Okay up to the point that my contractor and an electrician who were working there that day setting up temporary electrical informed me that they were done in 90 minutes. I had already paid $2300 for testing, and I questioned Specialty about paying the full amount of $4400 more for removal. Total removed material was 1/2 yard. Manuel, who did the estimate, was responsive but freely admitted he had no authority to reduce the bill. He never called me back, but did answer when I called him several days later. He said they were sticking with estimate. He disputes my worker's claims that his guys were only there 90 minutes. Says they "left and came back later". Seems unlikely given it's a remote location-about 30 minutes to nearest gas station/store, and they couldn't tell me why they would have needed to leave anyway. The cabin was empty and being prepared for demolition, so no concern for damaging anything, or protecting inhabitants. Nobody else ever called me back. The owner sent one email response to my concerns, then they completely ghosted me. I had asbestos removed from our daughter's bedroom in Portland, while living in house, and asbestos was in sheetrock coating throughout the entire room. That total cost was $1100. Specialty got six times that for a job that took a third as long, with no concern for people living in house or anywhere near. If you want to roll the dice with Specialty, make sure you get other bids for testing and removal-unless you like to overpay. My bad for not doing that, but given I live six hours away, I just went with their "estimate" (doesn't say bid), and thought they would operate in good faith.
