Heat Pump - Install or Replace
I would not recommend. At all. For 4 months we have been fighting with the owner to rectify our inept install. It all began with the salesman who over promised and under delivered. Then the main installation person was in a huge hurry and left behind many unbelievably careless mistakes and we are still finding more. One is even a fire risk. I could go on and on. My husband is an electrical engineer and is fixing them as he discovers them. However, the worst, we do not have the outside heat pump that our huge house requires, they simply installed the lower level unit they happened to have on hand. Dishonest! The owner is attempting to manipulate us to just walk away. He is pushing us to the limit when he should simply admit his employees screwed us over, make it right, and then we will go away. My husband is a pit bull and he isn?t going away. The fight goes on.

Dont buy a generator! Their workers are very nice to talk to & they are responsive. But, I was misled re what the it can do, not informed about gas, & the wait to get it installed was 2 1/2 months! "Bryan" told me several times when I was considering buying it, it would take care of the trips on freezing nights to connect/disconnect the heating tape for my pipes. They still have to be connected. He told me repeatedly that I could run the generator with just the flip of 1 switch. There are numerous that have to be flipped, inside and out. I was also not told about managing the unit through the night while sleeping (I mostly lose power after dark/bedtime so it will run through the night. When "Shelby" was here for the final directions on the unit, he didnt tell me where/how to fill it with gas. I had to call in to find the answers to these concerns. "Tony" was really good initially in fielding them. But hung up quickly when he found the generator couldnt do what was needed .

We had issues with a breaker box in one of our houses, and have had other miscellaneous minor electrical issues. Renaud has always provided fast, professional service at a very reasonable price.

I can't recommend this business. Apart from the office staff either not talking to each other or being thoroughly confused, the work that was done for me wasn't great. 1. The electrician who came out to install a new outlet for my garbage disposal broke the baseboard under my dishwasher. 2.The VP of Renaud offered to discount my invoice, which I accepted. 3. Problems and misunderstandings then happened regarding the amount of the discount. This required numerous emails and phone calls. 4. Once the amount was agreed on, I sent a check. It wasn't cashed for over a month and I didn't know that the check wasn't at Renaud until I got a "past due" bill. 5. I called the next day and told them that if they got the check (I even gave them the check number) not to cash it because I was sending them a second check. 6. Guess what? They cashed it anyway. They received the second check but didn't tell me that they were going to send it back to me until I called the office AGAIN. 6.More phone calls. When I physically went to their office to pick up the second check, they had no idea where it was. A manager finally found it on a desk somewhere. 7.I wrote to the VP to explain my unhappiness with the service and communication and have not heard back from him. The only thing that went right was the installation of the garbage disposal outlet.

"We do understand this customer's frustration. We did all we could do to test the outlet, and while we found nothing wrong with the outlet, until the sump pump acted up we could not be sure. Replacing the outlet and bubble cover was a lot less expensive than sending an electrician back. So as a matter of company policy we will replace a $20 GFI outlet while we are at the home when there are questions or concerns. There was no added labor since everything was done within the hour minimum that we charge for the call. It was a lot less expensive than to have another service call."

"Customer called because she had no AC from her heat pump system. Our tech found the source of the problem was bad wiring and wrong thermostat. The customer had been sold the wrong thermostat by the big box store. The tech fixed the thermostat wiring and installed the new thermostat provided by the customer with a caveat that the thermostat needed to be replaced before winter. The thermostat was not a heat pump thermostat and did not provide for emergency heat. Emergency heat is needed when outside temperatures are extremely cold and/or the heat pump fails. We charged a diagnostic at a reduced rate, $99 instead of $109 for that area. We charged $175 for installing the thermostat provided. We did a wire repair which we did not charge for and a complete check of her system which we did not charge for. This complete system check is a maintenance service. She was a new home owner and the system had not been checked since she bought the home. Our invoice was $274.00 plus tax. Customer was provided a service invoice with this information and itemized pricing for work charged."

The team of 4 people were on time, they were friendly, polite, efficient.   Everything went fast, and they cleaned up everything when the job was completed.   They took the time to show me how the system worked and answered all my questions.
I would have a heat pump again in a heartbeat, it's wonderful !!  And I would only trust RENAUD.  Don't go elsewhere!!

Was very pleased with the efficiency of the work done. Had a few questions and the sales rep snapped a photo of the area of concern and had a response within minutes. Price was competitive with Costco estimate.

Now to the basement: I would operate various woodworking power tools (planer, chop saw, etc.) with no problem, but noticed with the new box that I kept tripping breakers. I called them and spoke with their electrician, who sent a fellow out to check out stuff. He suggested that the new breakers (Square D) are more and quot;sensitiveand quot; than the old breakers. That is, a breaker rated at 20 amps could actually carry a load of 22 or so amps. Not so with the new ones. A 15 amp motor may only draw 10 amps when running but require a full draw at startup. If I have other things on the circuit, breakers trip. Solved that problem by rewiring, and will do so with more circuits. The breaker box in the basement was a great addition, and that rates a big plus for them. But that darn heat pump location still galls me.
The whole system is quiet and efficient, joints were sealed tight. However, in hindsight, and here's where I downgraded them, I would have pressed more for their own recommendations about air supply location. They did present a floor diagram showing recommended locations, which was ok but not entirely satisfactory. To their credit however, this is an old house (circa 1920's) so there are limitations. However, the heat pump siting still gives me a negative feeling about them. They asked me where it should go -- I wish I would have prodded them for a suggestion, or insisted on a different spot and let them worry about running tubing, etc. The reason I complain about the location is because it sits immediately under the dining room window, and the sucker is huge. I suggested a relocation, for which they would charge me $300. So now there it sits.
I'm not a professional HVAC person and don't know that much about it. Why should it be up to me? They are the ones who should give constant guidance and suggestions (I believe the term is handholding).. Is Trane a better system than any other one out there? I can't answer that, nor is that what this review is intended to cover. To their credit, I did request 4 quotes for systems including Trane, Carrier, and one other. Renaud was the only one who recommended a breaker box upgrade (around $2K if memory serves me correctly), and I needed/wanted it done anyway. Nordstroms has a great reputation for customer service. I think a lot of businesses could learn from them. If I was an HVAC installer, I would call the customer after a month or two and ask how the system is working, any problems, questions, etc. Not a word from Renaud.

The first thing I need to say is service is NOT about just the repair; it's about how the company reacts when things don't go right. Renaud came out same day, put in the motor (which was bad), did some internal maintenance (not sure how badly it was needed) asked to do more maintenance (which I declined) but FAILED to check to see the heat strips come on! We didn't notice until that evening, I called their office, they sent a tech at no charge. He diagnosed a zoning problem, said it would need a board. Very disappointing. I spoke with the manager the next business day. He personally handled the situation, sending another tech who looked over the wiring, repaired some connections to the zoning board, and it appears to be fixed, still working great. I think they will bill me for another service call, adding $100 to the price, but their responsiveness and personal follow through were outstanding. This comes from someone who owns a large repair company himself.
