Residential Roof Consultants just saved me $12,000. I had a roof inspection done by a contractor that recommended a complete tearoff and replacement for $12,000 + tax. And lucky me, they happened to have a cancellation for the following week so could fit me into their schedule to do the work. My roof was installed 7 years ago by a different contractor who used 30-year CertainTeed shingles. It's a second layer. The reason I had the inspection was that the person who removed moss from my roof had questions about the effect of the moss on some of my shingles. I contacted CertainTeed's corporate office to verify the information I had been told by the contractor. CertainTeed contacted one of their trusted certified roofing companies on my behalf for a roof inspection. And that company referred me to Residential Roof Consultants, saying (rightly) that it would be a conflict of interest for them to inspect a roof since they install them. (If a roofing company agrees to do an inspection, that's a major red flag.) Residential Roof Consultants inspected my roof yesterday. They provide completely independent, objective roof inspections. Their comprehensive findings were completely different from the construction company that told me that my roof needed to be replaced. I was told by Residential Roof Consultants that my roof has a couple of issues they recommend I address, at an estimated cost of less than $1,000, and once completed, my roof should hold up for up to seven more years. None of the issues that construction company used to justify an immediate tearoff and replacement held up to Residential Roof Consultants objective inspection. I highly recommend Residential Roof Consultants for a comprehensive, fully objective, and independent roof inspection. The owner (Jay) can recommend roofing companies and evaluate bids to help wade through the confusing and seemingly disparate information in each of the bids. This is the first time I've felt confident in knowing what work my roof actually needs AND when the time comes, in knowing how to select the right roofing company and the right roof.

Inspector confirmed I didn't need my roof replaced for several years, saving me over $15,000.

There was nothing extra. It was fine. They actually went in to quite a bit of detail. They gave me quite a bit of additional information.

I know nothing about roofs, and I live in a house with a cedar shake roof.  I have lived in my house for about 10 years, and knew I should be taking care of my roof, but I didn't know what I should and should not be doing to maintain the roof.  I can do many things around the house myself, so I just wanted to hire someone to come to my house, and without trying to sell me something, teach me what I needed to know about maintaining my roof to help it last as long as possible.   
I searched Angielist and found Residential Roof Consultants.  Jay was exactly the kind of professional I was looking for.  He worked for a roofing company for 17 years and has a wide range of experience with different kinds of roofing materials and systems.  He is extremely knowledgeable about roofs, and was able to share his expertise with me.
Jay responded to my inquiry about his services via email quickly, and we were able to set up an appointment at my house the following weekend.  
Jay came to my house on time, and was an excellent teacher.  Jay understood exactly what I was interested in learning, and was able to teach me about my roof and what I needed to do to maintain it.  He taught me some technical things about cedar shake roofs and the way they are built, which helped me understand why he was recommending the maintenance steps he was suggesting.  He was also able to use some of the roofs on my neighbors' houses to explain various roofing materials, and what I might want to think about in terms of roofing materials the next time I needed a roof.  I was impressed with his knowledge and his ability to teach me what I needed to know.  I felt like he really wanted to help me learn and I felt comfortable asking him questions.  After the visit, Jay followed up with me via email and summarized the items we had talked about, and the recommendations he outlined for me.
Overall, working with Jay was a great experience.  He was professional and knowledgeable, and knowing he was not trying to sell me something, I was very comfortable working with him and taking his advice.  
I have already been up on the roof to implement his recommendations, which I am hoping will keep my roof healthy as long as possible.

I am acting as the general contractor on the construction of my new house. I know several roofers who wanted the job, but I was not entirely sure what type of roof I wanted and how to decide which roofer to choose. I called Jay to advise me about the benefits

Having an independant third party evaluate the roof and develop a new roof plan made it easy to get similar estimates and reduced contactor cross talk. By the time we got estimates, we knoew what we wanted and how much it should cost. We saved money.
