However it deteriorated with the 'after clean up' texted conversations. Matt never offered to do a final walk through as all the other contractors I had work on the house did. All of this could have completely been avoided had he done so. Instead I went to the house (same day as when I got discharged from hospital) and did a preliminary walk through. I noticed some broken electrical plates and some trim paint/tape issues and asked him about it and I thought it was resolved. I was fine when he said the plates were found like that and the trim was that way prior. I had to repeatedly ask him about which trim paint he used. Was it paint already in the house or not. (I kept screen shots of those texts but he brings it up later in a very unprofessional manner).
Then a couple of days later I walked to the front of the house (as opposed to entering through the garage) and noticed a full paint tray of what appeared to be oil based liquid stain sitting in the garden. There was also a stir stick in the garden. I took a picture of it and texted it to him and asked what it was and how I was supposed to properly dispose of it.
What he answered back was full of sarcasm and a long rant about me being 'nit picky'. He actually wrote that if that is all I have to worry about then I've got bigger problems! He was rude and very unprofessional to me. I took screen shots of the texts and saved them. He never once offered to return to the home and clean up the mess, instead he said he wouldn't return as I was being 'nit picky' and not treating people like a human beings' which was the oddest thing I have ever heard from a professional. It's my opinion he should not be working with people if he can't take getting questions about items left behind. It was very immature on his part and I had to actually tell him shame on him for behaving that way. I felt like he was trying to intimidate me as I am an older female.
I would never recommend him to anyone I know as his personality is too unpredictable in my experience. Oh, and he said that I should write the final check to him personally instead of to the company Sanchez Painting due to some issues he was having with an accountant.
The painting process went fine. They did the work and they got paid over $13,000 to paint the interior walls of our home. No trim done and the house was completely empty during the job which made it much easier for them. The painting job itself looks good which is what we would expect for that amount of money.
However, when the job was complete, I asked him about items in the house such as electrical plates left off wall or an area that appeared to have peeled paint he seemed to get annoyed, but my questions were answered and I thought that was it. ( I reviewed them as I kept screen shots of conversations).
Then later when I entered the house through the front door I saw a full paint tray of oil based paint setting in the front garden and a stir stick as well. I took a picture and sent it to him asking what it was (meaning water or oil base) and how do we dispose of it. Well, he exploded and here is exactly what transpired in our texting conversation:
Me sending him a picture of the full pan of oil appearing paint in the garden: ' What type of paint is this that was left in the front garden?
Matt: Looks like the deck stain pan
Me: No kidding
Matt: "Wow of all things this is what your worried about? Sounds to me you ve got bigger problems"
Me: How are we supposed to properly dispose of it. Paint stir stick was thrown in the garden and there are about a 100 staples left on the deck. And I don't appreciate your attitude
Matt: I done (his spellings btw, not mine) appreciate all of the crazy nitpicking either. With all of the work that was done, your tone implying that we just broke outlet covers and tossed them carelessly to stashing stain and stirs sticks like it was done on purpose is pretty infuriating. If you would talk to people like human beings and not sarcastically ad simply mentioned these issues and asked me to come back I would have gladly done so but not with your rude unappreciative attitude.
Me: And you were more than fairly paid for the work that was done. Shame on you for treating a customer this way. I never once implied it was on purpose but an oversight. And you never once offered to come back for anything. I'm stunned someone that is supposed to be a professional is behaving this way
Matt: Take care
This was one of the most unexpected and rude responses from a company owner that I have ever had. The cracked electrical plates were addressed and done ( I kept screen shots of all conversations). We were blown away by his rudeness and off the wall comments.
He never offered to come by the house and do a final walk through together as all the other contractors have done. When the job was done I was in the hospital and he wanted to meet my husband for the check. I said I would like to see the work and I will be out of the hospital a couple of days later. He never once offered to come and discuss anything but he didn't have a problem with cashing the checks right away. Also the final payment was odd. He insisted on having the check written to him personally and not to Sanchez Painting (as the initial payment was). He said he was having "accountant issues".
In any case, I'm sure he would have not behaved like this with a man or someone younger. He is unprofessional, does not stand by his work in terms of cleaning up and has an unpredictable personality. I would never recommend him to anyone I know. For that amount of money there are plenty of good, honest polite people in business in the area.
Highly recommend their painting work
