Ben (the owner) came out & provided us with an estimate. We were clear on what we wanted done & he seemed to understand. Providing us with an estimate outlining the work, we okayed for the job to be done. He said it would take at least 1 1/2 days. Two guys came out early to do the work. I went over AGAIN what we wanted done because I had to leave for the day. Ben wanted the job done in 1 day, so the guys hurried through & did a terrible job on the weeding!! I called & spoke to the receptionist, & she gave the message to Ben. They sent out another guy who weeded a tiny bit in the front yard & that was it! I then get a bill for the second guy coming out! Responding to an e-mal I sent, the receptionist said it was her mistake & we didn't have to pay. I once again told her that weeds were coming up everywhere through the mulch & got no response from Ben the owner. I am STILL pulling up weeds!! The company had my credit card on file or I would never have paid them for a half-assed job! I had many neighbors & friends interested in having yard work done & I'm putting the word out not to use this company. Their lack of professionalism & customer service should be an embarrassment to them. Ben, you should be ashamed of yourself!

I could not be happier with park view lawn mowing, edging and blowing. Our yard is now the envy of the neighborhood!! Best decision ever to sign up for their service! Now that I know the level of quality they deliver, I may have to look for additional work for them to do!

With full disclosure, our yard needed some serious love. A bunch of weeds, moss and extra grasses in front, lots of additional grasses in back on the perimeter of our lawn. The "deal" on Angie's List was for two people to work 4 hours each for $540, plus additional tax. Verbatim, it says "Valid for leaf and debris pick-up and disposal, shrub and tree trimming, weeding, mowing, and other yard clean-up services. Most debris can be removed in 1 trip, additional charges may apply if extra trips are needed. Include haul away of up to 4 cubic yards of debris - larger amounts of debris will require additional fee or will be left at property for regular pick-up." While the two guys had their work cut out for them, they did a fine job of getting the weeds out of our front daffodil bed, as well as the moss and weeds in surrounding areas in the front, but left quite a bit of random patches of grass, especially in our gravel bed. They also mowed the front and back lawns, and edged most of the front. They arrived at 8:45, but I do not know exactly what time they left, though I'm hoping it was 12:45. As far as "constructive criticism" goes, I was met with the initial comment of (I'm paraphrasing), "I know the instructions said 'debris removal', but that's not something we do, and it would be an extra charge for that. Not remembering immediately what the Angie's List listing said, I went along with what he offered, but found out later that they guys were not aware that they were to remove debris as needed. Either way, I told him he could use our nearly-empty (large) yard waste bin, and anything that didn't fit, they were welcome to put in a pile and I would remove myself. When I arrived home, I found that not only had they knocked over our yard waste receptacle (evident by the broccoli stems, tomatoes, watermelon and strawberries), they completely failed to put back in what fell out (?!?!). Additionally, the aforementioned fruit/vegetable remains were left in one of FOUR piles of debris they left in and around the front of our house, with an exactly half-full yard waste container that could've easily fit the piles they left. As I mentioned, they edged the front lawn (both the main part and the strip of grass along the edge of the curb), but did not edge the back or along the strip on the other side of the driveway. The excess grasses on the periphery of our back lawn were weed-whacked, but the remnants were just left there and not picked up or tidied. I e-mailed Parkview after arriving home to the piles, asking if my expectations were too lofty, as it seemed odd to have such a lack of tidiness for a "completed" job. About 2 hours after e-mailing them, I received an e-mail from Benjamin, the owner. I called him awhile later, and arranged to have someone come out the next day to finish the edging, clean up the piles, and do a little more work on the back yard. The guy that came out to finish the work was extremely personable, and eager to fix the issues. He cleaned up two of the flower beds in back, as well as the aforementioned things that needed completing. This is my first time using Angie's List, let alone Parkview Landscaping. The folks on the e-mailing side of things were punctual, and the two workers arrived at what I believe was a great time to begin work. The second guy that arrived was great, and I appreciated Benjamin responding to my e-mail, and being so willing to complete the things for which I asked. Aside from that, in no way would I ever equate the work done to the nearly $600 I paid for this service. I'm self-aware enough to know what needed to be done to our yard, and I am EXTREMELY grateful for the positive parts, but to leave four piles of debris, and an ultimate feeling that the job was incomplete, I couldn't justify paying them $70+ per hour again for the results I received. Prior to the service, I was asked what services I would like performed, so I requested weeding, edging, debris removal, bark-laying (time permitting) and visqueen installation (time permitting). In retrospect, it would have been better to have someone come out to look at our yard and tell me what they realistically could complete in the amount of time for which I paid, rather than me having a certain level of expectation that wasn't completely met. I think the thing that bothers me the most (in the land of first-world problems) is that the guys who initially completed the work contacted Benjamin when they left to let him know they ran out of time, yet it took an e-mail from me to actually have the work completed. For clarification's sake, here is my reasoning for each of the grades I gave: OVERALL: "C" - I gave this because what I arrived home to was not even close to being worth $70 per hour per person PRICE: "D" - I gave this because, though a lot of work was performed, to arrive home to a very sloppy result was not worth it at all QUALITY: "C" The AMOUNT of work they did is very much appreciated. However, I don't think it should have been up to me to contact them to fix the incomplete job, especially when they knew it wasn't finished, so the QUALITY was not great RESPONSIVENESS: "A" They were very responsive in all forms of communication PUNCTUALITY: "A" They arrived both times at very reasonable hours on the days they were scheduled PROFESSIONALISM: "B" I was taken aback by the initial conversation of "here's what we don't do" and "we probably won't get to this...", but overall the people with whom I communicated seemed pretty professional.
Response from Parkview Landscaping
"Hi [Member Name Removed], I believe this discrepancy had been resolved as fast as it could with our return the next business day. We provided and extra 2 hours of labor in addition to the 8 already performed and took care of the debris. We accomplished as much as possible within the 8 hours. Since there was more work than what could be done within the 8 hours, the strategy was to get as much volume of work that could get done as possible to maximize your value. The assessments of the actual breakdown of the rate is not quite as you have summarized. It is more like $400 towards the labor and $140 towards debris haul away plus sales tax. I trust that the value of the service was addressed with the additional work performed and debris removal. Usually for all jobs that are not pre-purchased on Angie's List, we visit the site with any customer to bid the job and review the scope of work for completion. We have usually done this as well for the Angie's List pre-purchased jobs of 20+ hours since they are larger projects and any others that request it. Going forward, it appears that we will prefer to bid the work by the job or, if some service is pre-purchased, always initiate a walkthrough before the service date. Best regards, Benjamin"

