I removed the surface of the old deck as a cost saving measure prior to the contractor's arrival, leaving the existing framing. Two day job for contractor, with a few hours on a third day to install railings. Railings were custom fit, measured and ordered after the new deck was laid down. Contractor re-leveled existing framing, adding material as needed to support weight of new Trex decking and the railings that were replacing the existing built in benches. Contractor suggested changes during construction that we accepted, improving the appearance of the deck. Only issue that came up during construction was resolved by a discussion of options and some off-site work by the contractor at no extra cost. We are very pleased with the finished product. The new deck is as good as or better than I had imagined.
