Affordable Furnace Repair

He showed up on time and was very friendly and professional.  He serviced my very old furnace and didn't pressure me to buy a new one.

We contacted Don Blundell at Affordable Furnace Repair on the recommendation of a friend and after reviewing their website. He initially came to inspect our heater as a new addition to our house had very poor airflow and was always colder than the rest of the house. After an inspection and a little cleaning of the heater unit, he was able to give me his opinion on the installation of the unit and its appropriateness for the house (we have owned the house for only 1 year so I wanted to know if this was a good unit and if it was installed well and the appropriate size/strength for the house). He took the time to walk me through his analysis and informed me that the unit we had was an excellent unit, installed well, and even advised me that it should take less maintenance than other more inferior units (i.e. no up-selling of unnecessary work).
He then inspected the non-functioning air duct and discussed several issues (most of which I was already aware of from our home inspection a year earlier). He quoted me a repair price and returned a week later with a partner to fix the duct. He even came later on a Friday afternoon to accommodate my work schedule. They repaired the shoddy work done before and added a new duct the way it should have been done in the first place. They not only improved airflow to the malfunctioning duct, but improved airflow to another duct I didn't realize was under performing.
My only issue was the he showed up 90 minutes into the 2 hour arrival window I was given, but both times he was courteous upon arrival, explained everything he was going to do before he did it, answered my questions, and even took the time to educate me on the issues he found. Overall, it was a great experience and I would hire him again in a second. Incidentally, he was also priced lower than some of the several other quotes I got from some of the larger local HVAC firms that has lower reviews on Yelp and Angie's list.

Don arrived within the time he said he would and got straight to work. After about 10 minutes of troubleshooting he was unable to recreate the issue. However, his equipment was consistently showing that the furnace was operating safely so we decided that the problem must have been some freak occurrence. When I asked what I owed him for his time (he did drive from Ballard to Woodinville at 5pm on a Friday after all) he told me that the visit was on the house. With any luck I won't have to call often, but next time I have a problem with my furnace or AC, Affordable Furnace Repair will be the first folks I call.

I had an appointment from 10-12 with Affordable Furnace Repair. Don arrived around 12:15 and quickly diagnosed the problem with my electric furnace. His company charges a standard $50 to diagnose plus tax. He wanted $250 in addition to the diagnosis fee to fix the broken part in my furnace ($300 + tax total) and ran out to his truck to get the part. When he came back from his truck, I declined the repair and decided to try and fix it myself. It took two days for me to find the part, but in the end, it only cost $30 and took about 15-20 minutes to fix once I got home. Don's diagnosis was accurate and the problem is solved. My furnace is 25 years old and made by a company no longer in business. He did not try to sell me anything or scare me into buying a new furnace when I turned down the repair.
