The installer did a great job of laying the floor; did not do such a
good job on the finish work and put transitions in the bedroom doorways
where the flooring was carried into the rooms. Do not feel transition
pieces were needed. Have seen other flooring done and there were no
transitions put in. The installer came around nine in the morning and
did not leave until 9:00 pm the first night and around 10 the next two
nights. He had to finish the job in three days as he was scheduled to
be at another job the next day. We were not told that the installer
would be here until late in the evening. We had to clean up the sawdust
from the ripping out of the kitchen floor and installing the new floor.
The installer was going to clean and move the furniture back when he finished at 10 pm the last night; we declined as he would have been here until midnight. There
was damage done to the flooring when the installer put in the molding
pieces around the entry way tile. Contacted Dmitri and he said he would
come out and repair it -- never came. They did come and haul away the
overage that was ordered and not used and did credit us the amount. We
feel that by the time the installer was putting in the finish molding
that he was so tired or he is just not experienced with it that he did
not do a very professional job on that part. Otherwise he was very
pleasant and hard working. I just don't like people staying so late and
we feel that Dmitri or whoever scheduled the installer did not give him
enough time to do the work. I feel that we should have been informed that the installer was going to be so late in the night; especially given that I was unable to use my kitchen the first night. That would have been nice to know.
On installation took two days and was completed on time and on budget.
Dmitiry came out and gave a quote for installation of laminate flooring in about 900 square feet. Magic Hardwood was highly recommended by Lumber Liquidators, and we were able to negotiate their installation fees down quite a bit, which pushed us to go with them, despite being slightly more expensive than other quotes.
The initial installation took about 3 days, and seemed to go fine, although they did not leave any of the left over materials besides one small jar of floor paint/putty and a few tubes of adhesive. Once they were done we noticed a few issues. 1st was that the finish nails on some of the trim were exposed and sticking up, we have a crawling baby so needed this fixed ASAP. 2nd issue was that we could no longer open half of our double front door, and the other half required a considerable amount of force to close. 3rd was that trim was not installed at all at the top of the stairs, and 4th was that a large piece of sticker was left on a piece of trim in the dining room (which we thought we could remove ourselves with no issue). We contacted Dmitiry and scheduled a time for an installer to come out and fix the issues. Minutes before the scheduled appointment, Dmitiry emailed to cancel. Since the cancellation was over email, we did not see it until later in the day and spent several hours at home waiting for him to show up. Once the appointment was rescheduled, the nail and missing trim was taken care of right away, and the door was shaved down so it no longer took force to close - but the other side still could not be used, and the clearance under the door was so small we could not use any rug. When the installer was here, he admitted that he knew there were issues with the door but did not do anything to address them at the time of the original installation.
After a few weeks we finally got around to peeling off the sticker on the trim mentioned above, and realized that the sticker was covering a large piece of missing wood grain finish on the trim. It appeared that when the trim was installed, the installers left the sticker to cover the missing piece since the sticker was very easy to remove. At this time we also decided that we really couldn't find any rug to use on the landing, and that we will need both sides of the door at some point so we emailed Magic Hardwood again to fix the issues.
It took TWENTY DAYS and multiple emails just to get a confirmation that someone could come look at the issue again, and after it was looked at, another two weeks and a follow up email to get someone to fix it. Dmitiry came out to look at the issue himself and it was agreed that the laminate on the landing would be removed, the flooring beneath taken out, and the laminate re-installed - we were told at the time of the estimate that the current flooring on the landing would be removed, but that didn't happen. When the installer came out to do the work, he said that removing and re-installing the flooring would be too much work and instead just further shaved down the door. At that point we were so sick of dealing with them that we decided to just drop the issue and move on.
Communication was easy, via cell, text or email there was always a response quickly.
We would definitely use them again and recommend to family and friends.
1. the price is cheap and very competitive with may other companies.
2. work is done perfectly the way you want.
3. keeping the house absolutely clean.
4. very honest....nothing was missing from the house.
5. willing to help to put the furniture back.
6. work is done on time as promised.
7. my floor is beautiful....I am very happy.
Owner tried everything possible to get me to pay entire amount but I refused and told him I wanted island fixed right and I would use the cabinet company who built the island for repairs. That ordeal finally finished and I paid all but $150.00 (I should have held out more). Over the next day or two I noticed a lot of bulges in bamboo flooring which I assume were caused by a failure to prepare surface. I also had to move island back to where it was because he was done with the job. I would never use this company again. The floor looks beautiful except for numerous bulges in floor.
