satisfactory but finished product was disappointing. For example, the lawn was mowed and I was charged for edging, but on the other side of the edged lawn were foot high weeds that ruined the effect. Even after bringing this to the owners attention the weeds are still growing tall next to my lawn. The guys were nice and the owner was very responsive and tried to work within my limitations - but in the end it was too expensive for me and the results were disappointing.

"Yes, We had a plan of attack on this yard but with the limit on our time(=$) for the initial cleanup and for the monthly service we could not clean up the entire yard immeadiately. If we had had a few more months we might have caught up and gotten it to a point that was more pleasing to [member name removed] but we just wouldn't be in business at all if we did things like 20 hours of work for 3 hours of pay. I also spent more time explaining our plan but can understand the frustration of slow progess that limited time and years of yard neglect cause. very quickly let me review that $50/hr price (not because of [member name removed] but because people ask about this occasionally)... 2guys in a truck go at least 15min. to the location and 15min from, that's one man-hour. Lets say they spend 30min on the property, thats one man hour. the lawn needs to be mowed 3x/mo. so we bill for 3 man-hours of labor that month. My company pays the guys for 6 hours spent. so at that point we are at $25/hr. the guys get over $10 of this and the company pays just under $20 for their LEGAL (L&I, etc.) services. That means the company makes $5 for overhead like gas to get to location, initial cost of tools & education & such, sending bills out, conversing/communicating with clients, etc."

Yesterday was just one of the regular lawn maintenance visits. Other jobs have been large yard detailing, and sprinkler system repair and adjustment. I am very satisfied with their work. David Grimes is very thorough.

"enjoyable job cleaning up a property and doing pruning. good natured homeowner. wished to haul some debris themselves which was nice. We don't maintain here, just a one time cleanup. If there was more pruning or help desired we would certainly go back to continue enhancing the property."

Instead of coming out and doing the work, this contractor sent out a young, inexperience employee to do the work. The young man worked very hard and was outstanding, however, I would have preferred to have had the contractor himself onsite and doing the work himself. He was contantly gone, and I feel he didn't do the work he was contracted to do.
Response from Yardwork Etc
"This elder gentleman may recall I and my "young employee" arrived together. I did the sheering and hand pruning of the shrubs in the front which took hours. When i was not present I was doing the 2-3 drives to the dump with truckloads of yardwaste which was the most time efficient way to tackle the project. The employee did work he was quite capable of doing and I did the higher level pruning and oversaw the whole project. I don't think a lower grade for an "outstanding" job is fair just because I didn't perform the entire job alone. The Wheat's seemed very pleased when we left, paid cash on the spot and even took the time to show me his propane heating system and fireplace fixes and such."

I had David give me an evaluation on what needed to be done to my yard to get it looking good after winter and the inevitable attack of lots of moss. We were ready to rip up the whole yard and start over but he told us that thatching, raking chemical treatment, and overseeding would make a huge difference. He did not try to sell us work that wasn't needed.
He contacted a different company to do the thatching and he would do the raking. We then had to wait for some dry weather. I expected David to let me know in advance when the work would be performed so I could be home at the time but I had to keep calling him to get a date and time. David and his helper came the day after the yard was thatched and did the whole yard (we have a very large back yard) in about 1.5 hours. They did a good job in a reasonable amount of time. David did have to take out some time to go to the store to buy more leaf bags - I would have expected him to come with everything needed to do the job.

"These are difficult jobs to coordinate. I cannot give an exact date as I do not know when it will be sunny or rainy very far in advance and because we utilize a third party (which was acceptable to the customer) we must wait for them (Stewart Armour aerating and thatching) to do the thatching first and so it is up to the homeowner to schedule the day of service with THEM. We arrived right away after the thatching was done to do raking. I don't think the homeowner was charged for the time it took to get the leafbags but still seemed happy with the time it took to get job done which i must say was faster than i had anticipated. Thank you for good review."

The three brush were expertly trimmed and look great. The bamboo move was going to be very labor intensive as our yard is mostly clay fill. They gave me a general estimate and said they could start right away but they did not have something for clay. I lent them my spud bar and went to work. When I came home the job was complete and the area cleaned up and looked better than when I left. What they did with the bamboo was perfect.

Yardwork Etc. is reliable, but he's very expensive. He charges $50 an hour and the first time he cut my grass it was $160 which is outrages, so dropped him. I sent him an email and said that it was ridiculous. They had three men out here and there was no way I should have been billed $160. His big deal is that he has a degree in horticulture and I said you don't need a degree to cut the grass and you don't do anything else for me. He didn't advise me on plantings and didn't plant anything or pull the weeds, so I mean essentially I'm paying to get the grass cut. I found another company that only charged me $40 for the same lawn. I used Yardwork Etc. for a couple of years, but his prices kept going up. His services were good overall.
