Why did we chose a business name like The Tranquil Computer? Think about the one thing that we all would like from our computer: That it should have no problems and it should "just work." But what do we usually experience? Generally it's the opposite of tranquility, we are ready to heave the hunk of junk into the yard! That simply does not need to be so, you really can live peacefully with your computer. You can have what you want from your computer. You do not need to suffer through long monologues of technical jargon and acronyms until your eyes glaze over. We will help you find what you want and will speak to you in a language that you will understand. We work with PC and Apple, Microsoft Windows and MacOS. We also work in Linux. Our experience with computers began when personal computers first began to emerge in the mid-80s. Once the site was nearly done things began to go sideways. Gail seemed to lose interest, didn't follow through on wrapping up some loose ends and has failed to show up for two telephone meetings. I had described, up front, what I wanted the site to do, the look I had in mind and that I wanted it very simple to maintain. Gail neglected to disclose that, I wouldn't, in fact, be able to maintain my own site. I now learn that I must pay her $60 an hour for maintenance; this is, she tells me, because the templates she uses are 'breakable' and she must retain control. I'm now looking into recreating the site either on my own or with another designer because, as I write this report I'm literally locked out of the site. Apparently in doing some maintenance last Friday she changed my access. I've been trying to reach her since Friday; she has yet to call me back or fix the access issue.
Description of Work: I engaged Gail to design a web site for my business after seeing one she'd done for someone else (which I liked). The design itself went smoothly; it's basically a template. The site has 6 pages, doesn't involve sales and has very streamlined functionality. Pretty basic and I was happy with the time it took and the cost.

How interesting! I am just coming to Angie's List and saw this. I have a signed contract that states that the estimated work was completed but that the client refused maintenance for not wishing to pay for it. The contract clearly states that maintenance is not free, it also clearly stated exactly what work would be done and that any changes to it would also need to be paid for. To say that I neglected to disclose that is false, the contract we both signed clearly outlines cost. The site was hand-crafted using HTML and CSS, it was then setup using Dreamweaver and Contribute, a combination that worked for several other clients at the time for them to update their own web sites. This information is also on the contract. Personally, I have never "retained control" of any of the sites I worked on, mostly for this very reason. All passwords and access information was always supplied to the customer at all times and has never been changed without client consent unless they refuse to pay for the work done. Yes, it's likely that I let this site go since I cannot afford to work for free. I have any active web site design work since we moved into our repair shop in 2009. Mostly because of people expecting a lot of work without paying for it.
