Kory was always prompt, dressed professionally and he seems like a nice guy. He seemed very competent when installing the timers and the GFI so I assumed that he was competent for the rest of the work. He charged us $250 plus tax for diagnosis of the short. Here is where the issues started. He claimed that there were two shorts. We thought that was very coincidental and odd but he insisted that one short could cause vibration on the wire to create another short. He said that we had to get a new line out to the exterior post lights and that he would come back with materials to do just that but he was going to try to find the existing line. He scheduled us for the following week and the work was to be about $1000 + tax which seemed excessive but he said that if it wasn't too hard to find the problem, he would consider less. We agreed because we thought that it would involve a lot of work, including digging a trench to get the line to the post, etc. The bottom line is that he mis-diagnosed everything so he cut the live line that we needed for the one exterior light that didn't have a short (which he thought did) and then he took that line and cut a hole in the side of our house and took it outside. The hole is a big ugly repair up the side of our house and he said it wouldn't be noticeable. While he was looking for the lines he cut wholes in the drywall in two different rooms and he made such a mess that the large pieces of drywall had to be thrown away because they crumbed. It looked like someone crazy with a chainsaw cut the walls in one room. The other room ended up with 8 holes. The room that was the worst has an entire corner missing. He then couldn't find a way to fish the line through the post so he installed the stupidest looking piece to the top of the light fixture. Now he was able to get power to most of the lights but not the one that he said had the second short but he had really just cut the line to it. He left us with a lot of damage, an ugly implemented solution on the exterior post and the exterior of the house and a light that wouldn't work. I am only giving him a D because he did well with the timers. He then charged us the full amount.
We have hired a new electrician to get back power to the light that Kory cut and he has a better solution to go to the juncture box in the crawlspace to fix the second part and we will ultimately get it all back and remove the ugly stupid solutions. It is costing us a lot. After that we have a lot of damage to repair, it is more than simple wall doctor repairs.
Our summary is that Kory is inexperienced and he works alone so he doesn't have expertise to draw on. We think that for a simple electrical problem he does fine but for a more complicated diagnosis we would never use him again and for any work that you need to cut through walls we would never use him. We an not stress enough the high costs to us and the amount of work that is due to his lack of understanding of the problem and a lack of effective ideas/solutions on how to get power out without generating big ugly permanent solutions.
The whole installation process went well, the estimate was fair, and later discussion improved the details of the generator system to be installed. The technicians who installed the system were pleasant, professional and efficient. Their advice during the installation was professional and showed clearly that they understood how their product would improve the comfort level in our home.
