This project was performed on a time and materials basis. Neil charges $100/hour, but he works with one other worker (Ken), so I thought the project would go a little faster than it did. They did complete the work that I asked of them and it is serviceable. However, I have several complaints that would prevent me from every working with them again: ***Complaints*** The cabinets that Neil ordered did not fill the space that I needed filled. This was crucial because the back of the middle cabinet had to be left open, and had to abut the wall behind it. The reason is that there is a crawl space access behind the cabinet. I need to be able to pull the shelves out and crawl through the cabinet to get into that space. The way it is now, there is a gap of 5" between the back of the wall and the cabinet. If the back of the cabinet is left off (or the part where the crawlspace door is, things on the shelf would fall behind the cabinet. There is a work around for this, but it is a bad one. Moreover, I lost 30% of the volume of the cabinet that I could have had if it was built correctly. I thought I was clear with Neil about my needs, but apparently he didn't get it. After I found out that the cabinets Neil ordered were stock 12", I told Neil of the problem. He was surprised and thought that I wouldn't have wanted to pay the money for custom cabinets. I had them install them anyway, knowing that I was going to have to eventually replace the cabinets. I'm losing about $1000 on this fiasco. I should also note that it took them 3 hours to deliver and install the cabinets. This was a simple job that *I* could have done by myself in as much time. The walls of the closet were not square. The side walls diverged from each about 3/4" in a run of 20"--way off. I can chalk up the cabinet problem mentioned about to bad communication, but I really can't understand how an experienced carpenter could mess up so badly on the measurements.
Description of Work: 1. Extended kitchen floor (main floor) in space in the lower floor by approximately 18". Installed cabinets in the wall space created below the floor that was added. 2. Removed and rebuilt a closet.