They're good. They did a good job and I enjoyed working with them. In fact, there was some question about how much time the workers put in, and I thought they had overcharged me. So I talked to them about it and they couldn't prove that it was accurate so they accorded the lesser charge. They didn't charge me the higher amount. I was real pleased with them.

There was tax included which was almost $200. I didn't expect that, otherwise they stuck with the price that was offered on Angie's List deal.

There were 2 people for a couple of days, and then the follow up, 1 fellow. They worked really fast and did a good job. They were very efficient. I would use again, in fact I plan to use them again. I paid for several hours and they worked the total amount of hours. I think I paid for 40 hours of work and so they worked for 40 hours and they actually got everything done and more.

Benjamin worked closely with us to help us design a solution for our backyard that would meet our design ideas and budget. We went through several work-ups and he was patient with our often indecisive nature. Once we settled on a proposal, I was very confident that we were getting a well designed and cost-effective landscaping project. The team who performed the installation and landscaping was very friendly and respectful. I worked from home several days while they were working and I barely noticed they were there. When changes arose or we had questions they were very easy to talk to and we quickly came to a resolution. The final result is beautiful and just what we wanted. Benjamin's vision turned out to be the perfect solution to our mud pit of a lawn. I would definitely recommend this company and hire them again for our regular barking, landscaping, lawn-care needs.

Overall I'm quite happy with the landscape project they completed for us. A little pricey (I would give a B grade for price--however, they were lower than other bids. Just a lot of money for what we had done. But, that being said we didn't want to do it ourselves, so ya' gotta pay!) and sometimes communications could've been better. Overall we like how things turned out and we stayed within our desired budget, which was huge! It was done in a timely and efficient manner. One thing that they could have improved on (and I'm nit-picking here) was to remove all weeds/etc popping up through the bark. I went out later to look at the job and there were a few random twigs and a small blackberry start poking up through the bark they laid down. I ended up pulling them, but it only would've taken them a 2nd to do it, and for what we paid them I expected such. We were out of town for the completion of the project, but it got done nonetheless with little effort on our part. It was nice to not have to babysit or constantly call to get the project completed. The communication was great with the actual owner and crew--a little more material had to be ordered in the end, and they promptly got authorization from me and got it finished. Another thing I really liked was their willingness to work with our budget. On the estimate I could go in and tweak things to bring the cost down and accommodate the budget we were trying to work in. This is a GREAT feature and really helpful for the homeowner IMO. The main thing I think they need to work out is their office staff really "knowing" the business. This was the only issue I encountered, was getting an invoice for my records. An email wasn't answered and I had to call; that being said, once I spoke with her on the phone she got me the invoice quickly. However, there was a fair amount of confusion on her part which I think more experience and training could easily remedy.

The yard looks fantastic! Work included weeding and raking of both front and back yard flower beds (1/4 acre-ish sized lot), trimming several trees and or large bushes, 5 yards of bark installation in front yard only and haul away of debris.

Great job all around -especially pleased with the pruning of our trees and rhododendrons. When it came to spreading soil, the beds were thoroughly prepared and the right mix of soil was spread. Tell the team just what you have in mind and they'll deliver. We appreciate the willingness of Parkview Landscaping to "make it right."

It went very well. The best part was that Benjamin is very knowledgeable about plants, locations, etc., so he provided excellent info about landscaping ideas. His employees did a great job - probably the best I've had in a long time. They didn't rush through the job, took the time to make it all look nice, and listened to what I wanted. And they actually clean up! Prices are very reasonable. Would recommend them any time!

From the start, they returned my initial call within an hour.,That alone impressed me. Then Benjamin, the owner of Parkview came the next day to discuss our landscaping project. He listened to our ideas, added a few of his own and came up with a reasonable estimate right then and there. We set a date and a time and the crew was very punctual. Another impressive move and no work had begun yet. From start to finish they transformed our property from overgrown to eye candy. We highly recommend Parkview and will be using them again in the spring.
